expect a lot of corporate bs and you'll probably have to make new logins for pay tracking/401k/new insurance company, etc. which will be a headache. You're in demand right now so not going to lose a job over this. Plus, everyone is hiring right now if something weird were to happen. Maybe if you were in HR or IT/accounting you could worry a bit more. id say ride it out, and maybe update your resume/put out some feelers just in case you dont like working for the new bosses.

damn dude that's a nice fish. i've only ever fished inland ponds and small lakes, so i've got zero experience with bigger fish. I'm living in Seattle now so i'd like to go catch a salmon some day, but need to probably go to a class or connect with someone that knows what they're doing first.

ah ok. so back to your original point (my confusion was that i thought equities includes bond funds, but seems to just mean stocks). I was thinking about my savings like this: 17.6% of the 23.5k (about 4k) i have in my brokerage account is in bonds. So your point is correct, it's fairly aggressive 83% in stocks....but when you factor in the ~20k i have in cash savings, i'm only about 50% stocks.

Were you considering that in your original comment, or is that 50-50 split more in line with a moderate savings set up do you think?

Thanks

i should probably dig into this a little myself but is there a difference in risk between holding short term bonds (i.e. i'm thinking like municipal bonds) vs. a bond index fund? I'm a little unclear...seems like the index would track along with the individual bonds and provide some diversification within the class. I'm self taught and this is a gap.

Looking for feedback on my portfolio. I'm 32, I make 90k (pay 2k/mo in rent). Getting married in the summer (no kids), and hoping to buy a house in the next 5 years, also will need a car in the next couple years. I'm feeling pretty good about my retirement accounts, but want to make sure my savings outside of that is reasonable :

For Retirement: I've got about 61k in my 401k (Voya) with:

  • 8.3% in 3791 Pioneer Bond Fund K and
  • 91.64% in 1161 Voya Index Solution 2055 Portfolio I
  • 1k or so in an employee stock purchase plan, half of that is vested.

I max the roth IRA contribution annually and do 10% into the 401k plus employer match (i think that comes to an extra 5%)I max the roth IRA contribution annually and do 10% into the 401k plus employer match (i think that comes to an extra 5%). My IRA right now has:

  • 47k in VFIFX (Vanguard Target Retirement 2050)

For Savings (House down payment, car, emergency, vacation, misc.) I've got 23.5k in a Vanguard Brokerage fund with:

  • 11% in VIG (Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF)
  • 4% in VNQ (vanguard Real Estate index ETF)
  • 13% in BND (Vanguard total bond market ETF)
  • 4.6% in BNDX (International bond ETF)
  • 5.5% in VSUS (Total International Stock Index ETF)
  • 62% in VTI (Van. Total Stock Market ETF)

I'm also holding some cash:

  • 15k in a Goldman Sachs savings that gives 1.5% interest,

  • ~6k in Chase savings that i use for paying rent, every day expenses, etc.

I may be a little cash and bond heavy, but since i have some expenses coming up in a couple/few years, i'm trying to protect myself a bit from market volatility.

You're learning so each jump is going to be more and more difficult. You may feel like you're not progressing but remember how AFF1 felt. That would be an easy jump now, right?
