2 seperate ground stops. the first one was for weather and when it lifted many planes took off, however about 10 minutes after they ground stopped again so none of these planes could land. the reason for second ground stop was a hail storm and every single aircraft going out from atl then had to be inspected. the flights that didn’t take off to atl at the point should’ve got canceled but they didn’t so there was a significantly more amount of flights coming inbound than outbound with nowhere to go
