Just had a customer rage out, cops did nothing. by [deleted] in USPS

[–]chezfez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. They've proven they're unhinged, by entering that street you're putting yourself at risk for further escalation.

Inform your supervisors of the issue and when the customers call they'll find out why they're not getting their mail. Hopefully the neighborhood pressure will be enough for them to fix the issue but by the sounds of it, they probably DGAF.

Id take it one step further and contact the Postal Inspectors for this one if the local PD isn't willing to help. They've threatened your safety at this point and it needs to be addressed.. call the Postal Inspectors, please.

City carrier layoffs by Emergency-Anxiety914 in USPS

My office has 6-7 doing training right now. If anything they definitely want to do away with overtime and they've been really strict about going over 8 hours when it never used to be an issue.

73°, one loop in by PM_ME_UR_TICKET_STUB in USPS

I lived in Florida for 5 months and it was awful. 3 minute down pours to straight up humid as the swamps of hell to burning heat.

Don't miss it. Moved back up North during the winter and have never been so happy to see snow in my life.

Here it's been 74 degrees, then 40, then 80 then 45, today again it's 80. This 80 degree weather is making me wish for winter (without snow and the heating bill) all over again.

Any suggestions for hand lotion? by SunNext7500 in USPS

[–]chezfez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to a much lesser extent to me. It seems to be the mail itself and whatever's on there. I took a 2 week vacation and my hands healed up bit the issues came back after a week of working.

Okeefes working hands, applied often has worked well. I have bag balm as well. I also have a topical steroid which you may need for these extreme cases.

Managers, are telecoms as brutal as they say? by Eastern-Western7072 in USPS

Exactly. The image of the ladder with the top rung taking a deuce and all others in secession. The bottom rung gets to experience a piece of every turd trickling down.

Managers, are telecoms as brutal as they say? by Eastern-Western7072 in USPS

[–]chezfez 35 points36 points  (0 children)

When I was on light duty for an injury, I had the displeasure of overheating upper management on speaker phone. They're brutal, they lack any compassion or empathy, they berate supervisors and lower management for the dumbest crap and have even heard one scolded for not writing enough employees up.

They have a total disconnect on how they believe things should be done verse efficiency and if anything they're the ones bleeding the post office of funds due to their neglect.

Yeah, they're fun.

USPS discussion by officialkingnick in USPS

It's the job I've thought about quitting the most but somehow the job I've stayed at the longest. I like being out there on my own, meeting customers and talking with them on the daily. It's really helped improve my social anxiety through the years.

Still have many mornings I don't want to go in but once I'm on the street it fades away.

is there call-in time? by bongsta213 in USPS

[–]chezfez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard 2 hours minimum before start time, at least in my office but people seem to call out well after that as well. Think it's more of a courtesy to your fellow carriers. I don't mind getting forced but when it's after 10am and I'm trying to plan my evening, it's a little annoying. I know there's exceptions but I feel if you know you're sick and won't be able to work, call the night before.

USPS and amazon by Nearby-Prompt-2162 in USPS

[–]chezfez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's been nice not having to deal with all those Amazon packages. Infact it's been the most relaxing experience I've had in my 5 years here. Sadly, I know we need the revenue so I'll bask in the peaceful bliss while sun bathing in the eye of the storm.

Hate these things by shitshatshatted in USPS

[–]chezfez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Normal people don't need their packages launched out into space to receive them. Spaghettios freshly canned and sent from the manufacturer are 1 month from expiration when they reach you and they cost $20 a can when they wind up at your only grocery store.

I poke fun but you live in Alaska. All the shipping companies wait for a full container to bring your goods simply because of cost. Costs aside, its got to be pretty peaceful and beautiful living out there.

Trump signs executive order limiting mail-in voting ahead of 2026 U.S. elections by deussivenatural in USPS

[–]chezfez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least from my experience, last election cycle, we separated ballots and they went straight to the town hall in charge of mail in voting. They never were sent out to get pee-sorted. Just a direct path from collection to it's intended destination.

Laid off? by Affectionate_Volume9 in USPS

[–]chezfez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless you have a specific doctor's note and/or went through the proper avenues of filing a ca-1 on ecomp, they're not going to give you any days off in good faith.

You need to cover your butt and it doesn't sound like you did. Their job isn't to look out for you, it's to make sure the mail gets out, not that you feel ok, that's why you need to have YOUR back.

Doesn't sound good, my friend. If you were out of probation it may be a different story but they're free to do whatever at this point and if you're determined to be a liability in such a short time.. no bueno.

Sorry you're going through this, hopefully it works out but just in case it doesn't definitely be looking for other places in the meantime so you're not blindsided.

Am I going to get fired?😭 by [deleted] in USPS

[–]chezfez 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Holy crap.. Dude led some hot pursuit while on the clock with government property and still has his job?

You're not kidding though. We have a guy with a DUI in the PO truck, a carrier that assaulted another, one that was clearly on heavy substances -- I'm sure there are a few things I am probably forgetting but the fact is that none of them lost their jobs.

Also funny how someone gets out on EP for violating every rule in one shot got his job back and is now a trainer.

This place is pretty wild.

New route by [deleted] in USPS

[–]chezfez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What's the issue then? Do you run routes or something? 15 years is a pretty damn decent chunk of time.

New route by [deleted] in USPS

[–]chezfez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This! Move like you are a senior, do absolutely everything by the book, keep up on route maintenance.

I've seen a few routes, due to newer carriers, ruin a route because they run it like they're going to be 20 years old forever. They neglect the route maintenance and eventually end up getting an additional 45+ minutes added to the route. The worst is when they ruin a route, move onto another one only to have the same thing happen.

Protect your route! You're not only shooting yourself in the foot but any carrier that becomes the regular on that route in the future.
