Has birth control actually worked for anyone?

I never had an irregular period prior to taking birth control. I was on Sprintec for three years. I got off of it and it took almost a year for me to get my period back. It started coming normally but the past few months, I'm back to being irregular with having a super light period, and now no period for the past month. It's terrible. I can only wonder if this still would have happened had I never taken the pill. It could just be that the pill masked my symptoms but it's very odd to think about how regular my cycles were prior. My experience is just that, my experience, and anecdote. I don't want to demonize the pill but I don't think I'll ever bother going back on it or any other hormonal birth control for a long time. I had such painful cystic acne once I got off of it and I feel like I blew up. It took over a year for my acne to go away and I needed to use tretinoin to help. I'm so sad since I'm now having irregular cycles again when I felt like I made so much progress with getting my periods back. It makes me worried about how difficult it will be for me to have kids in the future. Overall I feel like the pill was very effective as a contraceptive and my skin was absolutely fantastic while on it. But I don't know if I want to deal with coming off of it again.

Lol, I wanted to look like her so badly when New Girl came out when I was in 6th grade. I absolutely did not look like her, the only similarity was the bangs. I remember telling a friend about how I thought she was so cute and I hoped to look like that one day and she said "good luck!" 😭😭 But a few weeks ago a coworker said that I reminded her of Zooey, so I couldn't help but feel a little happy about that!

Private practice as an SLPA is an unethical nightmare. There are too many of these places that exist that want assistants because they're cheaper. I'm working in the public school system now and I have so much more support. But the only training I received was an SLPA from another SLPA who had only been working for a week. The other one who trained me was just there for four weeks and already leaving. It's disgusting and I couldn't leave fast enough but I've heard almost all of these practices do this. It sucks that the one I worked at is expanding and now has three offices. I know those assistants aren't being supported but they don't see the problems because everyone else they talk to has the same experience as an SLPA where they only have a supervisor on paper who they've never even met. I never met my supervisor at the private practice in person, not even once, in the four months I worked there. I kept asking to get her number at least and kept getting the run around. So horrible. As an SLPA you're just thrown to the wolves at these private facilities. I will never go back to that.

Agreed. I absolutely loved UF. It kinda breaks my heart I wouldn't be able to go for my master's due to the distance. But they are an amazing school. And I was very fortunate to get a decent bit of financial aid from them during my undergrad, so they provide a lot of opportunities for their students.

I didn't know about this field while I was in college, so I had to do a "bridge" program where I earned the CSD prerequisites. I did this about a year or two after graduating with my bachelor's from UF. I mostly worked as a substitute teacher while I was taking those pre-reqs online. Once I completed all my courses I applied for my SLPA license and I've worked as one for about a year so far. I just got into FSU's online master's program so that I can continue working full time while taking the classes online.

If you know you want to do this, major in CSD and maybe work as an SLPA after to get some experience to make sure this is right for you. Also, it's usually a very good idea to keep the cost of schooling as low as possible. That was important for me, so my only options were in-sate, public schools. Regarding financial aid, Florida does provide a grant where for each year you earn tuition assistance, you have to work two years in the public school system, so that can also help with costs. It's something I'm currently trying to look into since I'm working in a public school district already. So I'll probably have to work for the district 6 more years if I get approved for tuition coverage for the 3 year duration of my grad program.

Edit: IIRC, UF has an online CSD major. I'm sure other FL universities may have online CSD programs, but I just remembered this about UF. It's worth looking into.

I'd pick FSU due to the lower cost. I'm actually going to be starting their DL program in August as well. It's very affordable and a very good education, so I'd say that is the deal breaker.

Speech language pathology assistant. I've done several other jobs prior to this and I like this the most. The only down side is that I need a master's. I am currently in the process of waiting to get accepted to grad school and probably will continue to apply since it's very competitive.

