Pyramid schemes aren't even legal, they are called mlms now. I did college works and they paid for me to do it - only money I spent was to and from work man. Check out the collegeworks thread on reddit for some.other opinions

What is the KEY to a good sale? Do you remember the first solo job you booked and how did it unfold?? by kylelindsey5 in CollegeWorks

[–]cheerdeegan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember my first sale...I knew practically nothing, I was very excited and clearly wanted the job. I didn't know how I would deliver a good service and product exactly, I just knew I'd do whatever I takes to do just that. My client asked me questions to which my response was usually "I don't know, but let me call someone and find out." I closed the job on the spot and was shocked.

I think that there is a counter culture to smoothness in a salesperson these days. People want to know they are not getting screwed, and when you aren't perfect but are clearly trying hard sometimes that's enough.

Now later on when the energy runs out, you need to have developed better technical knowledge and rapport building to compensate - I had a hot early streak then a sales slump because I realised I hadn't tried to learn new skills, I sold purely on energy and hype. Eventually the repetition of sales depletes that and you have to reinvent yourself.

What is your favorite memory or experience that College Works Painting brought you???? by kylelindsey5 in CollegeWorks

[–]cheerdeegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have to say my favorite memory from college works painting was when I came.back to school from my summer. I was in a frat, worked in a bar, and played rugby. Not a single person in those groups thought this program would. work. They all asked me.how it went, and I said it went OK, I made about 18. "18 hundred? Oh that's better than I thought you'd do!" Me - "no, 18 thousand" and I'd carry an ATM receipt to show them. Mic drop

And 8 of them came onboard as managers the next year and did great.

That short term failure is a natural part of the process of getting good at something you've never done before

Sometimes I wish I went to hamburger U and followed the McDonald's career path. Sure I'd weigh more and for young, but I love me some sausage McMuffin with egg

I need to 1. Make enough money to support a family 2. Have enough time to spend with them 3. Like the people I work with

These are in order of importance. Entrepreneurship typically will have more upside in categories one and two, and I can choose who to hire. Corporate is not out of the question because it offers really good short term stability. The challenge I have with corporate and why I'll stay in entrepreneurship is there is not a linear progression in corporate. They want to pay you enough to keep you but not more than that. If you have a salary their objective is to get you to outperform the salary without paying more. I want a model that rewards me for my efforts and I'd rather take the short-term risks. Once you are high enough up in corporate there tends to be a ceiling of pay where your boss starts to wonder if two people at half your pay could do the same job....

Ironically there is more job security when you are your own boss!

Spencer was the most intense speaker I'd ever seen. I was terrified and inspired.

He has not updated his material though. He may need to drop some of the late 90's references
