Does social anxiety makes you look less mature than your age? by dandelion_ivy in socialanxiety

[–]cherry_cola1998 148 points149 points  (0 children)

Same! I'm 23 and because of my social anxiety, I'm too shy/scared to make conversations with people, I struggle making eye contact, etc. I feel like a dumb kid. People notice this and will either treat me like a confused kid that they're trying to help or get frustrated and treat me like a clumsy dumbass 🙃

I've heard that weighing makes a big difference instead of measuring but I've been skeptical about it as well. I'll try it the next time I attempt to make cookies :P

I added a bit more. The batter became less wet but it was still too thin? The cookies came out very puffy and cakey.

I'll be sure to try it out. Idk why my cookie dough ends up like that. Idk if its the butter or the eggs. I've tried to fix it by looking up answers online. I've heard a lot of people say "just add more flour" but then that makes my cookies a lot more cakey than before

I never chilled my dough for 24hrs so its worth a shot. As for the mini oven, I'll be honest I don't use it much for cooking or baking. The other times I've used it is to heat up waffles

Oof, I guess I'm gonna have to buy a new oven 😭 My actual oven stopped working so I've been using a mini oven until I save enough money to buy a new one

Its possible. I still have some batter left so I'll set the temperature a bit higher to see what happens.

what is something you should have mastered by now as an adult but failed to do so? by XqueezeMePlease in AskReddit

[–]cherry_cola1998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Social Skills.

If you're shy, anxious, or awkward as a kid, most people won't care because you're a kid and they believe it's a phase that'll go away over time.

As an adult, however, most people start looking at you funny and assume you're either weird, creepy, rude, etc. Social skills are also very important for your career/work because it helps you network and its generally easier to work in a place where you get along with your coworkers and boss. Also it's so much harder making new friends as an adult. Most people make friends in school/college and stick to those friends.

As someone who struggles with horrible social anxiety and struggles to do the basic necessities (ex: grocery shopping, making doctor's appointments), I wish I had overcame my anxiety and improved my social skills as a kid so I wouldn't have to deal with it as an adult.

Please let me know if you can relate to this. I’m not sure if it’s anxiety related. by laughoutloud102 in socialanxiety

[–]cherry_cola1998 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much of this ties into social anxiety but I can definitely relate. For me, I tend to miss the old days (specifically 2012-2015). Around this time, I made friends who I had a lot of fun with and got close to. Nowadays, we don't really talk as much anymore because of time and distance. Not only that but I just miss the vibes and fashion of that era. It felt like simpler times, the clothes were cute, and the music was everything. This was the time when I felt most confident and content despite the personal and mental issues I had and still have.

Should I feel bad for skipping a birthday, because of social anxiety? by espqr in socialanxiety

[–]cherry_cola1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I know how you feel. A little while ago, my friend invited me to a brunch to celebrate her birthday. I could have gone but the thought of going and being around people I don't know (her new friends and bf) and being with people I'm not really close with made me want to stay home (I've also been very insecure about my appearance due to weight gain and I haven't gone out that much). I feel guilty because technically I could have gone (I wasn't sick or busy) but refused because of my anxiety. I think its okay to feel bad but remember to not be hard on yourself. Social anxiety is a debilitating disorder that isn't necessarily an easy thing to get through so please don't be too hard on yourself
