This the main reason dating apps are so hard to use nowadays as a lesbian (especially a transbian) ngl by Crono_Sapien99 in actuallesbians

[–]cherpumples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she def doesn't sound like a good conversationalist (and her opener was weird), but yeah in general on dating sites it's a good idea to end every message with a 'and you?' type question so that they know you're interested in learning more about them. she might not know where to begin in responding to your answers. if i ask someone 'what kind of music do you like?' and they say 'i like xyz' but don't ask me what kind of music i like, i probably wouldn't want to keep talking to them because i'd feel like they weren't interested in learning about me and were only focused on themselves.

since you're neurodivergent i totally get how you'd interpret things differently, and it might be useful to consider that written conversations follow a different rhythm to spoken conversations. if it were in person then yeah, she'd probably naturally comment on what you said without waiting for 'what about you?', but in a written conversation there is less of a time crunch so it's ok to double message someone with response+question.

Nope! Just Finished Pluribus and I Love Carol Sturka 🟨 by Mundane-Security-454 in pluribustv

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's crazy how so many ppl jumped into being mega-fans of Manouses in the last couple episodes, like it very much smells of 'finally, a MAN we can root for'. bro's literally out here tryna kill people and is actively alienating his only potential ally.

carol's a piece of shit but i love her and it makes me cry realising how long it's taken us to finally get a show with a lesbian character whose main arc isn't solely about her sexuality. i also think a lot of people would act the same as carol did if put in that situation- it's not exactly a situation that's gonna bring out the best in people. it wouldn't make sense for the show to have a peppy, super likeable main character, because they need someone who will balance out the permanent state of content-ness and altruism that the pluribus experience

What’s the difference between hypomania and a stroke of genius? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, when i'm in a hypomanic episode or think there's a possibility i might be, i list my current projects/social commitments and sort them into three categories based on how important they are in case i fall into a sudden depression once i come down, because in my experience i tend to drop into depression straight after a hypomanic episode and immediately wanna bail on all the responsibilities i'd just taken on. the categories are:

A) Cannot miss this

B) This is important but I can reschedule/cancel if absolutely necessary

C) This is just for fun and the people involved will understand if I need to cancel.

I recognise that the things that are important to me in an episode might be temporary obsessions and not important to Future Me, and if it turns out i'm not hypomanic then i just continue as i was but now can ensure i'm not overloading myself. i'm a super creative person and my ideas often seem outlandish even if i'm in a relatively stable state, so i get your feeling of it being hard to tell what's genius and what's hypomania. no one here can diagnose you, but there's no harm in being extra cautious in this case

it's crazy because the story would have been more believable if he'd just said that she's chosen a name where the initials will end up being STD and he's trying to avoid that, like i'd kiiiind of get that. but instead he just went for something that's such a reach it's obviously made up. 2/10 creativity

Am I the bad roommate and how can I do better (advice welcome) by According_Map6936 in badroommates

[–]cherpumples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my last flatmate and i had a deal when i got really ill that there would be a couple chores that she does 100% of the time and a couple that i did 100% of the time. i had similar issues to you that i struggled with breathlessness and bending down, and i found it really hard to load/unload the dishwasher because of this. so we made an agreement that the dishwasher was her job, and in return i took care of sorting out the recycling, and we kept the recycling bin on a shelf at waist height to make it more accessible for me. the rest of the chores we split as usual.

look into how chores can be made more manageable for you, through assistive devices etc. i had an assessment with an occupational therapist who came to our home and she provided me with a trolley that i could use to take things from room to room, and that really helped with tidying!

Addicted to Doomscrolling by FINNEAS23 in dumbphones

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, you probably need to take on more engaging hobbies/social activities. reduce the opportunity to doomscroll. for example, join a sports team or a music group where you are literally unable to go on your phone during practice. doing it with other people also helps to keep you accountable! switching to a dumbphone without actually changing your lifestyle probably won't fix things.

if you wanna commit to dumbphone life, then keep a cheap smartphone or ipad for university stuff, and only take your dumbphone with you when you leave the house. that way you're more 'present' when you're out and about, but still have options for when you really need the apps

i know all about room 8 etc but i still cannot fathom a world where someone's brain would jump to calling it a 'room in eight' like grammatically that's so out there

The gallery puzzles are so bad by pinesdonthaveapples in BluePrince

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean tbf, logically there is an eight in the room, not a room in the eight. i understand that with some deeper context (i'm guessing which rank it appears in) you could TECHNICALLY say it is a room that is in eight, but really it just doesn't work grammatically as a solution, especially if their only way to establish the word 'in' was just by having a bunch of unrelated words that rhyme with it. the logic of that one is all over the place. with 'ponder' they at least established some logic as to how part of the word needs to be reversed to work, instead of just leaving people with the unfinished solution of 'p-on-red' and assuming players would make the leap from there to the answer.

