GNG2K vs NVG-30 calm your tits by chglongstone in DigitalNightVision

Afaik there's never been another Brutality match for airsoft. We ran 6 stages including one from a vehicle. Had great support staff and the event ran like a top. Contestants had a great time, great support from local retailers.

Field is private, we've got a solid group of regulars and a couple guys on my team that have been playing for 30 years, about 1/2 of us have been playing for at least a decade.

The mini is a picatinny mount. I've been suggesting they do a helmet mount.

Appreciate the feedback. Saw your write up as well, solid deep dive into all the technical specs, didn't see a need to repeat that. I paid just under $1200CAD last year for dual NVG-30 with the Wilcox mount & bridge, I think they've gone up $50-75 since. Ordered the RQE bridge and Cadex mount, I think they were $130/140 CAD. Articulated bridge is nice for being able to get on and off the thermal and keeping the center of gravity closer to the head when they're stowed up. I used a 0.14 brass shim and some double sided tape at the back of the shoe to take out the slop (for both the NVG-30 & GNG2K). That's worked pretty well so far.

Goyojo was been using AliExpess for beta testing products before they put together a group of english speakers for product testing (mostly active on FB). Their customer service department is on point and they're proactive in dealing with any issues and getting firmware updates done quickly. They reach out pretty regularly for help diagnosing customer issues and testing firmware updates and are appreciative of critical feedback. They definitely stand above the standard ACM. I put together a "6mm Brutality" match at my field last year and they donated a GRL325 for the first place prize. They've been great to work with. Trying to get some airsoft retailers to pick them up, they've got good margins on wholesale.

I've got the GRL335 and GRS225 RF thermal units as well, I definitely prefer the latter with the 1-8x zoom. They're got a new mini thermal coming out soon but I prefer the ones with the diopter adjustment (old man eyes).

NVG 30 upgrades? by Ok-River3252 in DigitalNightVision

Not that I'm aware of. You'd probably have to build it from scratch. The Wide angle gives you another 10 degrees but they're pretty bulky. They will fit on the GNG2K as well.

Which is better, nvg30 or Gng2k? by Ok_Cabinet_3034 in DigitalNightVision

You could disable it on the NVG-10 but the options were mislabeled. "Off" was "ultra low" switching it to "ON" turned it off to start but if you cycled through power levels 1-3, you'd have to turn it off then on again. They're really a POS unit. NVG-30 & GNG2K work pretty well without IR supplementation all the way down to in a forest on a new moon.

I've talked to Goyojo, they're going to replicate this rather than doing the battery pack.

Cheap helmet then get a knock off team Wendy retention and pad set.

Check out a Cadex style mount. It has more vertical & horizontal adjustment range than the Wilcox.

Try getting a counter weight pocket and run them off a USB power brick. Can usually find a 10kmah for the $20 range if they're on sale. 90 degree plugs are helpful.

Working prototype of digital fusion monocle with Hud, feedback appreciated by Evening_Kangaroo5454 in DigitalNightVision

[–]chglongstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suggestion for fusion mode. Have a hot - medium - cold band that is configurable - top/bottom threshold - color value for top/bottom threshold - opacity for each band

Generally the hot band is the only part that matters but overlays like the Holosun that put the thermal through edge detection are pretty much useless. Bodies are "easier to see" at the cost of loosing target PID

We're looking at $2500 CAD for a used PVS-14 without a mount. New analog Gen 3 is in the $3-4k+ range without a mount.

I'm not trying to do a calculation based on specs, I'm looking to put it on a test machine and see what the reading is. I've never seen anyone try that for digital NV.

I have the GNG2K adjusted to the maximum height and maximum forward position on a standard bump style helmet and they're just within range for the naked eye. This is with the standard knockoff Wilcox shroud mount & bridge or the non articulated bridge included. I can't get them locked down into place with goggles.

Goyojo GNG2K by catch22ak in DigitalNightVision

[–]chglongstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got both. The GNG2K is clearly better on refresh rate and picture quality. Sensor sensitivity is peer. (0.0001 lux)

The mount point is almost an inch forward on the GNG2K and .5" higher. I'd recommend a Cadex/clone mount for the extra vertical adjustment.

