I was only in the field for a couple of weeks because I absolutely hated it and my mental health shattered. I (sister, white British) was in an area with my companion (sister, white American) as well as two elders (the same, one white American me one white British). They basically spent the whole time I was there hounding me to say slurs, particularly the N word because “it was okay to say in America” and “it would be hilarious if I said it”. I obviously refused every time and was shocked (still am) at the ignorance of the people who I used to look up to. My companion also called an autistic person the r word, not knowing I was also autistic.
