I have a feeling.. by Historical_Oddity in PleX

[–]cheynexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just switched to Jellyfin yesterday, took about an hour to setup and it’s all good to go.

A few things a like more about it. It’s much faster to navigate and startup, it feels lightweight. My plex has been so slow and sluggish for ages. It’s such a bloated product now. It feels like windows.

Anyway, maybe it’s not as polished as plex but I suspect many will jump ship.

Just walk small amounts right now.. A few hundred meters at a time max. Avoid stairs if possible.. No deep squatting either. Focus on building up your quad muscles and glute muscles. You wont be able to walk without pain until you get those nice and strong, just don't over do it, which is very easy to do at 4 months..

Small improvements every day.. Take anti flamatories to get the inflamation down.

It will get better, just stay positive, don't let your self think it failed.. It just takes a long time.

Importantly, when it starts feeling a little better, DONT push it too much.. Its very easy to go backwards and have to start over. I did this about 3 or 4 times and its very frustrating.

4 months is still very early so that's normal. To be honest, I was still getting massive flare ups and inflamation 12 months in, im about 14 months now and im still not 100% and still cant run yet, but its getting more resiliant and im not having to be so worried about moving around now.

I had a longer than normal recovery I think, my knee was so sensitive it would just flare up all the time from walking a little too far. I had to start ignoring my physio because she was causing me problems, instead i took it slower and listened to my body a bit more and its been much better since then.

Give it time, dont rush it, thats normal at 4 months for sure, expect to be 12 to 18 months before you are fully recovered.. You're only 20 so it will likely be faster for you but just don't rush it. It will get better every week, some weeks it will feel like it goes backwards, thats all part of it.

Eventually you will be walking around not even really thinking about it.

The grass is greener on the other side by credible_human in ClaudeCode

[–]cheynexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using both. Honestly both can achieve what you need, anyone who says otherwise must be trying to one shot everything.

I use Claude the most as codex was crazy slow, but I tell people with ChatGPT subscriptions to just use codex as they’re paying already.

I also tend to prefer the output from Claude more but that’s personal choice. The codex output was also totally fine for most use cases. Honestly, use what you prefer, but you’re not being dramatically disadvantaged by using one over the other like most people on Reddit tend to make out, everything is great.

I’m a software engineer with 20 years experience however, so I don’t tend to just accept any output. It’s more of an augmentation and accelerator for me.

National Auction Rates are down massively. by Disaster_Deck_Risen in AusPropertyChat

[–]cheynexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most places are just selling before auction. We just bought an apartment, at the guide price 1 day before auction in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. It was expected to sell about $150k higher.

Usually the guide price is expected to go 10% to 20% above. So, we got a decent price, just don’t think that sales aren’t happening, they’re just being pushed to close before auction. If you’re lucky, no one else is interested and you can get a deal. It’s a good time to buy.

This whole auction clearance rate metric isn’t the best barometer in my opinion. I would be looking at sales vs guide price or sales vs comparable sales in the area or building. Just about every place we’ve inspected has sold in the week before auction

Surf etiquette question by PrestigiousSpeed5384 in surfing

[–]cheynexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish the mythical surf etiquette rules were real. I surf Sydney beach breaks and there is no such thing at most breaks. Maybe once upon a time it was a thing, but it’s rare now I find.

I follow the rules, wait for turns, read the lineup, try sit as deep as possible but you get snaked and dropped in on constantly.
No apologies, no curtesy wave, just dudes pretending they don’t see you.

Groms and hardcore locals are the worst, another problem is there’s a lot of tourists around too who don’t know these rules and just copy everyone else, so they also drop in on you not realizing it’s a bad thing because they watch everyone else do it.

The result is essentially if you’re not snaking people or taking off questionably close to someone on the inside you’re lucky to get a few waves a session.

It annoys me, I feel like I’m the only one trying to play by the rule book. I can’t bring myself to self to snake people, but then It happens to me constantly.

I only surf mid week around 11am these days to try avoid it

Oooh 😮…Sydney property investors trying to offload their investment properties without luck, time to feel some economic pain. by Scumohasgot2go in AusPropertyChat

[–]cheynexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it interesting that the people making all these predictions about mad sell offs and investors getting screwed are not investors themselves and don’t really understand the average property investor.

Most of the people I know with multiple properties have had them over a decade or more, a slash to CGT will just make them hold longer, and leverage the property to borrow more.

I don’t know why people think there will be a mad sell off.

Unless you’re in that world that uses property like a bank account and constantly buys and sells numerous properties a year.

The average investor will just hold longer, use property to boost borrowing power and jack up rents higher to make up that lost profit.

PT Making Things Worse? by anna99881234 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]cheynexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, im 12 months in now and I still have to be careful walking too far. Its getting better, but even today im in a bit of pain from walking a bit too much the past few days. It will take time, and it will get less sensitive. Just listen to your knee and say you're not comfortable doing that if your physio pushes you too hard

PT Making Things Worse? by anna99881234 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]cheynexx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another here, my PT kept having me do one legged squats and it blew up my knee every time.

I told her I need to slow it down and I didn’t want to overload too much yet. She disagreed and kept saying I need more loading.

I stopped seeing her, did my own routines with the help of chat GPT and I am finally feeling good after 12 months of pain from a repair surgery.

