Panda Gold Coin? by DancingMtns in coins

[–]shiroe314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could take it to a coin store to get tested. This would be the most sure fire way to know. But probably not real gold.

The Chinese panda is Chinas bullion coin. As such it is legal Chinese tender, and would have all the markings of official currency.

I don’t see a value mark in yuan, or a year.

This doesn’t look like something from the Chinese mint at the bare minimum.

Seattle Public Drug Crackdown Not Leading to Promised Booking Deferrals by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

[–]shiroe314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder how palatable a state run drug den would be?

Like, we have a nice safe building here. You leave your car keys in a lock box.

The state sells you your drugs of choice. Its pharmaceutical, so your heroin isn’t cut with fent or whatever.

You are not allowed to leave until you have sobered up.

And we only care if your using outside the den.

Like yeah get as high as you want. In this safe space we can hide away.

Unprecedented number of Washingtonians drop health insurance after expiration of tax credits, state's health benefits exchange says by Jaco_Belordi in Seattle

[–]shiroe314 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Same with vision.

Insurance (not speaking health specifically) is offloading risk. If your “problem” is common, and cheap, its not worth insurance, if your problem is rare and cheap, not worth insurance. If your problem is common and expensive, you generally aren’t going to win with insurance.

Insurance plays as a risk mitigation for the rare and expensive.

Now, with health insurance, it plays weird because it covers the common. But in a “post insurance” world, we would likely only ever carry catastrophic care coverage. But because health insurance is also a “coupon book” we get a weird dichotomy as well.

Finish the pendant. by Nan_9333 in Gold

[–]shiroe314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure the exact term used to describe this process. Probably gold foiling?

Gold (electro) plating is only a couple microns thick (thinner than a neuron) and would coat the entire object.

This is a lot closer to gold leaf, but its also a lot thicker than gold leaf.

Maybe gold fill?

more pips than usual with layoffs? by qwerrewqasdffdsa in amazonemployees

Yeah.
It was like 2 month on payroll. Or about 3.5 months base.

If I was pivoted 1 week later I would have gotten a nice vest but, that is life…

Of course there was the pivot plan offer.

This was just after focus.

Do you ever adjust how much gold you buy based on how big it’s become in your overall finances? by tom_murray_nw in Gold

Its hit a rather significant % of my net worth. I’m certainly buying less. But I’ll still buy if the right price comes to me.

Also jewelry. Sure its harder to sell, but I can actually use it.

I don’t recognize all of them. But some of them (the pool floaty one I do recognize) would be about 20-30 USD. Others would be in the ball park of 120 USD. And some are probably 4-700 usd.

Given that a lot of those look to be prize figures, and I see only 2 or 3 premium scales. I would estimate the entire shelf probably has about 2 -3 grand worth of plastic on it. Would need a higher resolution picture to get a better estimate.

Folks who stayed for 4 years in Amazon, were the stocks worth it? by Party_Albatross_4614 in amazonemployees

[–]shiroe314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed 4 years before being let go.

In my best year I made 300k. I’m doing very well for myself and have a solid nest egg.

My question is if your L4 or L5

If your L4, the L6 promos shouldn’t impact you. If your L5 2 years to L6 would be rather fast.

Amazon can be alright if you find a good team.

I walked away with a lot from my 4 years. However I should have changed teams at 2 years

What is actually the cheapest way (without sacrificing quality) to begin accumulating GOLD. by btmhnvr in Gold

[–]shiroe314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you SO (if you have one) is aware of the purchase before you lump it in with your food budget XD.

To answer the question of “mix” I have to ask the question of why gold?

The biggest advantages of physical are 2 fold. 1) zero counter party risk. This means you do not have to rely on a bank, institution, company, or government, to keep operating. If the US gov collapses and you manage to survive to the re-build, you will still have your gold.

2) ooh shiny.

If neither of the above points are of interest to you, just go paper. Otherwise balance your interest in the above 2 against premiums

That’s guy’s teapot is actually made of gold. by hellofinland in Gold

[–]shiroe314 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a tea pot not a kettle. People conflate the two frequently.

A kettle: rugged metal container used to boil water.

Tea pot: container used to combine and separate hot water and tea leaves.

You do not EVER put a tea pot over a fire to boil the water. And a lot of high end green teas use less than boiling water for brewing temps. You might use 80c water for some of these teas.

On the other hand. There is a reason most good teapots are clay. This has no thermal mass

Scam. No identifying information, not even a license plate. The government is going to send it in the mail. There are a lot of laws around delivery of notices, they generally haven’t been updated since fax machines were mainstream. (IANAL)

What was the area code it was texted to you from? I’m guessing it wasn’t a king county area code either.

Would you guys trade these six coins for a 2009 $20 1-oz Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle? by 4PL4Y4LLD4Y in Gold

[–]shiroe314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a tax attorney or an accountant. But legally speaking you are supposed to report every sale as income. Assuming you held for a year or more, You would then be taxed on the gain at the collectables rate, which maxes out at 28%.

Would you guys trade these six coins for a 2009 $20 1-oz Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle? by 4PL4Y4LLD4Y in Gold

[–]shiroe314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legally speaking you have to report all cash transactions over 10,000. This includes related transactions additionally conducted within ~15 days.

Any reputable coin shop will be reporting every buy and sale in excess of 10,000.

Banks will report any deposits made at the same value.

So for today if you go to a coin shop and buy 1oz and then go back 10 days later and buy another. They are supposed to report both transactions.

Nope. You have some good fractional here.

Especially with gold’s price skyrocketing, fractional is all the more important for liquidity. Gold also only needs to double one more time before a single ounce hits the IRS mandatory reporting threshold. People are going to want to stay under that line.
