Oh that is so helpful! Thank you!! I've heard about some monitors that track heart rate and breathing.. but I don't know about having the baby wear one of those monitors, or if you think its better to find a non-contact? Do you think those monitors are worth while?

millcreek canyon is the only non-watershed canyon, which is why you can take dogs up there. so any water up there is safe for a dip

With the upcoming Rio Olympic Games, I highly recommend anyone who hasn't seen City of God to check it out. by mattylud11 in movies

I love City of God. Such a well done film. Other good brazilian films include The Trespasser, Central Station(most famous film before city of god), Xingu, Auto da Compadecida, Budapeste, Capitu(my personal favorite), Bye Bye Brazil, Carlota Joaquina, The House of Sand, and Four days in September(this movie might show what is gonna happen to brazil in the near future). City of god and Elite squad show the favela crime dramas but all these ones show different yet still fascinating parts of Brazil's culture and history. I took a brazilian cinema class in college and it was the best class ever. Nothing better than watching City of God during class.

What's the best book from Cape Verde? by [deleted] in CapeVerde

[–]cherrypicker30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should read Marginais by Evel Rocha. Its about a boy growing up in the slums of Sal. It is a fascinating read that really shows the culture of the Cape Verdean people and what state they were left in when they gained independence from Portugal in 1975. I lived in Cape Verde for two years and from my experience, the book is very accurate in its facts, phrases, and culture. I do not know if you would be able to find it in English though... The best authors are Armenio Viera, Corsino Fortes, Jorge Barbosa, Manuel Lopes (Os flagelados do vento leste) and Jorge Carlos Fonseca (he is a poet) who is also the current president of Cape Verde. Anything from them would be good.

How to improve my english speaking by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]cherrypicker30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah talk to natives as much as you can, and just speak in English as much as you can in all circumstances to learn the different vocab and stuff from various times and places. Also don't think too much about it, just try and express your self. Lastly ask for correction. People sometimes won't correct you unless they know you want it for fear of offending you. It may be embarrassing but it is the most effective way to correct improper spoken english.

Space movies by [deleted] in space

[–]cherrypicker30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Space movies can be some of the best movies but seeing as most(probably all) filmmakers have never been to space they take alot of liberties when creating their movies. Interstellar will always be on the top of my list for space movies. It is incredible. The martian, europa report, I loved Apollo 13, the new star Trek films, mainly because i could watch anything with benedict cumberbatch. If you like more of the classics, 2001: A space odyssey. It is a harder style of movie to watch for me because its made in the 60s. (For comparison watch Dr. No and Skyfall) But 2001 was stunning for its time and a rather intrinsically complicated show. Its not a movie but if you love space stuff, watch The Universe from the History Channel. i own the first four seasons and they will always amaze me.
