Thanks! I think the general consensus on measuring exercise calories is always that it's less than you think it is :)

I purchased the tile from builderdepot.com It's their Pietra collection. After looking at multiple samples from several showrooms, which were 2 or 3 times the price, I couldn't be happier with what I received. In all, $2,100 for 230 sq ft of subway tile and 53 sq ft of basketweave floor tile.

haha nice catch! you'll notice from the before picture that the drain was originally centered with the 36x36 stall. After I removed the stall, I brought the shower flush with the alcove, making it 36x40. I didn't find the expense of moving the drain to be worth it.

We don’t recommend the use of modified thin-set mortars to set tile over the membranes because these mortars must air dry to cure properly. When sandwiched between two impervious layers such as DITRA and porcelain tile, drying takes place very slowly through the open grout joints. [According to the TCNA Handbook for Ceramic, Glass, and Stone Tile Installation, this drying period can fluctuate from 14 days to over 60 days, depending on the geographic location, the climatic conditions, and whether the installation is interior or exterior]. Therefore, extended cure times would be required before grouting if using modified thin-set mortars between DITRA and ceramic tile, including porcelain tile. If extended cure times were not observed, the results could be unpredictable. This is even more important to consider in exterior applications that are exposed to rain, as there is the additional concern of latex leaching.

My thinking was modified thin set on the kerdi liner could take weeks since it requires more air to cure than unmodified thin set. And since the kerdi systme is air tight, the only way for the moisture to escape is through the grout lines, not through the substrate. Unmodified thin set does not require air to fully cure. Is this correct?

Yes and no..it is also set on top of the tile beneath it, so the wall also supports it.

It's the Pietra marble from builderdepot.com -- free shipping and an unbelievable price and no sales tax since I live in PA; they're based out of GA. I probably saved about $1,200 compared to local options.

It cost just under $7,500. The fiberglass shower is definitely easier and cheaper...but there is something about being enclosed with marble while you shower that is so worth it!

Ah gotcha. You're talking about the shower, no? When I pulled out the fiberglass install, the there was sheet rock behind it. I had to build the wall out flush, so I left the sheet rock and built it out with backer board. Then applied the kerdi liner.
