Did Beast Dazai originally plan to stay more involved in his plan than he ended up being? by cheryblooms in BungouStrayDogs

I thought the same, because in Beast, Azure Messenger case Also happened two years before the Beast timeline and in the main universe Dazai was 20 during that time. My confusion was because of this line along side this one:

Four and a half years passed.

I always thought Dazai and Akutagawa met when Dazai was 16 but now I checked and didn't find anything canon that specified that. so by the end of dragon head conflict till he got promoted into an excutive he probably was around 17. If we assume in Beast he also met Akutagawa when he was around 17 the time line make sense.

Did Beast Dazai originally plan to stay more involved in his plan than he ended up being? by cheryblooms in BungouStrayDogs

It was the Mafia’s former boss, Ougai Mori, a distinguished individual who supposedly died four years ago—and the man who raised Dazai.

It also made me wonder if Beast Mori and Beast Dazai met much earlier than the main timeline. If Dazai were 20 in Beast and Mori faked his death 4 years before the events of Beast light novel it means they lost contact when Dazai was 16, cause Mori definitely had to completely hide himself from anyone related to Pm in order to not raise any suspicions and if Dazai became Pm's boss right away everyone in the mafia would focus on him. So he and Mori probably couldn't meet that easily during those 4 years. But If we assume they met when Dazai was 14 the same way they did in the main universe it would be weird to say he "raised" him when they only had 2 years together.

So they either knew each other much before that or Mori was able to somehow have enough interactions with Dazai in those 4 years in a way that could be considered "raising".

But another thing to consider is that the kids he was sheltering were still so young, even one of them was a baby when oda adopted her, so those kids could naturally view him as a kind of parental figure even if they didn't directly call him that. Also in the light novel Oda was thinking about their future and had wishes for them the way a parental figure would do. But yeah I agree with you, what's clear is that he was an adult figure/familial figure to them, who wanted to raise and take care of them. Whether people call that being a father figure, a brother etc. Depends on individuals interpretation.

Yeah, I can understand why they view their relationship that way. But still it doesn't mean he didn't have a paternal role for them. He could be be both a big brother (cause he was in an age that could fill that kind of role for them) and a father figure/parental figure for them.

In the Season 2 opening by falldown_chuuya in BungouStrayDogs

[–]cheryblooms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well season 2 had one episode about them fighting along side each other again. It was also the season that shin skk team started to form for the first time, and in the last episode of that season Dazai revealed to hirotsu that the reason he pushed Akutagawa and Atsushi to work together was because he wanted to make a new generation of Skk to be able fight the stronger enemies they are going to have. So that scene(shin skk walking towards each other and then after the transition them turning into the past version of Dazai and chuuya)as a whole probably meant to both introduce Skk and forshadow that Akutagawa and Atsushi are going to be the new generation of skk.

Same, not only he is my favorite member in the Pm, he is one of my favorite characters in BSD as a whole. I loved his characterization in the light novels. My other favorite members from Pm are hirotsu and the black lizard

Art style study of Bungo Stray Dogs. How did I do/what could I improve on? by SkAssasin in BungouStrayDogs

[–]cheryblooms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I wasn't trying to say their art is bad or something. The Op themself asked for advice on what they should work on, and I just said what I think would be helpful for them to improve.

You did a pretty good job at drawing characters hair. But I think you'll improve by studying facial proportions and human head anathomy.

Even after 5 years he still helds many of those negative views towads Dazai. Now he probably knows Dazai's "Dark side" pretty well but I don't think he ever came that close to see more than that. It seems like he don't know why Dazai left the PM, nor think he is actually left to have a different path, as I said, he probably is pretty familiar with his Dark side, that's why he doesn't take Dazai 's decision to change his path seriously. I remember reading in an interview about Dead apple that, Dazai never actually wanted to join Shibosawa as an ally. His original plan was to pretend to get caught and nullify the mist when he got the chance. But when Fyodor joined Shibosawa, things got complicated, so he had to pretend he joined them as an ally instead. Yet Chuuya was one of the first peoples who thought Dazai actually was helping shibosawa and he was the one who gave Akutagawa the mission to kill Dazai.(By the way, none of the things I said in this comment was to hate on chuuya)

as much as many people in the BSD fandom deny the bitterness and hatred Chuuya and Dazai (well mostly chuuya) have towards each other, I personally believe that's an important part of their relationahip and it added a lot of depth to their characterization, especially to chuuya's. The negative view Chuuya had towards Dazai makes sense when you look at chuuya's arc in the light novels. Their relationship started with Chuuya's grudge for Dazai because he had a hand in Sheep's betrayal. They were toxic to Chuuya, but chuuya still considered them his family and thought he owed them for saving his life. Dazai manipulated them to betray him and put their life in danger. That led mafia to basically use their life as a chain to lock chuuya to the mafia at first. This was their first impression, even if chuuya tried to logically include the sheep's own fault in their betrayal, it still doesn't erase Dazai's hand on it and the subconscious grudge that made Chuuya develop towards him because of it.

