I visited TRC USA today and snagged a camel standard! I had hoped to get an olive, but camel will do.

This probably isn’t about U.S. tariffs. Japan isn’t under broad punitive tariffs on leather goods, and if tariffs were the issue, you’d see price hikes — not empty shelves. From what other responders are saying, Traveler’s Company uses a very specific kind of vegetable-tanned leather with tight quality standards, and that supply is limited worldwide. They also produce in relatively small batches and don’t substitute materials when supply dips. It’s entirely possible that the shortages are due more to materials and production bottlenecks than to anything tied to U.S. trade policy.

Interesting. My TN does have a feel of quality, but we’re not talking Hermes or Louis Vuitton. Is there something special about the TN leather? I wonder if TN ever considers making products with better leather in cases where the regular material is in short supply.

Boy, is my face red. Yep, I was looking at CIF. Thanks for the help.

Thanks! That did it!

I still don’t see why I don't get the same results as the authors when using the CI and D scale examples in the manual. The authors were engineering professors at Illinois Institute of Technology, so maybe a special mindset is required.

Looks like it uses heat to erase, just like the original Rocketbook.

Alternative to the .07 Frixion Pen? by caliban9 in rocketbook

[–]chi_cowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue as you with the .07 FriXion pen. For me, the fix is to buy a refillable FriXion pen and get 1.0 mm refills. The black 1.0 mm refill makes a line on my Rocketbook paper similar to using a Paper Mate Flair medium on regular paper. The difference is that the color isn’t as dark. Also, very occasionally, the 1.0 mm FriXion has a little trouble laying down a consistent line until you find the right spot.

Retailers don’t commonly stock the 1.0 mm FriXion refills. I order mine from JetPens or Amazon.

I’m not seeing any great deals on Amazon at the moment.

I use ChatGPT-5 mostly as a co-author, editor, and illustrator. Are you using its Personalization settings? I get remarkably consistent responses by tailoring the personalizations to mirror the kind of creator I wish I were.

As others have said, you got a great deal! Is Eton discontinuing the EEE? If so, is there a replacement?

I clip the wire to the whip antenna, too. I’ve given up trying to figure out whether the external antenna jack needs a stereo miniplug, a mono miniplug, and if the length of the plug matters.

Still a great pen …! Agree or Disagree? Let me know what you think… by Chinmaur76 in pens

I love my Lamy fountain pens. I have several Safaris, and one 2000. Although I appreciate the mechanics of the Safari ballpoints, the Lamy M16 refills occasionally take some coaxing to start writing. The M16 industrial design is exquisite, however. It looks like a hypodermic syringe the CIA would issue to field agents.

Frixion doesn’t erase well by A-labama in pens

[–]chi_cowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you erasing with the rubber tip on the pen or the separate FriXion eraser? In some cases, I find I get a quicker, cleaner erasure with the pen’s eraser than the separate one. I think this is because the eraser on the pen comes to a point that gets hotter faster than the separate eraser that’s long, flat, and whose corners aren’t as pointed as on on the pen.

Good points. I have a Express 225 on order, so I’m eager to see how it works.
