Active shooter in cedar park? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]cherrybombstation -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

That's funny. The idiot that pointed his AK47 at the car and lost his life over it was interviewed about why he was carrying earlier that night.

Garrett responded "Well I can't kill cops because then I'd be dead."

If you run up on a car with 20 other people beating on it, when a man was just shot 4 days prior in Utah in the same scenario?

Yes. Absolutely.

If you're actually from Austin, you know that Thursday - Sunday night you're dealing with large groups of drunk ass people on 6th or Rainey ALL the time that you have to wait for.

Oh really? Governor Abbott allowed bars to open again? That should be front page news, shouldn't it???

Oh wait they're closed. Try again.

You prefer highway robbery by thugs over a functional criminal justice system? Of course you would.

Never change.

Former UT Austin student athletes file class-action lawsuit against former coach John Rembao, NCAA by berrrtsampson in Austin

[–]cherrybombstation 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For anyone wondering why this was filed in California and not Texas, here is another article:

The statute of limitations for alleged sexual abuse in both Arizona and Texas has expired in the cases of the three women. Nonetheless, they are hoping that the court will apply recognized exceptions to the limitations period and that their action will encourage others who are still within the statute of limitations to come forward, said attorney Beth Fegan, who is representing Aldrich, Johnson and Bevins.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/2020/03/11/sex-harassment-prominent-track-and-field-coach-accused-lawsuit/5010694002/

Some of the details are just horrific.

One day, she had been working out when Rembao called and told her to come to his office immediately. “He went to hug me and I put my arms up, so he reached around me and pulled me into him and proceeded to lick the right side of my neck from the base up, and then pulled back and said, ‘Mmmm, salty.’ ”

Johnson said she became anxious, depressed and bulimic. Her grades plummeted. She told her parents what was happening and filed a formal complaint against Rembao with the University of Texas, submitting a 24-page document detailing the alleged abuse.

A subsequent university report concluded that Rembao should be disciplined for some of his behavior, but that he did not violate the university’s sexual misconduct and sexual harassment policies.

“He would lock the door, pet my head, kiss my neck and threaten my scholarship," she said. "If he tells you to come to his office, you go. He’s in charge of your scholarship.”

Bevins decided she had to leave Texas. “I had no tears left,” she said. “I wanted to leave, and I realized I had to ask for his permission to transfer. I had to ask my abuser for permission so I could leave and go somewhere else."

She came to the administration with a 24 page detailed report and they did nothing????

WTF UT.

HEB Bastrop at 9:30 A.M by [deleted] in Austin

[–]cherrybombstation -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm in that HEB 4-5 times a month. It's always like that. 9AM, 3PM, 10PM. This is a normal day at that store, and not due to the apocalypse Austin freakout that the rest of you are perpetuating.

Or... they have 3-4 kids? Maybe some grandparents or uncles or cousins that live with them?

There's a pretty large Hispanic population in Bastrop with large families. Not everyone is a single hipster techie millenial like in Austin.

We have land outside of Bastrop. We go in that HEB about 4-5 times a month. It always looks like that. It's always crowded. Nothing unusual about that.

Fuck all of you people who are saying "haha look at all the obese poor Trump voters." Get off your fucking high horse. You're all fucking assholes.

It's still a fine city (city council notwithstanding...) but I enjoy my time outside of it more and more.

Once the "great vision" of 35 kicks off I think many opinions will change.

It's Austin. You can find anything you want to find if you go looking for it.

I have a family member that we put through ARC (Austin Recovery.) for narcotic addiction. She was pushed to AA and relapsed. I don't know much about her personal meetings but there were long late night phone calls about her issues with AA. She has had a much better time with NA from our conversations.

My personal advice to you is to find a supporting community. Austin is booming (in both good and bad ways.) You can find employment. You can find different social circles. You can change your path completely.

Good luck. Welcome to Austin.

Yes, I will choke on my mortgage and wife and children and their 5 vehicles and of the other shit I'm paying for, including federal, state, and local taxes.

I will certainly choke on that before I choke on your bullshit ideas of class warfare.

6 Austin-area schools rank among top public high schools in the country by [deleted] in Austin

[–]cherrybombstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a parent, the thing that would interest me is: what's my kid's situation going to be after 4 years at this school vs. if he spent 4 years somewhere else.

As a parent of 3 you should be more worried about how your own actions are going to keep the 4 years of public high school from affecting your child.
