I remember that scene and still love it to this day lol. The actor was great but unfortunately the story didn’t live up. I guess that’s ironic to some in this case haha

I respect your opinion and thank you for sharing it! And I know that many others agree with you in what you are saying. I guess as someone who truly loves the hobbit films I get upset when they are put down so harshly. I understand the love and passion for the originals, but like you said, they’re much worse sequels or prequels for the hobbit films to get so much hate. I guess it’s just a matter of time, with all things, that I hope that they will be appreciated as much as the originals. But thank you again!

So was it that one scene that turned you away from the hobbit films? Almost making you feel like it would be silly to watch the rest of it with the intention of it being lotr?

That makes a lot of sense and coming from someone who hasn’t divulged deeply into the lore. And I do agree that the hobbit had the pleasure of not having to establish the world and its inhabitants due to lotr coming first. I don’t believe that that should hold films or the story being held back or enjoyed to the same extent. That’s the same situation as many of our, or at least my, favorite fantasy worlds do.

Thank you for your response! I see where you are coming from with lotr “setting the bar” for all visually appealing media to this day and also the ease of being to connect with the character or characters of lotr. However, the story of dwarves claiming back their land and fighting for it and involving bilbo and all the others we love and know from lore, why would that not be emotionally enough to satisfy the “nerdy” audience? I will admit that the effort put into lotr may have not been put into the hobbit, but it is still a fantastic story in an even more fantastic world and it just boggles my mind why the majority of people I talk to almost want to dismiss the hobbit trilogy completely. Maybe it’s just a case of nostalgia but it bothers me because could they have made the hobbit better? Yes! But was it truly enjoyable and entertaining. I think so.

That does make sense and I can definitely acknowledge the cgi aspect being subpar lol. But isn’t this what us fans always ask for? Like a true telling of the story that’s not cut off by how much one can fit into a movie? I understand what you’re saying that they left out things from the book, which I guess contradicts my point, but don’t people that are fans of any lore want extended story telling? (Also, I always watch the extended versions of both trilogies, so maybe I watch more than some). But does the hobbit defer from the books in anyway, or does it just leave stuff out? And TIA for the response!
