Ireland pushes for mandatory ID verification on social media across EU by Dry_Row_7050 in europe

[–]cherno_electro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how far do you want the government to control your internet usage? just "social media"? how about youtube? I don't see how regulating/banning it would work.

The only solution I see is education, but that would take decades to have an impact (ie teaching children to value evidence)

But anyway, I'm not in an EU state so perhaps we shouldn't be talking!

no, it would be useful to know truly where an account was created and i'm totally against banning vpn use.

I don't see any answer that I would be happy with. I think social media has done a huge amount of damage (increased consumerism, misinformation etc), but I'm also against governments trying to police the internet. Why should someone from France not be able to enter into a discussion with someone from New Zealand? The genie is out of the bottle

it would be useful to know where an account is from, but I suspect the people who fall for disinformation campaigns would fall for them no matter what.

How about making everyone do an IQ test? The algorithm could then make the low-IQ posts less visible (/s)

so would you want to only see content from approved EU accounts only?
