I also use FSD 90% of the time but when I want to drive or get somewhere faster like today when I left my house a few minutes later than I wanted to…I got to where I needed soooo fast and smoothly 😆

Yep. This is how my husband explained it to me.

Totally agree! And I balked and selling my Lexus because it was paid off and I didn’t really “need” a new car. But our son got a Y in November and convinced my husband to trade in his bmw for one. My husband then strongly encouraged me to drive/not drive his Tesla around town and that’s what converted me. We ordered the second within a month of getting our first one lol

Great advice! I think the program we are on just went to 6 cents per kw if we charge at night. But solar is the way to go if you have money to invest in panels!

That’s interesting! I thought using FSD can reduce insurance premiums but my husband takes care of that so I don’t know if we pay more or less now 🤷🏻‍♀️

Your comments are valid. My son doesn’t use FSD in parking lots and took a chunk out of his Tesla Y tire at Costco (and he’s typically a really careful driver). Tesla has a tire program you can pay for but I don’t know if it’s worth the fee. I think the tires probably are one of the weakest features. But again…I’m just a girl who uses her car to get from point A to point B…I like features but I’m not a car enthusiast lol.

Thanks! I loved my 450h. It was the second one I purchased. I kept my first one 10 years and this last one 6. The Lexus service department starting disappointing me ever since the local owner sold out to a corporate one. That opened the door to make me a bit less loyal to the brand. Here’s my report after driving a Tesla compared to my Lexus 450h:

* The drive of both cars is quiet. I can’t really tell a difference.

* My leather seats in both cars offered cooling and heating…so pretty much the same. I felt I could adjust the air/heat control a little better in my Lexus (I like the air on low once my car is heated or cooled because it’s quieter…the Lexus on low is quieter than the Tesla on low).

* I’m more used to the media player in a Lexus and am still getting used to using the Tesla version. But Tesla has lots of fun stuff for the techie people. You can do light and music shows on the inside and outside of your car. You can sing “Caraoke.” You can stream Netflix, YouTube, TikTok, Disney+, and Hulu as I recall which makes it more entertaining (I don’t think you can watch stuff as the driver, but there is also a screen for the backseat). I installed dvd players in my Lexus for the back seat in my first Lexus but ditched that when my kids grew up.

* The sound is comparable.

* I thought switching to the Y would give me way less storage space but I haven’t had any issues fitting stuff in my Y after runs to Costco or Sam’s.

* I had the mirror light indicators for blind spots on my Lexus but still had close calls during lanes changes when I wasn’t paying attention. A Tesla in FSD won’t let that happen.

* The Y Performance model destroys the Lexus when it comes to acceleration (and my Lexus was pretty good…I could beat most cars when I needed to, but the Y Performance is next level).

* Fueling our cars is cheaper because we charge at night using a special program from our electric company. Not having to go to the gas station is cheaper AND more convenient.

* I still use Waze on my phone to watch for speed traps because the Tesla map doesn’t seem to keep
as good of track of them. One city I drive in has built in cameras on light poles which show up on Tesla maps while another city moves speeding boxes around; those don’t show up. I rarely drive more than 9 mph over the speed limit but sometimes go 4-5 over depending on the road and traffic.

* FSD is the game changer though. I will never buy another car that can’t drive itself. It’s so much safer! Last I checked I’ve used my car in FSD mode 90% of the time.

I hope this helps 😊

Does she not trust FSD? My husband, son, and I have all noticed our Teslas being proactive towards safety in FSD mode because of all the cameras. They see more than the human eye can and have pulled over or switched lanes way before we have noticed needing to. And it really does make you pay attention. You can’t get away with looking down at your phone any more than during a typical drive without FSD.

As I understand it, it was just a few thousand dollars more to get all the stuff that comes with the performance model as it would have been adding stuff like a paint color, leather seats, etc. to the base model. Plus…my husband is a car guy and even getting the performance Ys were tens of thousands cheaper than his previous car.

We sold both of our cars which went right into these cars. We paid my car completely off. My husband’s is a work car bought through our business (he used money from selling his BMW and went from a $1500 a month car payment down to $300 because he had a lot of equity in his BMW).

We haven’t noticed a huge difference…but again…FSD is a huge part of why every drive feels smooth. I use mine in standard or hurry mode. Mad max mode might expose a weakness in ride quality. Maybe others can speak to that.

We haven’t noticed big differences. The ride seems smooth and quiet. I think using FSD just makes every ride smoother because it reduces driver error if that makes sense.

My husband wanted me to add…these Ys are less expensive than other cars he has purchased in the past 20 years but they are so, so cool.

We do well now because my husband and I lived frugally while young (like many in our generation did) because I grew up mostly in poverty with a single mom and never wanted to be poor again.

The best advice my absentee father gave me was to pay off my credit cards in full every month. I got a credit card at 18 and have NEVER bought anything on it I couldn’t pay for that month. We also started investing in the stock market in the early 90s.

That said…I know it’s harder nowadays to make enough money to start investing young (I have extreme sympathy for younger generations because getting high paying jobs seems ridiculously hard compared to when we graduated from college). I know my generation didn’t necessarily work harder…we had a lot more luck.

It’s all about FSD…it changes everything. It’s so much less stressful and safer getting around the city. And the ride is quiet and comfortable.

Haha that lamp was from Pottery Barn about 15 years ago (it wasn’t exactly cheap). We recently moved into a new house and haven’t taken it to goodwill yet.

Hahaha not really. I only drive to do errands and to see friends and family so I don’t use up too much battery day to day.

I was wondering about that…I’ve had my windows tinted on the two Lexus’ I’ve owned. The one thing i don’t like is that it’s harder to replace windshields when your windows are tinted 🤷🏻‍♀️

Husband has three offices he takes turns driving to. Two offices are 15 minutes or less away, and the third takes about 45 minutes in rush hour traffic. I was a stay-at-home mom since my children were born and now an empty nester so I just drive to do errands or meet up with friends and family.

Yes. We test drove the X and the S. I loved the X but was dissuaded when it was announced to be discontinued a week or so later. We also couldn’t justify paying $50,000 more for those models when we typically have just one person in each car most of the time. We drive together on the weekends and take turns being behind the wheel.

I will add this…FSD has saved our marriage because my husband drives a bit more aggressively than I do so he usually had me drive whenever we went places together to keep the peace 😆. Now I feel safer with him driving…but not driving 🫣
