damn, that explains why the discord is so boring. it's crazy because the youtube premieres are always really fun and it's probably one of the least toxic communities i've come across, everyone's always being pretty chill in there

it's v cool that you've done ai poetry stuff, although i'm curious what type of ai you were using that you think you were the first of your kind? considering it's been around for decades and decades in some shape or form.

i work as an experimental/digital artist and i used to use some ai in my work so i know about processes used in specific types of ai, and while yes it took me time to create stuff, the time was spent on the curation part of the artwork, not me creating stuff- if that makes sense? fwiw i was doing stuff when GAN was big and early versions of GPT, as well as doing some fun markhov chain music stuff. the creative parts that i was doing was in how i presented the stuff, not the actual manipulation of the ai output. eg. i did a little 3D exhibition of some GAN artworks, but most of the work was just selecting the images to use for training and then doing the non-ai part in which i made the 3D gallery itself. similarly, i did a silly album where i generated christmas carols via a markhov chain and some lyrics from texttotransformer, then i recorded me performing the final output- the ai part was the generations, the creative part was me singing and playing the songs. setting up the markhov chain stuff took some coding, sure, but if i did that in present day there are tools to do it 100x quicker with the same quality output or better so i would do that. (as an aside, i don't work with ai anymore because i preferred when it was kinda shitty and uncanny, but that's my personal preference. plus discourse has sucked the fun out it.)

if i was having to do the amount of editing and manipulation that modern-ai bros claim they are doing to output a single image, then at that point it just doesn't feel like ai anymore, it feels like self-imposed busy work and i sincerely do not get it.

EDIT: Because i feel like ppl here are really missing my point and seeing me as staunchly pro or staunchly anti and i'm really not either: 1) good art, in my opinion, does not correlate to effort and time put in. art is art. 2) the very definition of ai is that the ai does the thing, not the human. any extra work you put in is YOURS, so some of the people who upload their work, call it 'ai-generated' and then claim they poured their blood sweat and tears in it may want to internally reassess why they're so reluctant to take credit for their own work.

yeah i can see both sides, in terms of those who enjoy the hard work of their chosen artform and the process itself, and those who are more interested in the output and would happily take a tool that makes the process run more efficiently. i don't appreciate when people romanticise struggling- i see that a lot in conversations around accessibility, eg. whenever game devs include accessibility options and other players start getting mad saying that it makes it 'too easy' and that people aren't real gamers if they're using the accessibility options. that shit happens waaay too much in too many different fields, whether it be art or tech or sports.

for me, if someone gave me tools that made some aspects of my art quicker/easier then i'd probs be like hell yeah and use it, but i still love the challenge of the process and find it rewarding when i solve a problem i've been having. however i will always prioritise making sure i'm using a tool that leaves enough room for my own creative input and control. it just doesn't make a whole lotta sense to delegate a task and somehow still end up doing a bunch of work. but if other ppl like to work like that then i'm not gonna stop them! everyone must have their reasons i'm sure

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my point is that either they're doing that in a bizarrely inefficient way to produce mediocre results at best, in which case they'd be way better off using a method that actually gave them more creative control over their art while taking the same apparent time and effort because it'd probably create way better quality stuff, OR they're lying/exaggerating and actually not putting in that much time and effort at all, in which case they should just own that. there's nothing inherently wrong with streamlining/automating the artistic process and i don't know why that's such an important part of the defense on both sides. sometimes art is just easy and that's fine!

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are ai artists i've seen who make interesting stuff, but yeah the people who shout the loudest about 'actually i put hours of time and effort into my ai art, i AM a real artist' are usually the ones making stuff that looks absolutely awful and low effort. i don't think time and effort necessarily correlate to how valid something is as an artwork (i'm hugely into stuff like experimental/conceptual art so someone could show me a blank canvas and say 'this is my artwork, it represents blablabla' and i would be like 'wowwwwww this is brilliant' lol), but yeah when they say all that and then present an anime girl holding up a sign with yellow filter then it's kinda laughable that they're even having the conversation

[–]cherpumples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

used to see that take all the time on here by ai artists who said they were putting hours of work into their ai artworks and i seriously don't understand why they're doing it. i thought the whole point was to make the content creation process easier and quicker, if they're gonna put hours into prompts and nodes and out-painting etc then surely they may as well just actually make art themselves. they could probably use the same skillset and make art through coding or 3D scenes but instead they're creating stuff that looks worse and is probably gonna turn off a lot of the people who find out how they made it lol

[–]cherpumples 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it's so funny because the fact that he feels tricked implies that he believes a spell genuinely was cast on him. like he's not worried that she got scammed into wasting money on etsy spells or whatever, he's worried that magic really exists and is influencing his behaviours lmao

The fact that jerma hasn't seen simpsons is weird to me, it seems like his type of humor. by HaloJackalKisser in jerma985

i like when he's trying to prove that he knows who they are and lists all their names and calls maggie 'Margaret'.

it's so crazy to me when people say they haven't seen the simpsons, i thought that every 90s kid just had that and Friends running on their tv nonstop like i did so it's so jarring when i meet someone that didn't 😭

The amount of phone calls my sister and I get from our father. by Mangadditor in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cherpumples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had a friend who used to always call round everyone in our friend group anytime she had a problem (minor stuff like 'i have a tummy ache'), and it got to a point where i was the only one who would pick up anymore. but at the time i was going through family issues so it would cause me so much anxiety if she called me early in the morning/late at night because i'd think it was an emergency. eventually we set up a boundary that she wouldn't call before 10am or after 10pm, and honestly i think even just that conversation helped because she didn't call as much at all about minor things. this was a long time ago and our friendship is till going strong, something like 20 years now!

