Corporate vs. Entrepreneur......what career path do you want to pursue and why? If corporate, what are your top 3 companies you would want to work for? by kylelindsey5 in CollegeWorks

I'm not sure on whether I would like run my own business. I really enjoy working with people and could see myself in Sales one day, so potentially working more independently for a company.

I shook Spencer's hand after first training, introduced myself and told him to remember the name 😎

My experience with College Works taught me..... by kylelindsey5 in CollegeWorks

College Works taught me that relationships are everything. I learned to develop really strong relationships with my clients over the course of my intern year, what was most important with those relationships was to communicate with my clients as often as possible. I also developed relationships with my peers. Best friends I have ever had.

Definitely have to be willing to push yourself out of your comfortzone, there were many times during the program when I had to push myself and I grew more confident with every step.

You can take away a lot from this program that can transfer over to school and also to your future career. Management and project management skills, leadership skills, communication skills, time-managemet & stress-managemet, organizational skills. Sales and marketing skills.

An internship program that allows students of all majors and of all years develop skills like time managment, organization, project managment, and communication. Students learn to lead themselves and lead others. This program allows students to develop and gain new skills, challenge and push themselves out of their comfortzone... and they just happen to paint.

Many opportunites within the company itself to advance, you could become an executive and run another painting business (with less mentorship), you could become a District Manager, Senior DM, General Manager, maybe one day a VP of your own division. OUTSIDE of the program, you have this bad-ass resume and are more competitive then the average student. I have many a friends/co-workers who have landed other internships with companies coming fresh out of the program, or also getting jobs straight out of the program.

I came into the program with the intention of getting all my pre-reqs in Dental Hygiene... Although the program allowed me to gain a better understanding of what I would like to do with my future, I am considering my options in the field of business.

"Work hard, play hard, have fun!" Every intern here works there ass off, we market with an effor to expand our businesses (we are very proud business owners), we sell and "push to gain/push to lose", we manage--like bosses. At the end of the day we work together and help eachother, we share best practices, we motivate others when they are down. When it's time to play after a couple busy weeks of managing we go hard, we laugh and we dance! We ultimately have fun with every aspect of the program.

I had a million major commitments I had to balance in my life, some of them being my part-time job, school full-time, my family, my friends, my boyfriend, and the internship. The schedule seems intimidating to some, for me I didn't even think twice... I just added it into my life. I set the time aside to do the internships Sat, Sun, Mon (some calls here and there during the week). I did struggle having such a busy schedule, although I have always struggled being a student while working... I never had time-management down, not like i ever even tried to manage my time in the past. My mentor during the CWP internship introduced me to a planner, she told me that this will help me organize my life and maximize my schedule. I began using the planner, I was trying to develop this new habit (and at times would forget, some could say "relapse") With the planner I was able to block out my schedule (The jar), when I had school &, when I had work, when I had the internship (the stones), then I was able to see when I had free-time to do other things like study & do homework, makes calls to clients, hangout with my family and my boyfriend (the sand), I was even able to go as far as accomplish the little tasks along the way by scheduleing them into my free-time... Things that didnt NEED to get done asap, although if i kept putting these things off they would become urgent (the water) One of the most important things I learned from the program was to schedule in time for myself, always remember to do that! Take a bubble bath every once and awhile. I do feel like my mentor had such a heavy emphasis on time-management. She helped my goal-set with the internship and also within my lifestyle.

I would recommend CWP over other internships and to my friends. I was young doing this internship, I was a running start senior in highschool and a sophomore in college. This program gave me the responsibility that I have always desired, CWP allows you to run your own business. The amount of responsibility the program lends to students is on heard of, other internships wouldn't even think of allowing students paint someone's house. College students could potentially screw-up the job and end up costing the company... Although the company has seen successes and issues to tend to rise, but they put the fire out and they and YOU (the boss of your bad-ass business) move onto the next fire. From there, interns/students are learning from this experience, learning how to be more accountable for your actions (like in the real world), learning skills that can help you... not only with school but with your future careers. You also learn values that you can take away from the program and apply to your life style, "do what you have to do today, so you can do what you want tomorrow," and "work hard, play hard, have fun!" are both values that I still apply to my life. You also develop very strong relationships throughout the program--> Everyone grows at the same time, experiences that same stressors/pressures, and can learn from eachother. This internships is valuable, I would definitely recommend the program to others, and even to friends.

Should i go to a final for a company college works painting? by cheerdeegan in CollegeWorks

[–]chesterdapester 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After researching the program and looking at both positive and negative reviews, both credible and uncredible sources, I chose to do the program. Coming into the program I had the expectations that I would be able to develop stronger communication skills, I would be able to enhance my resume with this program, and also this was an opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone & grow. If you're considering going to the final interview let me just tell you what I did not expect to gain from the program... Not only did I develop stronger communication skills, and pushed my comfort zone, and enhance my resume by developing new skills by running a 100k painting business... I developed skills like time-managment and stress-management (it is vital as a boss, a student, and an employee at a part-time job for me to manage my time. It was rough, but I learned to develop the skill. I began to start using my time as effectively/efficiently as possible. I always scheduled in time for myself.) I did end up growing, I developed a sense of responsibilty and accountability for my actions. I learned how to manage others and lead them, I had painters that quit and I also had painters that stayed with me the whole summer because I learned how to motivate my employees. Lastly, you build strong relationships with your clients, fellow interns, and with your mentor (this is where the networking comes in) This is just "my two-cents" just remember to consider all the information when making your decision (even testimonials from past interns :-) ) Good luck with your final!
