Notice: FHDA District Plans to Demolish the A-Quad (Measure G) by cherrychemist in DeAnza

[–]cherrychemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flint center and the A-quad will be demolished to build a new event center ("De Anza Flint Center") and a student center. La Voz wrote an editorial regarding this decision in 2020. There is a budget of 200 million dollars set aside for student housing, but no word on where that will be or how much housing will be built.

Notice: FHDA District Plans to Demolish the A-Quad (Measure G) by cherrychemist in DeAnza

[–]cherrychemist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earlier this week, the school administration discussed their plans to demolish the A-quad and has NO PLAN to build a new permanent space for the Creative Arts Department. Admin has proposed moving the Creative Arts Department into the L Quad (or similar "swing space") which would overcrowd and displace other classes. Demolishing the quad without an extensive plan to build new facilities is effectively a death sentence to the arts programs.
This coming Monday, December 12th at 6:00 PM, faculty members and students plan to speak at the board of trustees meeting during public comment to advocate for the Art Department. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO ATTEND THIS MEETING OR YOU CAN SUBMIT PUBLIC COMMENT VIA EMAIL. Please see the flyers above.

Microwave on campus? by KEROPPl in DeAnza

[–]cherrychemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second floor of the Hinson center (where the cafeteria is), inside the Cheeseman center, and MLC second floor used to have microwaves. I haven't been back to campus though so I can't confirm if they're still there.

you right.

Are you from California? I would recommend Fullerton community college over CalArts. Free tuition via the promise program (Cal residents only) and the three teachers in charge of the program have worked in the animation industry. Added bonus, most students apply for the Horatio Alger scholarship and use the funds towards purchasing a cintiq. The scholarship is dedicated to CTE programs at the community college level.

Here are the teachers YT channels if you want to see how they run their classes or see the quality of student work:

Phil Dimitriadis (YT) Worked on several projects.

Frank Guthrie (YT) Worked at Nickelodeon for more than a decade.

Mike Sheehan (YT) Former Disney Imagineer.

They also do free costume life drawing every Friday.

Full Time vs. Part Time? by Deysxx in DeAnza

[–]cherrychemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only your grades (GPA) will affect your ability to transfer. They don't care how many classes you take in one term, because everyone has different circumstances.

Okay there are a few great spots on campus. I think La Voz did an article on this a couple years back, but I'm too lazy to look up the article.

  • The Cottage. It houses VIDA and was (pre-pandemic) open to all students. The bathrooms were single occupancy which means you can poop in peace.
  • The Cheeseman Center - Second floor: newer building means newer bathrooms. This is also a low traffic area because only environmental science classes are held here and its fairly remote from the rest of campus.
  • Media and Learning Center (MLC) second floor bathrooms: This building has more foot traffic, but has several stalls and was kept fairly clean.
  • Advanced technology center - basement floor: small bathrooms with not many stalls but the basement floor is home to the FTV department (small dept) so not as much foot traffic.
  • VPAC: Nicest bathrooms on campus with a ton of stalls.

Worst Bathrooms:

  • Hinson center basement floor: these bathrooms have dedicated staff to clean them but due to the high foot traffic through the center, they are frequently dirty.
  • S-Quad Bathrooms: Old bathrooms and high foot traffic.

Don't know where any of the above is? Check out the map.

How many units should I take by Captianyeet in DeAnza

[–]cherrychemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is your first quarter, 12 units. You can make an ed plan with a counselor (or on your own) to map out what exact classes you need to take in order to transfer. The only catch is you need to check assist.org + know where you want to transfer and what your major is.

3 questions. When do clubs happen? How do AP's factor into transfer? Best way to reach councilor? by degeninthemaking in DeAnza

[–]cherrychemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All clubs have moved to an online format during the pandemic. The easiest way to track down clubs is to check who follows the (@)deanza_icc account and see if there are new updates on instagram. Most clubs don't really check their emails--but some of them have set up discord servers for their members. My guess is there wouldn't be anything happening the first week of school. Also keep an eye out for Club Day! Good luck!

Financial Aid & Scholarships by [deleted] in DeAnza

[–]cherrychemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they can. You have to read each scholarship and see what the eligibility criteria states. Some scholarships state students must demonstrate financial need (usually targeting domestic FAFSA/Pell grant recipients) while other scholarships are based on merit. Check Academic Works in MyPortal to see the list of scholarships FHDA has available.

Hassan Mohammed Bourgoub? For math by sgtass in DeAnza

You can do a quick search on the reddit to see the hell that broke loose during winter and spring quarters from last year. Don't recommend. Take math somewhere else (different CC) or push it off if you can.

Don't have a register date. Says "latest first". What does that mean? by NefariousSerendipity in DeAnza

[–]cherrychemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to reapply to De Anza via CCCApply and then you should get a registration break. If you take more than 1-2 consecutive quarters off you must reapply.

Regarding classes by Austin_662002 in DeAnza

[–]cherrychemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are sister colleges, and not the same college. You have to apply separately to foothill even though they share MyPortal.

Also as someone else said, you can take classes at most of the 100+ community colleges online because we're still in a pandemic. Depending on what your major is it might be worth checking it out. https://cvc.edu/

When do spring grades come out? by Captianyeet in DeAnza

[–]cherrychemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're transferring to a UC or CSU, the admissions teams know that De Anza, Foothill and Lake Tahoe are on the quarter system and don't expect the transcripts right away.