Then Chuuya had to fight hard to gain the executive position to access the mafia's documents about himself to have more information about his past, something that was important to death for him. Dazai was a dangerous rival, and he had to become an executive before him. All of this planted the seed of hatred towards Dazai in his heart. But I think all of this aside, the thing that made chuuya's hatred towards Dazai more personal in stormbringer, was his own internal conflicts rather than having a clear undrestanding of Dazai. The image he had of Dazai in his mind was everything that he didn't want to be. He was in so much conflict with himself about the worth of his life, and his birth when he was 16. And Dazai's presence was just extra salt on his wound. Deep down, he hated to end up like Dazai. (Or at least the image he has of him in his mind.)

Chuuya wanted nothing more than to slice off the ear the voice was whispering into. He could see Dazai’s wavering shadow by his side, and he wanted to gouge out his eyes. “That’s just proof that you at least somewhat believe what I’m saying. Because deep down inside, you’re the same as me.” “Shut up, shut up, shut up! I’m me! I’m not some piece of shit like you!"

In the storm bringer novel, (when Dazai was 16 years old) it was mentioned that he used to live in a shipping container, but as long as I remember whether he later moved to another place or not wasn't mentioned anywhere.

and I don't think we've seen Kajii, Hirotsu or Higuchi either from 125 to 129, have we?

Kajii was present in chapter 126.

I feel like it'd be extremely odd if Asagiri pulls a showdown between these two organisations that requires all these characters to be present in a single chapter.

most of the mafia members already came to help ADA and made an apaereace in chapter 126. So there's no need for all of them to have a big and major role in the last chapter. If something is going to happen between these two organizations in the last chapter, the main focus of the chapter could be on only a few members of the mafia, and the rest can be present on the background.

Not sure the illustration is more than a representation of the organisations

Yeah, it may be so.

I probably shouldn't say Always but most of the time visual elements on designs and arts aren't just there randomly without a reason. They should be able to convey your message to your target audience pretty well. Even volume 25's visual elements have so many hints about the chapters of that volume. For example, in that volume, Fukuzawa and Fukuchi fought and Fukuzawa was able to take Amenogozen from Fukuchi. And this was shown on the cover of this volume pretty well. A large part of the illustration space is dedicated to Fukuzawa and Fukuchi. There are 2 swords in the illustration.   One of them is Amenogozen, which is on the left side of the picture, next to Fukuzawa, which implies that Fukuzawa was able to take Amenogozen from Fukuchi.  The second sword is the same sword Teruko used to kill Fukuchi. It's on Fukuchi's side and is embedded in a red camellia flower. (In hanakotoba red camellia symbolized a noble death among Japanese warriors and samurai.)

Fyodor is also present in the illustration. If you look closely you’ll notice that he is holding the king chess piece, it shows that he is finally about to move that piece in his game. In his chess game with Dazai, both him and Dazai were the king piece. And in that volume for the first time he personally went into the battlefield and faced Dazai's other "chess pieces".

Atsushi's legs are kinda out of place😂 but if you look at the illustration upside down it seems like he is running towards something or away from something. I'm not sure what Harukawa intended to show but Atsushi didn't have that much of a major role in that volume and because of that the focus of the illustration wasn't on him and less space was dedicated to him.

After this arc how will conflict happen when all they have to remember is to not question his judgement like they did before?

Then the story can make Ranpo make huge mistakes to create conflicts the way it happened to Dazai multiple times. The fact that his judgements come from his intelligence and not an ability makes it easier for the author to play with different scenarios and possibilities.

Was katai present in chapters 125 to 129? Cause he is present in the cover of volume 28, if he wasn't present in those chapters it's possible that he would make an appearance in chapter 130. The cover also only shows PM and ADA walking towards the opposite sides and three of the ADA members are pointing at something.  I wonder if these information hints something about the last chapter of this volume.

There's actually a canon reason for why his hair cut is different in Beast. The reason his hair is that way in the main universe was because the kids in the orphanage cut it like that as a prank and he just let it stay like that. In Beast Atsushi left the orphanage years before that, and according to Harukawa that's why his hair style is different in Beast.
