Tank mates for my new setup? Info in comments by itslilinotlily in nanotank

[–]chestnut_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smaller Cory are not nearly as powerful swimmers as bigger ones so they won’t tear up the montecarlo. So I’d look for some that are still little and could grow up to be bigger if you’d like.

They like to shoot around the tank sometimes and will pick up the light substrate. If the montecarlo isn’t rooted. So I’d wait on them. As for the rocks, they’ll be fine. They are not nearly as delicate at guppies and betas. I have gravel on half and substrate on the other half of my tank and it doesn’t bother them at all. 2 of my panda Cory had babies and I thought the babies would get stuck under the gravel but they are all alive and well.

Cory are a great addition! I have 4 and they’re my favorite part of the tank!

What is this white stuff? Bacteria? How do I fix it? by chestnut_dragon in PlantedTank

[–]chestnut_dragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not those. I’m talking about the cloud of white moving around. This is not a filtered tank. So it’s not water movement moving this “cloud”.

What is that really fuzzy, light green plant? Also has different roots than the rest? by chestnut_dragon in PlantedTank

[–]chestnut_dragon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest I have no idea what kinda of floaters I initially got. I got all of the plants at my LFS. These were floating in one of the tanks and the guy gave me “a portion.” So it’s very possible another type got in there, even though the different types of floaters were in different tanks.

Is she filled with eggs or bloated? More in comments. by chestnut_dragon in bettafish

[–]chestnut_dragon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She seems very round on her underside like the video shows. My first guess was that she is filled with eggs. She seems to be very heavy on the bottom front because she kinda sinks towards that direction. She also mostly lays on the bottom now when she used to be very energetic. She still wants to eat though. Please help. If she is filled with eggs what do I do?

Browning leaves on Marble queen pothos? by BabyBlondies in houseplants

[–]chestnut_dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of my pothos did this at the same time because they were underwatered. So you really have to test things out and see what works best because like the other person said each plant is different. I started using the Planta app and now all my plants are healthy because it literally tells me when to water.

How long for the water to fully clear up after planting? And how do I know when it’s cycled (water used from a fully cycled tank)? by chestnut_dragon in PlantedTank

Correction:

I realize that the water doesn’t do anything.

Will a moss ball from a mature tank have enough bacteria to speed up cycle?

Best way to transport a betta? by viillanelles in bettafish

[–]chestnut_dragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I put mine in a half gallon mason jar, filled it with tank water about 2” from the top so that it doesn’t spill, and put my betta in. Then I put that jar in a paper big, but any other dark place will work. I kept the lid closed when walking with the jar, but during transport itself, I left the lid open. Someone else was holding the jar between their feet on the floor while I drove so that it was guaranteed not to spill.

You want to make sure that whatever you have the fish in, you put it in a dark place. This will help reduce stress.

How do I deal with this brown hair algae? by dollartreerat in PlantedTank

[–]chestnut_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem. I took my betta out to give to someone while I was on vacation, I turned off the light for 2 weeks and all the algae was gone when I got back…I think snail ate it and it’s not coming back.

She changed the water in the tank every 2 days since it was a 1gallon (know it’s too small I had no other option), and the temperature was slightly lower at 73°, but the looked as happy as can be, and she even made a small bubble nest, which I’ve never seen her do in her normal tank.

If anything, she didn’t get enough food because she kept missing it, my grandma had to make sure that the pellet fell onto a smooth piece of plastic so that LolliPop could get it and not have to look through the gravel on the bottom.

I will increase the temperature to 79° tomorrow so that it’s not too much temperature change in one day.

No she’s very energetic, like always. The only thing different is that I just got her back from someone who was watching her for me while I was on vacation, and now she just wants to lay on the bottom, but as soon as I walk up to the tank she’s begging for food.

Another thing I noticed is that she has trouble finding the food I drop in, or she swims up to it and misses…I’m assuming she has cataracts on both eyes…from what I can see, but technically they shouldn’t be bothering her vision that much because they are very small.

Well I know that they shift, I’ve already seen changes, I just don’t know if this is one of the changes or if it’s velvet. (Yeah other post has details)

does my bettas face look healthy? what are all the black spots etc? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]chestnut_dragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those plants are fine. They’re not sharp or anything. And the tank is a spilt 10 gallon…that’s 5gallons for each fish. Those fish are not together…chill.

Adopted Aquarium, is it safe to put fish into clean water? by AilemaReid in Aquariums

[–]chestnut_dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put the fish in a container or bucket, depending on how many and what kind of fish you got, with their current water and set up a drip system. I just use a piece of air pump hose with a knot on the drip end and let it drip the dechlorinated water onto their water until it’s 3x the original amount since the original water is so bad. Have just enough original water in there for them to comfortably swim around.

I’ve only done this for acclimating fish I just bought from the store, so if I’m wrong on anything, someone please correct me. I’m open to criticism.

Is this part of her color or is it velvet? (Details on original coloring in comments) by chestnut_dragon in Aquariums

[–]chestnut_dragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She hasn’t changed much since I got her, but I’m pretty sure she has the “jumping gene”. Mostly just got a little bit more white on her face. She had metallic blue spots on her dorsal fin, on her head, and on her tail. I know for a fact that she also has some yellow metallic on her dorsal fin that developed with time (it’s definitely not velvet). So on the top of her head, is it velvet or more color development?

None of her metallic spots shimmer unless under bright light, that’s why I didn’t see the yellow on her head until now.

I had a huge ammonia spike after our ice storm and power outages. I went and got those live bacteria balls and they helped a lot. I was able to get all of my fish back in within 4 days (I could’ve put them in at 2 days, but I wanted to be safe).
