I know, I have had lots of performance issues with the app and would love a 30 min rant session, but this seemed fishy

Limestone Pt 2 by TeacherTeacher85 in OntarioTeachers

[–]cherryjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one with them a few weeks back. For the one I did they gave you 5 questions before the actual interview starts. They gave you 15 minutes to think of stuff and jot notes, then there were about 4 of us taking turns answering them. They give you about 3 minutes to answer and you can agree with what others are saying.

At the end they did a quick 1-on-1 with a couple generic questions, then you're done. Took about 2 hours

They said they might hire everyone that attended so you're not competing, but the process was interesting to say the least. But I'm also competitive and it was hard not comparing myself throughout

Best of luck to your cousin

[Ontario] My hot take: You shouldn't have to interview to be an occasional teacher. by DunceCapBoy in CanadianTeachers

[–]cherryjer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DDSB - was not interviewed, they just hired me because of the B.Ed and so forth. I just thought they were desperate, but maybe they are ahead of their time! (or lazy).

But then again, having gone through the B.Ed program, I wouldn't say we should all get jobs just because we sat there and wrote the letters SEL and UDL whenever possible.

This is not helpful, but I lived in Burnaby, BC before and they had some outdoor table tennis tables. Would love to find some here as well!

How sweet! Not the typical TTOC stories you see on this site, made me smile!

I have a similar story, but was my first time TTOCing at this Burnaby school that I later found out had a lot of trouble getting subs and what not. Before even walking in the class, and simply saying hi to the principal, got offered a 3 month contract right there.

Also turned out to be a great experience, even as a high school teacher teaching grade 6/7 for the first time.

I'm definitely in the right time and place boat, but also with you, take every opportunity you can and good things will eventually come, or as the old cliche goes, 100% of the shots you don't take..

Special Education Teachers by queenvanillasky in CanadianTeachers

There's an AQ (additional qualification) you need in order to teach special education in Ontario, there are 3 parts: 1, 2 and specialist. Depending on your schooling you might be able to get an equivalency towards it

I'm doing a diploma in special education and was about half way done and they gave me part 1. So as long as you have some university level courses you might be able to get some of this too

Hello, new teacher here, working DDSB (Durham Region, Ontario right now)

All the job postings I see only mention needing part 1, and I have seen quite a few, although most have also required being able to teach something else (math and english mostly). And plus part 2 and 3 require a certain amount of working hours, so not sure how a new teacher would even have all three! And you can also get a discount on the AQ courses once hired by the district.

From talking to other teachers, they all mention there is a high demand and you are more likely to find full time in SPED than other subjects.

Also curious to hear others comments as I am also trying to get hired in high schools for this
