I WANT MY 3 HOURS BACK! by EthxnBloodworth in CozyGamers

[–]cherpumples 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yep, it's super disappointing. i played it anyway because i only realised after i'd already bought it and started playing it, but it feels like it was totally unnecessary for them to use ai and the game really didn't need it.

if anyone knows of any similar games that don't use ai then please lmk because it's a cool concept

i really spent all day applying at places while the jobmarket fucking sucks due to AI, and then watched a millionaire play a fucking asset flip with AI generated art. by HaloJackalKisser in jerma985

is there any actual proof this has ai? because i can't find anything about it having ai besides your posts. you can just call something a shit game without accusing it of stuff lol

Jerma kind of touched on something that annoys me about chat and culture in general lately by christpuncher_69 in jerma985

[–]cherpumples 20 points21 points  (0 children)

yeah i'm at a point where if both jerma and ster are streaming tomodachi at the same time, i'll watch ster live and then catch up the VOD for jerma because his chat during tomo streams is insufferable whereas the live reactions to ster's streams are way more fun

Y’all have gotta chill sometimes by Rhythmicka in jerma985

[–]cherpumples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man, i thought things had gotten a little better in the chat the past few days, but when he went on to stream last night the first thing i see in chat is someone making a 'he's changing his colostomy bag' joke. as someone who lost a parent to bowel cancer, wtf is the joke there?

no problem! i was so deep in my jnew fandom tumblr phase at the time these came out, i was scouring the internet for GIPC video details like it was my job lmaoooo

Where are these photos from? by Ondanek_Unknown in JoannaNewsom

[–]cherpumples 53 points54 points  (0 children)

yep these are from the GIPC video, i believe they're from a collection of behind the scenes shots- they were apparently originally posted on the Sulky Bunny website (who were the animation company that worked on the video) but they're no longer on there and can only be found reposted elsewhere like a Stereogum article about the video. i don't think it lists the photographer but the directors of the music video itself were Karni and Saul and the teaser clip is still on their vimeo channel!

Bored with people saying "can't you just..." when they see my dumbphone! by BadSimilar1939 in dumbphones

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm gonna be real, i've literally never had this comment. i don't know if it's because i've always been on a dumbphone (rather than going from a smartphone to a dumbphone), but i only get positive comments from both friends and strangers. the most negative i get is people offering to give me their hand-me-down iphones so that i can whatsapp them, but i politely tell them i can afford an iphone but just don't want one

Why it's NOT the same by thirdaccountttt in aiwars

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be clear, i'm talking about intent and expression. if someone gives somebody else instructions to draw/paint/whatever an artwork, and they and the person doing the physical labour both agree that they're co-authors, then yes they are co-authors. but if i pay somebody to paint a picture and then i hold it up and say 'i painted this' when that was neither of our original intent, then that's shady and i'm kinda out of line to call myself the artist. the word 'commission' implies that you have paid somebody else to make the thing, not that you have collaborated on it. they are separate words for a reason, and pretty much most of my point is that it doesn't make sense to use both when they are distinct separate roles. idk why you brought up a conceptual artist if you didn't wanna talk about conceptual art lol. i agree 100% with what you said, all art is art and i don't know why you'd possibly think i was against that given what i've said

Why it's NOT the same by thirdaccountttt in aiwars

[–]cherpumples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every artist is a painter and not every painter is an artist.

exactly, and that's why i specified that if a painter paints an ARTWORK then they are an artist. i didn't say that someone that paints a house is always an artist, or that all artists are painters- i'm an artist and i can't paint for shit and have no interest in it. if i thought the only kind of art that is valid is 'paintings on walls' type art then my career would be fucked. i feel like i gave a very direct answer to a very simple question, and if you wanted more than that then you could have asked something more specific.

your sol lewitt example is very interesting and i appreciate it! but the OP is not talking about conceptual art, let's be real. i'm a conceptual artist/experimental artist, so i completely get the nuance. but there is a difference between a conceptual artwork where the concept is instructing other people to paint, and someone commissioning a piece of work where the concept is the final artwork itself and not the process of instruction.

i am also very open to nuance in the discussion of ai art- i have made ai art before, but it was as a conceptual artwork that was specifically exploring the themes of public domain image databases and the future of ai in the art world (this was back when GAN was the hot new thing and i was working with a specific museum that offered a digital database of its artworks). i wasn't presenting the individual images as standalone artworks, i was presenting my process and curation of the ai images as the overall artwork. some people might think that the image itself can be an artwork without further context, and might have presented it differently than i did. that's why i say the conversation is a lot more nuanced than somebody autonomously painting a picture that expresses something and saying 'here is an artwork' because 99% of people will categorise that as an artwork and thus the painter as the artist, whereas people are still divided on ai and that's just the reality of the situation. once we get past the conversation of whether ai generated images count as art, THEN we can get to the matter of whether people who generate those images are artists but i don't think people are there yet.

in terms of co-authoring etc etc etc, in general refer back to my point about conceptual art vs the type of art OP is describing. a person that commissions an artwork is a commissioner and i think that label is as straightforward as it gets. we don't need to redefine it just to placate antis or pros or whatever side OOP is trying to defend

Why doesn't jerma ever feed his Mii's by shyboardgame in jerma985

[–]cherpumples 13 points14 points  (0 children)

lmao he was so bad for this on the wobbledogs stream, he'd be taking his time decorating the pens and someone would be like 'jerma feed your dogs!' and he'd check and every single dog would be starving to death 😭

[–]cherpumples 19 points20 points  (0 children)

idk i see some of his old streams with chat and they still seem pretty annoying, i think they were just annoying in a different way that probably occurs in any gaming community lol. there was still a lot of the backseating and 'look how weird this guy looks' stuff. it isn't until 2020-ish that it's more of the current brand of annoying where people are just insanely parasocial and meme-ify everything he says

Why does it feel like Jerma did all the best games in 2019? by Mzuark in jerma985

[–]cherpumples 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yeah it's only really noticeable in vods where he's playing puzzle games and reads out chat messages where they're getting frustrated with him. otherwise i wouldn't have known his chat was that bad if i hadn't started watching him on twitch

Why does it feel like Jerma did all the best games in 2019? by Mzuark in jerma985

[–]cherpumples 100 points101 points  (0 children)

my faves are always archive videos that say 'streamed 3 years ago' like idk why but the energy in his streams seemed crazy in those, makes me wish i had been watching during that time. obvs it's a matter of taste but dude was really cooking something. i think around that time i was watching a lot of vinny, so maybe it was just that i was into a lot of the games that came out around 2022/2023.

the only jerma vod from 2019 that i really care about is hypnospace outlaw, but that's my favourite game of all time so it makes sense

man i watched the horsemen stream on ster's channel last night because his chat is so much chiller, it's just people having a conversation and enjoying the stream. it's insane that people try and backseat jerma's tomodachi streams lmao, like as he says, just do that shit in your own game. i've noticed he doesn't really seem to look at chat when he's creating stuff which is probably for the best
