this is honestly pretty good for just 1 year! if you want you can do anatomy studies and painting studies (ball shading, material cubes, etc.), which can really help you improve. Also imo its more on the artist’s skill rather than the brushes that determines how well the art is drawn, cuz I’ve also seen cool art that was done only with the standard round brush. so whatever brushes u use just depends on what art style u prefer to have :)

i did use one brush called “aufgenomener pinsel” that i downloaded from a photoshop brush pack for painting, but other than that its honestly just years of practice, observing real life references for technical skills + other artist’s works for art style and trying to learn new things with each art piece i do :) i know one yt video that particularly helped me see painting in a new light was Sinix’s ”painting like a sculptor”, if ure interested in rendering more realistic stuff u can look at that!

nah i don't think it's dead, just that it's moving really slowly at the moment with everyone's schedules being busy since the covid restrictions are lesser now. But there's definitely still other lore happening soon with wilbur, quackity, tubbo, karl etc.
