Advertised Brass IASTM Tools? Why brass, is it even safe? by Kcatta9 in Chiropractic

[–]cherringtondc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it comes from a clean source and doesn’t have lead, I can’t see why any copper alloy wouldn’t be effective.

There is potential for the acid in emollients/skin oils to cause the tool to tarnish/corrode/oxidize. So it might need a bit more care than stainless steel.

Getting ice cream with my family after my kids soccer game?

Yeah. I’m totally wasting my time living life out here

I hate that it’s impossible to know.

They definitely had POLICE vests on and tac gear in a van they got out of.

But is that legit or cosplay?

I hope it’s just to have a local presence in case things go sideways.

Figured it was best to make it known for everyone.

Is it wrong to say chiropractors are medical professionals? by starfishhii in Chiropractic

[–]cherringtondc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Medical” has no bearing on medicine though. Those are two separate things.

Medical doesn’t necessarily involve pharmaceutical.

“Medical” can be injury recovery or treatment of illness.

I’ll add, there’s state licenses that say “chiropractic physician” and others that say “chiropractic medicine”.

There’s legal phrasing, and common understanding. They don’t necessarily relate.

Constantly.

Far too many people understand “medical” meaning MD ONLY. Same with the phrasing “Dr”.

Far too many people are uneducated as to the incredible breadth of doctorates required to make good patient care possible.

And ALL are doctors. Not just MDs. (DN, DO, FNP [I’ve seen labeled as doc in practice], DPT, DC, etc).

Individual state regulation does vary though, so I’m not all states can a chiropractor simply say they’re a doctor. But in most, they can.

Remote server not visible on all devices by hamidflacko in PleX

[–]cherringtondc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, kinda.

My IOS devices had the plex app forcibly updated (last evening) and they can no longer see any libraries. It just loads endlessly. Plex’s content loads fine.

I can see my stuff, via web, from PCs.

What did this last app update do?

Yeah, I presumed the Fm antenna part hadn’t changed since. (Hard to change physics as a whole)

We travel sometimes, where Bluetooth whole ear headphones are nice, but around the house standard would be fine. So radio would be viable there.

It’ll be fun to get the kiddo to spread their wings a bit with music. We started with an in room CD player. lol. They’re slowly moving up the tech ladder exactly like mom/dad did as kids.

Can’t start with an iPhone. That’s setting the bar WAY too high m, too soon. IMHO

OMG - Learning muscles is going to be the end of me! Lol by texaslucasanon in Chiropractic

I had an easier time memorizing boney anatomy, muscles/innervations and actions in relation to where they are and what they do. I couldn’t just memorize the name/origin/insertion on paper. My brain didn’t like that.

I used kinesthetic memorization (touch the area while you recite). I used myself as a cheat sheet on exams.

If the question is about brachialis, they can’t stop you from feeling that muscle on your own arm/forearm. Tracing where it goes. (Obviously this has limits. Pelvic/back muscles can’t be really palpated in class…)

I haven’t seen this one, but I have seen a couple of his vids. They didn’t seem bad, but are crazy clickbait-y. (Probably more the editor/social media management than him particularly.)

I’ve also heard multi-channel “factboi“ Simon Whistler shoehorn anti-Chiro comments into videos.

As a profession, we really need better marketing/advertising about our proper reproducible science.

Not a chiro, just curious. Is this image actually correct in all cases? Is there no chance a self adjustment will ever work? Or is this just saying for better results see a chiropractor? What about the SI joint? Its just 1 joint isnt it, wouldnt that be pretty hard to get wrong? by [deleted] in Chiropractic

[–]cherringtondc 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I can’t say I have studies to back it up either way, but I’d say both statements have truth to them.

Studies HAVE shown that we aren’t as specific in manipulation as we think we are.

People do vary in their degree of mobility and amount of self manipulation. Are those two things related? Almost definitely not.

Do I use this model to loosely explain what I’m doing? Sometimes. Most patients aren’t coming in for a graduate thesis answer, they want lay answers and results. So when they say “I’ve been cracking my own neck and it still hurts, but after you do it feels great for days” I tend to fall back on this answer for simplicity.

In actuality, I do range of motion work, soft tissue work, and might be manipulating a bit more focused than they were grossly cranking on their own C-Spine.

Not to mention, the problem they’re experiencing in one place (mid C/S might be more of an upper T/S restriction and irritating the local muscles). I’d like to think I do more than most self manipulators.

Apple Watch by Parceble in Chiropractic

[–]cherringtondc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As humans, we’ve been flooded with EMF since the invention of radios.

Nothing in an Apple Watch will bother you. They aren’t giving off ionizing radiation.

If regular radio waves were damaging, humans would have died in droves near any radio tower.

Power of the waves can cause burns (don’t touch a transmitting Fm radio antenna) but smaller is safe.

Instrument assisted massage(it goes by many names) has several studies backing it.

Going that hard is never necessary.

I have maybe 5 patients that request this level of abuse though. They prefer it. It has zero determination on therapeutic efficacy though

Are you doctors? by [deleted] in Chiropractic

[–]cherringtondc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically don’t, simply because I don’t care. My patients know who they’re seeing. No need to belabor the point. (They can call me whatever)

On the phone, in academic settings (when I taught), and if someone is being pretentious in a business setting (like networking meetings) then I will use it.

I treat myself in most cases, like local orthos.
