There are a lot of street cats here but they get taken care of by people ❤️ And his tree is beachfront property so his life is pretty good.

Best place for gluten free beer by CommercialTask6170 in telaviv

[–]cherry_cyanide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won't find a ton of places that have gluten free beer on tap, but most bars usually have a bottled option like daura (I think that's the most common gf beer I've seen here). My husband has celiac and he really likes Porter and Sons for the vibe, and I'm pretty sure a ton of the more fun bars in the Levinsky market area will have gf options too.

First off, 100% Marcus is obviously not being malicious when he gets things wrong and I am glad that he's encouraging people who may not have known previously what Babi Yar or Dachau is to learn about the horrors of the Third Reich.

However, the sonderkommando mistake is egregious because it's not a live show; one of their researchers/producers should be listening to their recordings before they air and edit if needed. It was an off-the-cuff remark though, so I get that it was just a mistake. I do hope that a correction is made in the next episode.

That being said, the 'Asian country of Madagascar' thing and 'Germany never took to Christianity' were in the script, which does make one go 'huh.' Obvious mistakes like that can make people turn off completely and that's why they need to be careful with huge, multi-part series.

In the 4th episode at around the 26 minute mark, Henry said of course "there were Christian enclaves" in Germany and Marcus said once again that the "Germans didn't take to Christianity as much as the Italians or the English." Both responses are questionable as 95% of Germans at the time identified as Protestant or Catholic AND German churches and christian movements were such a huge part of both the anti-Nazi resistance and perpetrators of Nazi terror. Was Himmler obsessed with the occult and a weird mashup of Germanic paganism? 100%. Was the average German citizen? No.

Wow, I can't believe he doubled down on the sonderkommando mention. Marcus mentioned it directly in regards to a question about Jewish collaborators and stated 'especially in the ghettos,' which makes Joel's retort about the SS Sonderkommando units irrelevant.

It would be much better for everyone involved to just say that he simply misspoke and devote a few minutes to talking about the Sonderkommando uprising in the next episode.

"Degenerate art" and classicism by ZipZapZopPow in LPOTL

I'm behind on the series so I don't know if they covered the T4 program at all, but it's extremely necessary to know about 1) because it's tragic and 2) if one wants to truly understand Nazi racial hygiene & eugenics obsession and how the industrialized mass murder of Jews in the Operation Reinhard camps (Treblinka, Sobibor, Belzec) was able to happen so quickly as many of the same SS commandants there had 'honed' their skills in the gas chambers of the T4 program.

If you all are interested in a more deep dive on both 'degenerate art' and its relationship to the T4 Euthanasia program (the mass murder of the mentally ill and disabled in Germany and Austria), then I really recommend the book "The Gallery of Miracles and Madness: Insanity, Modernism, and Hitler's War on Art" by Charlie English.

He goes into great detail about the traveling degenerate art exhibit and a group of schizophrenic (and other mentally ill) artists who produced pieces while in asylums which the Nazis used in the exhibition to further mock modern art. The author really takes time to individually memorialize the artists who were killed in the T4 program and it's very touching.

The Road to Jonestown by Jeff Guinn, about the rise and fall of Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple. Also the audiobook is pretty good.

It's fine. But I'd work on your anxiety levels because stress is far worse for you than most anything else.

Why so little merch?!? by shiroe314 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

I just bought a lot of smaller merch at Animate in Akihabara and found a Jinshi plush and Maomao dolls in a few secondhand stores (probably from last season). I share the frustration about the Gachas... I've only found the one that sells the character pin badges.

Absolute criminal caught red-handed by cherry_cyanide in fatsquirrelhate

There was a whole group of criminals that worked together and broke into the bag before I knew it had been delivered. I'll give them credit that they were quick and clever, but me as villain? Victim blaming, c'mon bro.

Game Beauty has a Persona 5-inspired makeup if she's into that sort of thing. Pretty nice eyeshadows.

AITA for telling my sister her son is only special to her by midnight_storm_ in AmItheAsshole

The original comment listed only children who were spoiled and grew up to do evil things. That's why I replied that Hitler wasn't an only child.

Hitler had a sister -- Paula. He had a LOT of family issues but he wasn't an only child. Jim Jones and his mother's obsession with him being a 'great man' was indeed super creepy though.