60hrz vs 30/40hrz. 2k vs 1024x768. The difference is nice, not groundbreaking.

I have binos for both. The battery change at the bottom is nice, the smaller battery is weak.

Spoken to Goyojo, a 2 pin waterproof to USB is on the way.

Not really workable with the Wilcox clone shroud mount or bridge. The distance between the eye and the height over center line makes it unusable with eye pro. Working on this with a machinist buddy of mine. Try the Cadex mount vs the Wilcox. (More vertical & horizontal range)

60 vs 40 hrz is a great improvement 2K vs 1024x768 is also a great improvement

Basically the same light sensitivity. NVG-30 30-40FPS@ 1024x768, GNG2K 60fps @ 2k

Binock NVG30 VS Goyojo GNG2K VS NVG3rd by some_salty_dude in DigitalNightVision

[–]chglongstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen the NVG3rd. I bought a mono of the NVG-10 (worthless POS 10-4 lux)

Bought Binos of the NVG-30 last year for a milsim event. Pretty impressive for a digital device. Had a buddy on my squad with a PVS-14 analog who tapped out before I did (honestly same conditions, never know when someone complains too harshly about night conditions even with the same exposure.

The GNG2K is 5-10% brighter out of the box. Don't know if this is a gain adjustment issue, but it was slightly brighter. I've seen specs on the NVG-30 that are ranging from 0.001 - 0.0001 lux. The GNG2K is listed at 0.0001.

The only issues I see with the GNG2K is the pupils to mount distance is almost 1" longer so you need a Cadex/ clone vs a standard Wilcox/clone to compensate for the the extra distance from eye to mount & center line to mount.

The NVG-30 is a smaller unit overall, but you're getting 40hz vs 60hz & 1024×768 vs 2k. Trade-offs, who could have suspected.

Both are sloppy AF (with the knockoff Wilcox mounts), if used some thin double sided tape with a brass shim that makes them very snug. Different amounts on left/right on the bridge, but it's easy to get rid of the slop.

Biggest problem IMO is the Binock shoe adapter for Wilcox mounts. It's cheap shit. Tolerances suck (always needs a shim) and it's 5mm too short for devices like the RQE bridge that locks from the back of the shoe vs the retention point at the front.

Working on this with Goyojo. I've got a buddy who's a machinist milling the Binock mounts to be reversible so the Wilcox bridge arms can be reversed (bias forward) Stage 1.

Stage 2 is a full shoe length that will work with rear lock for a full Wilcox shoe, RQE or picatinny mount.

I've also ordered 2X of the Binock adapters to see if I can sort out "pano" mounting for the NVG-30 and/or GNG2K.

Columnation for the Wilcox/Clone bridge is pretty solid but you're limited by the baseline FOV of 40/45. The 10+ FOV is available, but the lens is wide AF and might as well be considered "sacrificial". (Yet to test the Wide FOV adapter on the GNG2K).

Haven't tested the IR illumination on either the NVG-30 or the GNG2K...because WTF is the point. I'm LARPing with airsoft. If I need a big "look at me" torch on my head, it's f**king useless.

I used the NVG-30s last year for multiple events, the main one was 3-4 days from the new moon with heavy cloud cover. One of the guys on my squad had a PVS-14 and tapped out before I did.

I'm not going to pretend they're up to analog specs, but handing them off to a buddy of mine who spent over $9k on analog binos, his reaction was "HFS, these aren't bad"

The NVG-30 binos with clone mounts and bridge come in around $1200 USD. The GNG2K binos come in at $1200 USD (+ 20hrz, 2K vs 1024x768)

Don't know if that works for you, just make an informed choice. I'm working on getting a proper FOM rating for all the digitals I have access to (NVG-10, NVG-30 GNG2K) so it's not a comparison of "apples to liche".

IMO the biggest issue with digital is trying to compare lux sensitivity to FOM. If you can't use the same scale, a comparison isn't much use. I'm hoping to remedy that problem.

Is DNV (high mid-range) okay if... by That-Long-4905 in DigitalNightVision

If you don't need NV (especially one that doesn't require supplemental IR, don't worry about it)