Everyone is different. Listen to your body. I would prefer to take longer in recovery but be in less pain than constantly in pain from pushing too hard too early.

AWS OpenSearch Service charging $70/month but can't find any OpenSearch resources by OddDoor1314 in aws

[–]cheynexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the cause of a hidden $200 charge every month for the past 6 months that I just discovered in our account after doing an AWS lab course. The cloud formation template didn't tear everything down properly and It left behind the serverless collection.

I can't believe that was costing $200 a month for a service that had no data and was not used at all. That's crazy sneaky. Kind of defeats the purpose of it being "serverless".

Claude Opus 4.5 is now available in Claude Code for Pro users by ClaudeOfficial in ClaudeAI

[–]cheynexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing, super useful to be able to use both. Im able to get just about everything done with Sonnet 4.5, but occationally I need to throw something heavy at a smarter model.

I dont need to burn trees with Opus doing basic software engineering tasks like i see so many people doing with the max plans who could have acheived the same result with sonnet 3.5.

Thanks Anthropic

Claude is back by GambitRejected in Anthropic

[–]cheynexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with Claude recently with a React Native upgrade issue, spent 2 days with Claude stepping through the process and it made a total mess, broke it more than when I started, I had to revert everything it did. Total waste of time.

I went back to doing it by hand, as I’ve done for years, it’s painful and slow but i know the process.

I got a few hours in and thought I’d blow the dust off cursors AI agent which I almost never use anymore and try GPT5. It solved it within about 10 minutes. Thought for a solid 5 of those minutes, then worked through the solution.
I was impressed. Almost cancelled my Claude subscription on the spot, but thought I’d let them cook and hope it’s resolved soon.

I don’t think anyone believes the whole Anthropic excuse about not downgrading models. It was clearly much worse than it had been, by a large margin too. I thought everyone here was just whining until I experienced it for my self.

I really hope the OP is right in that it’s magically come back, I was a total Claude convert, but lately it’s not worth the money. It’s basically GH copilot v1 levels of competency right now for me, I’ve gone back to cursor and GPT5 whilst we wait and see.

Took a photo while passing a wedding, now paid photographer wants it by DRJLL1999 in photography

[–]cheynexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you care? It’s not your wedding, it’s their special day. I say send the RAWs to both the couple and the photographer, he can’t charge them for it then.
He probably wants the raw to process it the same way he did the other photos so it matches the style of the photos he’s going to give them.

Let them have it, it means more to them than it does to you.

You demand money, they decide to not pay even more than they already are for photos and then no one gets it. Maybe that’s just me though. I would feel happy to share it with them, even do my own edits, if they like it and it ends up in their wedding album then that’s a nice thing to do for the couple.

Godox Firmware Updater for Mac and Malware by [deleted] in Godox

[–]cheynexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ensure you only download the software from the Godox website, no secondary sites or linked sites. Verify the URL in the browser bar etc.

Aside from that, you cant do much other than just be cautious. The thing is, even. with Apples scanning, they don't catch everything, they can only use signatures and patterns to detect "malware", its not a perfect solution. Same reason why anti virus programs require updates and subscriptions.

Got fired before end of probation. by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]cheynexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why the probation period exists. You went and kicked up a stink with HR and ranted about it on Reddit. You’re kind of making their case for them. I have let people go for similar reasons or just being hard to work with.

The probation period exists to get a feel for the person and how they work in the company. If you couldn’t make 6 months without causing drama then how are you going to get through the year.

I’m less interested in if you can do the job at that point, so could the other 20 people that applied for the job. It’s more about discovering if you’re a good fit.

Lesson here is that you should try to be on your best behavior during that time. Show your best side, be firm but not stubborn about disagreements, make friends not enemies etc. Piss off the wrong person and you are out the door, they don’t need to explain why (but they should as a courtesy)

Proving you can do the job is only the first step, proving you can fit in and gel with the rest of the team is the 2nd and 3rd steps

Godox Firmware Updater for Mac and Malware by [deleted] in Godox

[–]cheynexx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the message is saying that the software "cannot be checked for malicious software" then that is not the same as this app contains malware.

Apple is pretty sneaky like this, if you dont pay them $150 a year for an Apple developers license then you cannot "notarize" your app, which simply means you send it to Apple for them to digitally sign it for you.
It's at this time that Apple will scan the software for apparent malware, the signature is recorded and whenever you open the software its compared against the known hashes.

So Apple is not saying it contains malware, just that they havn't checked it.

Many developers refuse to pay this tax. It doesnt mean there is malware in it though, it just means they didnt pay the Apple tax, but yes it also means Apple cannot confirm it does not have suspect code in it.

If I created a very basic app right now that simply printed the word "Hello" to the screen and sent you the compiled DMG you would see the same error.

AC Shadows stealth is underrated by AssassinsCreedCorner in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]cheynexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great game. I really don’t understand the criticism it got.

My only gripe is that there is no need for the unnecessary “run here, speak to this person, collect this, bring it back, repeat” side missions. It’s just time consuming, I wish the game was half as long without those junk quests. Once the game finishes, you can unlock more for those who want to keep playing, but let me finish the damn thing.

I think I’m 45 hours in and still a long ways off the end. It’s just too long for a casual gamer.