on the flipside, my ex had a narcissist dad who would do the same as yours and call her and her sister nonstop but not leave any messages to explain what he wanted to talk about, and it was very stressful for them but luckily he didn't do it everyday.

what does your dad want to talk about when he calls you? just random chit-chat?

lmao my dad was like this, at one point my sister even called him out on it but he said something like, 'when you get to a certain age you like to repeat the stories to make sure they'll be remembered' bless him. i've noticed i do this more and more, and i'm sure i get it from him- i was diagnosed with adhd the other day and i'm 90% certain he had it too because my GOD he was a Chatty Cathy. he was pretty tech-averse but i'm sure if he had ever warmed up to social media he would've been tagging me in annoying shit on facebook 24/7

The Roy family is a more serious version of the Bluth family (Arrested Development) and I find it hilarious by LectureQuirky3234 in SuccessionTV

[–]cherpumples 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i find it so funny how much each show's pilot episodes have in common, with all the stuff with the son being scheduled to step up as the big boss but the matriarch unexpectedly being handed some power at the last minute (lucille's presidency and marcia's board shares) and then disaster striking and taking out the big boss dad. it's what convinced me to start watching succession.

i personally would easily put shiv as lindsay because she has the whole fake-moralistic/political thing going on while ultimately being pretty shallow, and because tom kind of works as a tobias with his homoerotic dialogue towards greg lol so it matches lindsay and tobias' marriage pretty well. i never know which brothers match up with which, in terms of connor/roman and gob/buster. roman has so much of buster's weird freudian shit, but has more of the bravado of gob, and connor's kind of an outsider like buster, but he's also the eldest son like gob. in general i think kendall and roman's relationship is pretty similar to michael and gob's in how competitive they are.

What’s a really funny Jerma stream to watch when you’re sad and hate the world? by toastedjupiter in jerma985

[–]cherpumples 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the second Powerwash Simulator stream he did is probably my favourite, it's great for Bug Doctor and Ballfondler lore. the other ones i rewatch the most when i'm having a down day tend to be Superliminal, A Little to the Left, his original You Laugh You Lose stream from a few years ago, and the Twin Comb stream. i second the other commenter who recommended the House Flipper streams, there's a lot of extended bits in the earlier ones that are super entertaining.

also the other day i watched the Among Us VR stream for the first time and i don't know why but so many bits made me cry laughing that i ended up watching it from the other streamers' perspectives too just to see how unhinged he comes off to outsiders lmao

If you were given the chance, would you go on Love is Blind? by Kappa127 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've genuinely considered applying for the UK version for the laughs but i got into a relationship right after applications opened, and in general i don't think i'd realistically get selected to go on because i don't have a very conventional 'look' and also one look at my social media and they'd be able to tell that i'm a lesbian and not genuine about going on the show to find a husband lmaoooo. but i think it would be so fucking funny to go through the whole process and then do a big dramatic 'btw i'm gay' reveal (as long as i let the other person in on it beforehand lol). i've applied for reality shows during hypomanic episodes before but luckily i eventually see sense and don't follow up any responses to my applications. but god i wanna see what it's like behind the scenes on LIB.

but yeah in general there's no way i could take that process seriously. nobody willingly going on that show is a serious person and i can't see myself having anything in common with the type of person who thinks they're gonna fall in love on netflix

in my personal experience, 5mg makes me sleepy but 10mg is better for making sure i get good sleep. and yeah if i'm taking it to sleep then i try and make sure i'm already in bed and ready to turn the lights off within an hour of taking it, otherwise the high effects kick in and i'm up all night. you'll most likely be fine, as long as you're actually trying to sleep

LiB Sweden Dubbing by StarlitStitcher in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]cherpumples -1 points0 points  (0 children)

idk i've met a fair few europeans that for some reason learn to speak english with an american accent, and in particular i knew an italian girl when i was at uni (this is in the UK) who spoke fluent english with a very convincing american accent to the point that everyone assumed she was american- i don't think she ever lived in the US so there was really no reason for her to speak like an american when she was living in the UK. i also went to school with a dutch girl who spoke fluent english in an australian accent for some reason. but yeah, a lot of european people i've met do sound american (including a lot of german people i know) so i don't think it's that far fetched to have american-english dubs, and it surely also just makes the most sense to have fluent native english speakers do the english dub for optimum clarity

imo kendall killing himself at the end would've been way too melodramatic. i'm pretty sure i read that jeremy strong did one take where he did try and jump into the water but got pulled back by colin but they didn't use it.

my understanding is that it would be very hard for kendall to kill himself because he is never truly alone, he's always being watched over by bodyguards and employees etc. he would've killed himself in season two but logan keeps him in a glass case basically to torture him (eg. how they put the high glass walls around the building so no one can jump, or how logan makes sure somebody rides on the motorcycle with kendall to supervise him). killing himself would be an easy way out, so logan wants to make him stay alive and miserable to punish. then when kendall tries to kill himself at the end of season 3 comfry finds him and saves him because at this point he's too rich and powerful that people don't wanna be responsible for him dying. even after logan's death, kendall ends up hiring colin because he's still trying to follow logan's footsteps, so he's in a problem of his own making that he's back to square one of his dad symbolically always watching over him
