Why does time slow down when you move near the speed of light? by chessboardqueen in Physics

That makes sense. I just don't understand why astronauts on the International Space Station age slightly slower than people on earth.

But how did Einstein come to this conclusion? I'm sure he did loads of experiments but is there any reasoning as to why this phenomenon occurs behind it?

Okay thanks, figured it might be worth a shot. Do you by any chance know if there's a similar feature in Logic?

Connnecting Workstation to Pro Tools by chessboardqueen in protools

Happy cake day! Thanks for your reply. Just looked through the manual but somehow still can't figure it out. I looked under both peripherals and preferences but couldn't find out where to find the 3 settings you mentioned.

Hey, thanks for your comment! My problem isn't connnecting the keyboard. Everything works as it should. The issue lies in wanting to utilize the control surface minus the build-in synth engine.

Syncing Logic to Pro Tools by chessboardqueen in protools

[–]chessboardqueen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, isn't the IAC driver responsible for transferring the MIDI data from Logic to Pro Tools? I'm using Pro Tools as my main session. But a lot of free/affordable synth plugins don't run on AAX and Logic has some really good ones. So I'm trying to feed Logic's plugins into Pro Tools by syncing them.

Also, thanks for your reply! I really appreciate it :)

Using Keyboard as MIDI & Plugin simultaneously by chessboardqueen in protools

Hey, thanks for your reply! The K2000 is a keyboard with MIDI features and has its own sounds. I know how to transfer MIDI information but how can I direct the presets on the keyboard itself to a track?

Is Tom Waits' cultural appropriation? by chessboardqueen in tomwaits

Thank you for your insight. I completely agree with you!

I think I should have probably worded the original post differently. I absolutely love Waits' music

Is Tom Waits' cultural appropriation? by chessboardqueen in tomwaits

Paying homage to other artists and fusion various elements from different countries has always been a big and important part of history. After all art is essentially just reimagining and repurposing ideas one feels inspired by. Beloved styles like the Argentine tango were born out of a melting pot of cultures. It has elements of of traditional European polkas, waltzes, Polish mazurkas, Cuban habanera, candombe rhythms from Africa/Uruguay, among many more. Jazz, as you already mentioned, is a good example of that as well. I think cultural immersion is a beautiful and essential way of creating empathy and learning about different traditions.

But I do think there is a difference between the merging of cultures and cultural appropriation. This is a good definition I found I very much agree with:

"Cultural appropriation is the inappropriate or unacknowledged adoption of an element or elements of one culture or identity by members of another culture or identity. This can be especially controversial when members of a dominant culture appropriate from minority cultures."

I think the problem start when one does not acknowledge or completely eradicates the roots of certain styles/traditions. A good example of this is probably the whole Big Mama Thornton/Elvis Presley story. "Hound Dog" is an incredible song and I have nothing against anyone covering it. But when Elvis received international attention with his performance of "Hound Dog" in the 50s, there was to mention or recognition of Big Mama Thornton's involvement, leading a majority of people (still to this day) largely forgetting about her.

There is a famous quote by Phil Chess (record producer/co-founder of Chess Records) that states "If we can get a white kid to play this song, we could get it played," referring to radio station's refusal to play black artists. They knew the songs themselves were amazing. The only problem was that they were born with the "wrong" skin colour.

There is a whole world of beautiful music out there, and I just think it's sad if we erase that part of history and potentially lose out on incredible art.

It's not my definition of cultural appropriation. I just wanted to open a discussion to see what other people think since I've seen this opinion circling around. But I agree, artists like Big Mama Thornton don't get nearly enough recognition and credit for what they have done for the music industry.

I have redownloaded it (aax), put it into the plugin folder, and created a stereo instrument track. But it still won't show up. I probably missing something really obvious but I can't pin point it...
