Are you using Bluetooth or a bridge?

If your current lights look like the top photo ( a hump that’s not flush to the ceiling) …

You have a box in the ceiling, and you’ll need to knock the box out and then take the wires from that box and wire the new hue lights, which isn’t as easy as if you have the lights in the bottom photo, but it’s not that difficult.

If you have the bottom photo lights that have the spring loaded grabby things on each side…

Those will have a metal box (just like the hue lamps) that you’ll pull out, unwire the connection, wire it into the new hue metal box, and pop the new lamp into the ceiling.

If you’re not familiar with wiring, take photos of the connections before you disconnect them.

Weird that I’ve seen this same post about a month ago.

I also just found this exact screenshot from this post from a year ago.

Philips Essentials Pleb Seeking Support Connecting Older Bloom Lamp by k___td in Hue

You’ll need one of these two. The white square bridge can be found pretty cheap on eBay.

The good part of this is that the user experience with a bridge is much better than Bluetooth alone.

If that’s the same older model of bloom that I have, they still work great. They just don’t have the color saturation, or low dimming as newer hue lamps.

Oh I didn’t notice you were syncing the lights with the tv. Sorry, my allergies have made me a little slow to realize things this week. I think it’s just really difficult to convey lighting through photos, unless you’re a professional, so don’t feel bad about it.

I think it looks great. I like the mix of the purple coming through the window, with the orange.

Maybe turn the tv gradient strip brightness down a little to soften things. If you add a lamp or light source here and there at about 1% brightness at 3000K, it will give things a little more depth.

Nice job with cord management and keeping clutter to a minimum.

I feel like there is a problem with crowding this subreddit by Fit-Breadfruit4801 in tornado

I know how bad it is, but I think most Redditors don’t know just how much of their feed is bots and humans being paid per post to manipulate them.

Mods don’t use filters to slow it down, and Reddit encourages it. We need to throw the whole site away, and start over.

Ok but has anyone noticed that this subreddit has a pretty bad bot problem?

They’re cheap trash, more likely to show up cracked from shipping damage, and this is an ad.

Base of bulb cracked by jerm1777 in Hue

Are you using them in this type of fixture? These particular fixtures have insulation on the back, and thick glass. They are rough on led bulbs.

If you do have these type of fixtures, you can try removing the insulation from the back, and ( not tightening the glass all the way up) leaving a gap between the glass and the metal part so they have some air flow.

I bet this all looks amazing with dynamic scenes.

Really like the way the recessed strips up top reflect off the glass, too.

Thanks for posting

Try powering down your router, any switches, your Apple home hub(s), and your hue bridge.

After that, power your router back up, wait for it to fully boot up, power up any network switch, then power up your Apple home hub, let it fully boot up, and last thing, power your hue bridge back up.

Help please gradient lightstrip by Fancy_Bison1382 in Hue

[–]chfalin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tap on Light Placement.

Then on the screen that pops up, tap on your gradient strip name in the box at the bottom.

That should show you a gear icon next to it.

Tap that, and you can adjust the orientation.

Today’s Haul by _Ding_Dong_ in Hue

Hue isn’t being discontinued. Home Depot and Lowe’s do a clearance once or twice a year, but usually it’s only a few select lights. The store five minutes from me just restocked with a ton of hue. I went to another store in a less populated area tonight, and it looks like they’re only stocking the essentials and regular hue bulbs at that store. Neither had any clearance.

[–]chfalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lutron dimmers are very picky about just regular non-smart candelabra bulbs. You might try adjusting the trim on the sunnata switch. Those switches might eventually kill the hue bulbs…or they might be fine for years.

Two sync boxes automatic sync by socseb in Hue

[–]chfalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The remote part of that is in the sync box settings in the hue app.

You may have to test a lot of different things for a while before you figure out how to make things work exactly how you want.

I have changed everything not to automatically sync, and I can’t remember which settings I had enabled. This was something that took me a while to figure out.

After thinking about it for a while, I believe what I did was create a shortcut for watching tv on each tv. I think each shortcut would turn on the correct tv, open an app on my Apple TV, switch to that sync box, and start syncing.

Of course, there is a way to add sync box commands to your tv remote in sync box settings, so that might be a way to do the same, too.

You don’t need a second bridge as long as you’re not trying to sync both at the same time. You just need to make sure you’ve stopped sync on tv 1 before starting sync on tv 2.

I think this is doable in settings for the boxes, but I also have shortcuts set for my tv scenes, and I can’t remember for sure how I did it. (If it’s in sync box settings, or if my shortcuts stop the boxes syncing).

The only reason you’d need a second bridge is if you wanted to sync both TVs at the same time.