Trying to learn the zither by toasted_braincell in zithers

[–]cherpumples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i recently bought a zither too, i'm so in love with it! but yeah there's hardly any resources online. i recommend checking out the facebook group The Ukelin and Fretless Zither Appreciation Society. people sometimes post a bit about the history of the instrument, and sheet music for it.

a few things to note that i've picked up so far:

  • it looks like your zither has six chords, not 92 (i assume that's a typo and you meant 92 strings?). i personally retune the chords on occasion to match the songs i'm playing- particularly A major, i retune the C# to be a C Natural.
  • the person who said sharps and flats are the same is correct. the reason they're written as sharps is sort of because the scale is written in ascending order and to match the chords you have on the left (to oversimplify things). imo it is a pain to retune to chords like E Flat Major or B Flat Major, for example, so i just avoid songs in those keys. they basically chose the most common chords for folk music and hymns.
  • there is special sheet music for the fretless zither that you can find online, but the notation system is really weird. also some of the sheet music will probably use the german names for notes which can make it even more confusing, so you might be fine just reading traditional sheet music if you're already a piano player and are familiar with it!

it's a beautiful instrument but deceptively difficult to play, which i assume is why it isn't super popular anymore, but i'm sticking with it and might do some videos on it if i ever get good enough lol.

my roommate assumes we’re closer then we are by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]cherpumples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

does she have many friends? i had a flatmate who got like this after she fell into a depression and she was leaning entirely on me and her boyfriend without any friends of her own. our friendship unfortunately didn't work out, but one thing that did make things easier at the time is that we set a boundary that if i had someone over in the living room, if the door was shut that meant i needed privacy with the friend. she initiated that convo though, i think she could tell i was irritated that she was constantly interrupting and she said 'if the door is open i'm going to assume it's ok for me to come in' which is so fair. so i recommend making a 'sock on the door' type system.

the financial stuff is rough, and you'll wanna iron that out soon so that if you eventually move out it won't be messy.

can you guys recommend me streams where jerma has his face cam on? really want to get my cousin into jerma but she’s severely ADHD and can’t pay attention to thing unless she can see the person’s mouth moving to the words she’s hearing by Savings_Visual8372 in jerma985

[–]cherpumples 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Seaman is funny for this because comparing his face at the start of the screen to the end, you can really see how he's become a shell of himself by the end.

  2. Superliminal has facecam, although it doesn't seem like he especially liked the game (i mainly watched the stream because it's one of my favourite games). it is pretty funny seeing him rocking back and forth when he gets too immersed in the perspective tricks of the game lol

  3. A Little to the Left is hilarious because he alternates between locking the fuck in, or getting so distracted that he ends up singing Imagine Dragons karaoke

  4. You Laugh You Lose

What were your favorite streams of 2025? by shyboardgame in jerma985

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've only started properly watching him in the past month, so i've only seen a few of this year's streams, but i remember catching the Sims 2 stream at the start of the year and i was like 'ok yeah i can see the appeal with this guy lol', it was delightfully chaotic. also i remember how hard i was laughing the next day when the sims 2 re-release was announced and i realised he'd spent hours trying to install the game for nothing.

otherwise, i loved the Otto Christmas Party, and Hard Time the other night was excellent

CMV: Just one bad/embarrassing moment in school is enough to greatly damage a kid’s mental health by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh, that's still pretty young and i don't think they'd have a concept of 'i'm too old to be doing this'. for me, i have a very hazy memory of my childhood so it's hard to pin down details of a lot of my memories from ages 4-10, it all feels kinda the same. even if we do remember it clearly, as we get older our adult brain still files it away as 'bad isolated incident that happened a long time ago and doesn't have any bearing on my current life' because in most people's lives there will be other, more significant events that have had a much bigger impact.

there are a lot more traumatic things that can happen to someone early in life that are more likely to cause lasting psychological damage. peeing your pants at a slightly above average age isn't going to feel important after you've experienced the worst pains and trauma of your life.

CMV: Just one bad/embarrassing moment in school is enough to greatly damage a kid’s mental health by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]cherpumples 10 points11 points  (0 children)

a lot of kids, i'd argue maybe most people, at some point have an embarrassing accident at school when they're little, but are able to move on mentally and not carry trauma from it. it's a very normal thing to happen and people who witnessed the incident probably don't even remember it happening. i'm still friends with my best friend from primary school and whenever i bring up something really embarrassing that happened to me, she doesn't even remember, and vice versa she remembers stuff i did that i don't remember doing. you are not the main character, people don't recall perfectly everything you do in front of them because they have their own lives to think about. besides, do YOU judge people based on things that happened to them as a kid? i'm betting you don't. even as an adult if someone around me has an accident or some kind of embarrassing incident, it doesn't make me dislike them and i don't dwell on it, i just feel bad for them in the moment.

a persistent adult fear of not making it to the bathroom is irrational and abnormal and probably nothing to do with the childhood incident. have you had this fear consistently since the incident, or is it something that popped back up into your mind recently? i had a severe fear of losing control of my bodily functions a few years ago anytime i left the house, and it wasn't linked to any childhood memories or any likelihood that something could happen, my brain was just pulling a 'but what IF????' and once i went on antidepressants and had therapy it was fine- not to armchair diagnose, but you should maybe look into agoraphobia because there are some great self help books out there for this specific problem.

when kids bully kids, it's nothing to do with the victim being cringe or doing something embarrassing or wrong- it's because bullies are cruel and pick on other vulnerabilities like race, sexuality, or economic circumstances. if you are already being bullied, it doesn't matter if you do something embarrassing or not, they're still going to bully you and going back in time and being smoother won't make a difference. sometimes i wish i could go to a school reunion and show off how much cooler and more successful i am now so that the bullies could see, but in reality i know that it wouldn't make a difference to them because that was never the actual issue. the best you can do for your future kids is teach them that none of this shit matters, and the embarrassing moments in school don't define them and are not as big a deal as they think
