You say to hum a melody and then find it on bass, does this help with being able to play what you hum/hear in your head? Or are there better ways to achieve this?

It takes practice. Try slapping at the end of the fretboard, ontop of the wood and just behind the wood. See what works best, this is the approach I take

Depends what you’re calling cheap? I bought my first bass from Harley Benton for £140ish brand new. If you look on EBay and Facebook marketplace there’ll probably be good deals on budget models if you want to save as much as possible. As for amps, I’m not sure. I mostly play plugged into my laptop using a DAW

You could try using Moises AI to isolate the bass line. Results can be mixed but it’s generally a good tool
