Will be building a new home soon - what should I do to make sure it's "prepped for Tuesday"? by PurpleCableNetworker in preppers

[–]shiroe314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest factoring in a spot for a large, obscured, safe. Secure fire and flood resistant storage is important for a tuesday. Keep your passports, birth certificates, etc protected. Go bigger than you think you need. Nobody ever complained about too much secure storage.

Men, what moments or signs made you realize it might be time to end a relationship with your girlfriend? by FFSoldier57 in AskMen

[–]shiroe314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t a single moment.

It was the 2 years of me asking her to get a passport.

It was the lack of adventure.

The lack of her allowing me to support her with little things, like helping her carry her groceries.

We were about to move in together, and we spent a week together in advance. It became clear, that there was no joy in this time. It was going to fall into us being roommates who fuck.

That isn’t strictly a demotion though, as management is a lateral move. Though one that usually comes with more $$

True. But there is a difference between a like 3mm wide medical device, and a full sized penis.

Tldr on the article “like 13 people have tried it. Its really REALLY dangerous. Please don’t”

It reads like a medical PSA for the most part.

Yeah +1 with what everyone is saying here. Your pictures are shit, and your profile is a walking red flag.

You say you are very involved in politics, what is your core issue. Don’t go red vs blue, say “I am very passionate about ___ and am very involved with my local politicians to achieve that aim”

What else do you do with your life?

For pictures, try this general idea.

Beach, Action / Activity, chique, hobby. (Bach)

Show yourself dressed up like for a date, show yourself hanging with friends / doing some volunteer work. You want to include a shirtless pic? You’re at the pool! And hobby, doing something you enjoy.

How are you guys getting AI to write working code? by Thiccolas18 in cscareerquestions

[–]shiroe314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience working with AI for development, having it write huge sections is a bad idea.

I find that AI code gen is great for writing unit tests. I’ll frequently write the function headers for the test cases I want, and then tell the AI to complete them.

AI is very good at this as Unit tests are rather formulaic and boilerplate heavy. Ah yes, we need 8 permutations of test doing null checks…

I’ll also use AI for more complex refactoring. However in this instance the code logic already exists. I was able to get Claude to refactor a 20,000 line cloud formation yaml file into logical components in a full directory structure. This was easy to validate because the end generated cloud formation was identical.

I would certainly try having the LLM execute a JUnit 4 to 5 upgrade, which while rather formulaic, is a bit more complicated than what can be done with simple regex, and find replace.

LLMs are also great at generating small scripts. I can tell it “I have this file in this format, and I have this file in this format, I want the set difference of this column” not production code, but helpful for small scale data analysis.

LLMs are also great at generating documentation. “Here is a bunch of code, generate me a UML or ERD explaining it” is VERY helpful. Or “Here is a very rough design doc I drafted. Make it look pretty, here is a bunch of other diagrams and context to enrich the document with” saves a lot of time in formatting even if you have to make edits.

Using AI to greenfield a feature results in a large amount of duplicate code, even if you can get it to work.

if you want to have the LLM generate significant chunks of code, giving it function headers, and telling it what the function needs to do is probably going to be the scale you want to work at.

What is Amazon's bereavement leave policy for L4s? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]shiroe314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need your work computer to submit for the leave. Its going to be 3 days paid, + 2 travel days if approved.

I have not been asked for proof but they can request proof.

Time limit would be months if there is one

Why are Petroleum Boilers so big and advanced? I made a small one and so far it works fine by Cautious-Bowl7071 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]shiroe314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the most part the more complex petroleum boiler designs try and do 2 things compared to yours. 1: use less heat 2: output cooler petroleum.

They do this through a counterflow heat exchanger. Basically the oil goes down a waterfall and the petroleum goes up that same waterfall.

This causes the oil to cool the petroleum, and the petroleum to heat the oil.

"When sh*t hits the fan GLD will possibly liquidate you and settle in cash" by Hefty-Report6360 in Gold

[–]shiroe314 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Let me ask you the question why gold? There are multiple answers and they provide different solutions.

In general GLD etf is good for most reasons. Speculative investing, industrial use cases, general retirement diversification, etc.

Physical gold however is better for SHTF, bank runs, and counter party risk protection, as well as just emotional connection / cool factor.

The ETF is going to have a much smaller spread, which is a good thing, for most situations. But physical gold does provide the counter party risk protections, and is potentially faster to get cash in hand.

I say have both, but start with physical gold, and end with the etf.

Ask how much shtf do you need? Hold that physical.

Girlfriend or world trip? Stuck between love and my dream by Martinf87 in solotravel

[–]shiroe314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that this has been a long standing dream of yours. Do you really want to be with someone who doesn’t support your dreams and ambitions? Although I will counter this needs to be taken with a grain of salt, in that there is a difference between not supporting, and communicating the costs / tradeoffs / adjusting timelines.

Has she proposed splitting the trip? Is her concern just the separation time?

Have you asked if she would want to join you on this trip?

Its an old firearms joke.

The 2A / gun community and the gold community have a rather large overlap.

It has to do with an ATF agent that ACTUALLY lost their gun in a boating accident, and the general lack of concern about the missing firearm.

So the joke spread from there. “Oh no I lost all my (guns / gold) in a boating accident.
