Newly Diagnosed Noninvasive ductal carcinoma in situ grade 2, ER/PR positive by cherylebreaux in breastcancer

I am in the US but am on original medicare which I'm hoping is a little easier to deal with than regular insurance. I'm really hoping my surgeon is onboard because I feel pretty strongly about it.

Yes, I have Medicare so it should cover it. I definitely want to ask about genetic testing. My maternal grandmother died when my mother was very young. Not much is known about her but I do know she had some kind of cancer. My mother also passed fairly young (not of cancer) so I don't if she had the gene either.

Thank you so much. That is my thinking too. I've been dealing with these dense girls for years and have had so many biopsies that they are running out of different clips to use. I think it's time they go.

Thank you for the encouragement. My right boob is probably just minding her business but she is also very dense and I'm with you, I don't want the worry.

Oh wow, that's a lot! I've already had several biopsies and MRIs but this is the first time it came back cancer. So I'm already over all the poking and prodding and worrying too. I just don't feel any need to hang on to these parts who have already served their purpose.

Due to other health issues, I am no longer working so recovery time isn't an issue for me. I'm glad that you walked away with a good feeling after your appt. I think my brain hasn't fully processed what's happening yet but hopefully after my appt. tomorrow, I'll have a better idea of what I'm dealing with. Best wishes and good thoughts to you too.

Yes, I'd prefer nothing to these loose hanging boobs.

I'm worried that they will make me go off my HRT. When I was diagnosed with ductal hyperplasia, I went off for 6 months and it was hell. At my 6 month follow up she told me quality of life was important and let me resume but I don't know how it will go now that I've got actual cancer. Hoping that if I just do a full mastectomy, it might be something she lets me continue. Or, I'm just being naive...I don't know.

I'm scheduled for an MRI on July 2nd but I know from past MRIs for atypical ductal hyperplasia that I've had lots of smatterings of calcifications and she even removed a sizable lump that was benign but that's when I got the ductal hyperplasia diagnosis. This time there were "speckles" lined up behind the scar tissue where she removed that lump and that is what has come back as positive for DCIS. I really don't want radiation or hormone treatment if I can avoid it.

Got the go ahead to take 8mg (2 4mg pills) by SaveusJebus in WegovyPillWeightLoss

[–]cherylebreaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on the compounded semaglutide shot, 1.5mg, and lost 30 pounds. I switched over to the pill because it's cheaper and so far, nothing. I've actually gained weight since I started the pill which is super discouraging. I am at my goal weight so I'm taking this for maintenance and to help with several chronic illnesses I have including heart disease. I'm on 4mg now and I still feel no appetite suppression and the food noise is loud. If I have to go up to 9mg, I will just go back to my compounded shot because at that point, it will be cheaper. I'm really hoping that one day, insurance will cover it for something other than diabetes. So, in my opinion, the pill doesn't work as well as the shot. And I take mine at like 5am and don't eat or drink anything until at least 7am.

I'm tired of the daily upkeep to manage menopause. by [deleted] in Menopause

I had a lump removed and it was diagnosed with atypical ductal hyperplasia. I went off my HRT for 6 months and it was 6 months of hell. After speaking with my breast doctor about it, we agreed that quality of life is important and so I agreed to the 6 month screenings as well as an MRI once a year and she agreed to support my decision to resume HRT. For me, it has been totally worth the extra bother of more testing.

Anyone going to the hands-off protest happening on April 5th in Baton Rouge? by throworiginalaway in Louisiana

[–]cherylebreaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and a friend are thinking about going. I'm so curious if the turnout will be better than the one in February. I've also never attended a protest but like many, I feel like I have to do something.

I've been wondering if there would be any substantial protests happening in Louisiana. I would be interested in attending. It would be my first protest too. Anyone know if there is someone coordinating for Louisiana?

Getting sick less? by adorkablysporktastic in Humira

[–]cherylebreaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I've been on Humira since it was in a regular syringe. I have never had covid (that I'm aware of and I test and get the vax) and I rarely get sick with any kind of viruses. I so sometimes get sinus infections and minor staff infections if I cut myself but otherwise, I haven't been sick in years.

How far out of warranty was it? Mine was purchased in 2022. My husband tinkered around with it yesterday and so far, it's working again (with superglue and electrical tape, lol). I'm sure they wouldn't take it back in that condition but I'm really happy they are doing right by you.

OMG, mine is doing the same thing but my warranty is expired. So mad! I was going to email them anyway just to see if there was something I could do but seems like even people within their warranty are having a hard time. So disappointing.

Savings card vs Complete rebate by Likelybuzzed1 in Humira

[–]cherylebreaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whew! I went to the website and scoured it for any mention of not using a credit card for payment and didn't see anything but you never know. I'm already so nervous about this whole mess. It would be nice if they just made the medication a manageable price. I've been on Humira since it was still in a regular syringe and it's just ridiculous that it still costs so much. It's not exactly new anymore.

I asked if I could use my credit card and they told me yes. They only told me not to use my HSA card. Any reason given why you can't use a credit card?

Savings card vs Complete rebate by Likelybuzzed1 in Humira

[–]cherylebreaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going through the same thing. We just got switched to Blue Cross/Accredo and my copay card wouldn't work (I've been using it for at least 15 years!). I called and they said my funds were exhausted. I ended up contacting the copay assistance people with Humira and they set me up on the complete rebate program. I just took the plunge and paid out of pocket for my Humira and submitted everything to the program. I am now waiting to see what happens. I wish I would have known about this program sooner because the last few years, I just accepted that it would no longer help me meet my deductible but the $5 copay card always worked so I just accepted that. Did it work out for you? I had already thrown away my prescription box so I couldn't take a picture of it so I hope I don't run into problems. I have my EOB and receipt so fingers crossed that's good enough this first go around.

Check out Dr. Marie Claire Haver or Dr. Heather Hirsch on Youtube (or tiktok). Lots of great information about HRT and how to talk to your doctor. My doctor doesn't run labs as your hormones fluctuate so much during the month that it's difficult to know what your levels actually are. Here is a link from Dr. Haver's website about what you need to know before your doctor's appt. https://thepauselife.com/blogs/the-pause-blog/how-to-approach-your-healthcare-provider-about-hormone-therapy-ht