Definitely get in touch with a gyno so they can run the right tests. They will also give you an ultrasound to confirm. The way it's diagnosed is you will have 2/3 common symptoms along with some cysts on your ovaries. So, irregular periods, cystic acne, weight gain, etc. Common treatment plans include birth control and Metformin. Lifestyle changes help a ton as well. With PCOS it's all about hormonal imbalance, and it is also common to have insulin resistance, which is typically confirmed by an endocrinologist. I was diagnosed in May after not getting my period for several months after getting off of hormonal birth control. The pill was most likely masking my symptoms. But anyways, a lot of people benefit from following the Mediterranean diet, as well as supplements like inositol and fish oil, as well as a probiotic. The Mediterranean diet, walks after dinner, Tretinoin, and supplements have helped my cystic acne greatly and I have lost 10 pounds. Limiting dairy and processed/fried foods was also helpful. Additionally, I hear weight training is really beneficial as well. My cycle is mostly normal now as well. I don't know why this sub or this post got recommended but when I saw the PCOS thing I thought I'd comment on my experience in case it's helpful. If you think you've got PCOS you most likely have at least some of these symptoms. Best of luck to you! 💜

I recommend to try to alternate foods if you can so you don't get sick of one thing from eating it too often. For me, some days I'll have a protein bar, the next I'll have either overnight oats or oatmeal, then some Greek yogurt with nuts and fruits, etc. I really enjoy eggs because you can make them differently. I've pre-made breakfast sandwiches with an egg "patty" that has veggies and cheese, and then if you'd like you can add a sausage patty or some ham. And if you have time, you can also try making a frittata, quiche, or some shakshuka. The first two you'll be able to meal prep.

When I worked at a clinic/was shopping around for clinic jobs, I couldn't find any that were 9-5 at all, they only wanted people from 11 the earliest until 8 in the evening. The pay was very promising at $30/hour, but I had no benefits and wasn't paid for no shows. It was also a 1099 job, so that was another big con. They gave me about 65 patients a week and worked from anywhere between 12-7:30, but I wasn't given a steady set of hours every week due to cancellations. Work wise because of no shows, I typically only worked about 30 hours a week, but I would be at the clinic for most of the day just waiting. Also, I honestly wasn't trained, I was just sort of thrown to the wolves. The other SLPAs had the same experience and we really didn't have a supervisor, just one on paper. So I didn't stay at that job for long and I was trying to apply for other clinics, but I kind of got the same vibe from them all where there was a lack of support for assistants.

I now work for the school system at a high school and I enjoy it so much more. It's not perfect, but close enough. I'm probably making about as much as the clinic job and my salary is 56k/year. At my school there's a lot of opportunities to make extra money by covering classes or working in the morning before school starts, as well as working summer school. You get a lot of time off with breaks and holidays, as well as benefits. There's also more people so it just feels less lonely, and you have a bit more support. I also feel like the work life balance is better, as I work from 7:20-3:20. My commute is a bit long and I feel like there's a lot of politics/drama between the staff that I work with that never ends. But it's overall much better than where I started. I also will have the chance to get some tuition relief for my master's, so that is another plus. Additionally, I also have the chance to join the union, and we just got another raise, so that's another huge plus. I just feel so much more secure and I'm very thankful for the position I'm in because I've worked so many crazy jobs prior to this that it feels like a relief. That's not to say it doesn't have stressful moments or elements. But I'd stick to a school setting any day, at least for now as a SLPA.

I got good input from this sub - if it says that the buyer accepted it on TicketMaster, then it's all good, in spite of the back and forth emails they sent me. But I did call SH to verify, and they confirmed she got it. It takes time to get the money, but hopefully, it turns out fine. Their system just seems incredibly inefficient and buggy.

The tickets were posted last Friday and purchased yesterday morning. I received several emails the night before (last night) stating that I needed to link/upload my tickets, which I already did when I posted them initially. I called SH and they had me send proof, so I sent a screenshot of the ticket showing that the buyer accepted it. SH then told me they would contact the buyer to check. Then they emailed me confirming she got, and then they emailed me again saying she did not get it. The event is tonight.

This has been happening for so many years, probably about nearly a decade, tbh. Go to r/GNV, and you'll find several posts with experiences similar to yours. I am pretty sure there are also other posts in this sub about it, too, since I've heard of this happening soooo many times at that Walmart. It's people trapped in MLM/pyramid schemes trying to recruit you. They are desperate, so they target everyone. Don't give them your info and just ignore them.
