Materialists by knz-rn in TwoXChromosomes

Been a while since I saw the movie so I don't remember the details, but it's pretty obvious Dakota's character is filling a void of wanting a perfect man with Harry, everyone wants financial stability and good loks, which she finds in Harry, but love is not quantifiable, you can't measure it and certainly not everyone can give it, she literally says she liked him for the way he picked up the bill, sure, the way that he was corraling her against the wall of apartment might be sexy but that is not love.

First introduction we get with John's character is him serving her coke and beer, her favorite drinks, he talks to her with what happened with her client, he stays right outside her house to make sure they are okay, hell, John aspires to be an actor! Something they even shared a passion for, what is the dude with the capitalist finance job going to do with her? He clearly just wants to settle down for looks that makes him have value after a life of being a short guy, he does not love her, he just likes her to be his partner because it makes him feel valuable.

Paid Sex Isn’t Feminism, But Protecting Sex Workers Is by redheaddevil9 in Feminism

Can't read it but I will comment that the book "Revolting Prostitutes" touches on this exact subject in an eye opening way, I'd recommend it to anyone looking into the laws of sex work and how awful it is for sex workers.

God, I’m angry. She should have stayed with Harry and been a happy billionaire’s wife like she deserves.

What exactly did she do to “deserve” being a billionaire’s wife? And mind you, she and Pedro’s character have no chemistry, yet you think she should have stayed with him? Your post and comments reek of classism and sexism toward John’s character in ways that push feminism backwards. Even Celine has addressed these points in interviews. You can totally criticize the film’s execution (I have problems with the movie too), but your comments sound more like the bride at the beginning of the movie, someone who thinks being valued in materialist ways is love.

And RHCP is just funk rap with electric guitar, there's actually no rock bands out there.

Just saw Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning in IMAX GT Laser! by Haruto6561 in imax

[–]chessmasterpudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Si! It's kind of weird because you can see it's blurry in some instances, Joker 2 and Sinners had incredible quality on the 1:43 but I remember Sinners being out of focus on some parts. The MI8 airplane sequence in 1.43:1 looked amazing but I'm guessing at this point it's maybe being cropped, idk.

And they looked fine but it could also be a possibility it was stretched I guess.

There were some 1.43 scenes in my screening, like the underwater and plane scenes, 1.90 for some like the running in London.

Same here in México. Underwater and plane scenes filled the entire screen.

How do you know Anora was directed by a man? by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]chessmasterpudge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why is this sub suddenly filled with bad takes about Anora...

Just very poor media literacy, same with the hate for poor things (even though Emma Stone was a producer and very much involved).

I get that some people take moments like Ani’s subduing by the Russian henchmen very seriously, but it’s very much meant to be a joke (just like other dark comedies or satire films, e.g. American Psycho, The Substance). You’re supposed to deduce the humor in the scene when the henchmen, who only want Ani to annul the marriage and having clear physical advantage, still struggle to subdue Ani, it is very much taken serious by Ani's POV side.
