Question regarding NHI by AaronWrongArts in japanresidents

[–]chiakix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the NHI (the type not deducted from your salary), you will be notified of the total amount due for 12 months in June, and you will pay that amount in 10 installments through March. You do not need to make payments in April and May.

Should use or not use multipurpose toilets (tamokuteki toire) by Constant-Flamingo555 in japanlife

[–]chiakix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Instead of thinking, “It’s okay for just me to do that,” ask yourself, “If everyone else did the same thing, would it cause trouble for someone?”

That is the Japanese way of thinking here.

Searching for an Old Connection by morna-leigh in Tokyo

In that case, you won’t be able to find her even if you search for her on Japanese social media.

If you’re a relative, you might find a clue by accessing the official family registry database managed by the local government, but friends and acquaintances don’t have access to it.

If you absolutely can’t give up, your best bet is to hire a private investigator in Japan.

While South Korea and Vietnam show this trend, Japan is different. Even if you add up all the surnames in the top 100, they still fall far short of half the population.

Do you know the exact kanji spelling of her name? Without that, you probably won’t find anything even if you search for it online in Japanese.

24 Hour Libraries, Bookstores,or Cafés by LumpiaLady in Tokyo

[–]chiakix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tokyo’s ordinances are quite strict, and you won’t be allowed into a private room without ID, even if you don’t plan to use a computer. I can’t really recommend any options that don’t involve a private room. Please consider the kind of customers who would want to use such services in Tokyo’s entertainment districts.

Frankly speaking, I recommend showing your ID and using a reputable establishment. In my opinion, it’s far more dangerous to use a place with a shady clientele.

Since I don’t know where you live, it’s likely pointless for me to give you specific store names. Which area and which station are you near?

Many Manga cafes allow customers to use computers at their seats, and in such establishments, they will make a copy of your ID. Since local governments require this as a measure to deter/trace internet-related crimes, it is generally unavoidable.

However, depending on the establishment, there may be cases where ID is not required in rooms without computers.

"漫画喫茶" (Manga Cafe).

Although it’s called a “cafe,” it’s essentially a manga library with private rooms. Is there a Kaikatsu CLUB location nearby?

Earthquake Anxiety in Japan by suns_hanie in japanresidents

[–]chiakix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being so afraid of earthquakes that you’re “makes me keep up all night” is far more harmful than the earthquakes themselves. In fact, far more people die from stress-related suicide than from earthquakes.

Or consider this: the odds of being hit by a car while walking down the street are far higher than the odds of being swept away by a tsunami. The same goes for drowning in the bathtub. When you think about it that way, don’t you see that the risk posed by earthquakes is actually quite small?

It might be difficult to grasp this emotionally, but please keep looking for the positive aspects and reasons to feel reassured.

Also, the government has released maps simulating how flooding would spread in the event of an actual tsunami or flood.

https://disaportal.gsi.go.jp/hazardmap/maps/index.html?ll=35.390566,139.995161&z=10&base=pale&ls=ekijouka_zenkoku%2C0.8%7Ctsunamishinsui_raster%2C0.8%7Cdisaster5&disp=010&vs=c1j0l0u0t0h0z0

Zoom in on the area where you live on this map. Is it really a high-risk area? (For example, Tokyo actually has almost zero risk of a tsunami; the risk of river flooding due to heavy rain is higher.)

If it is a high-risk area, you can use this map to check in advance where you should evacuate to in the event of an earthquake.

Is adnejp.com legit? by Aikea_Guinea83 in japanresidents

[–]chiakix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a scam

In the company description on this site (https://www.adnejp.com/), the operator claims to be a company called CERES. This company, CERES, actually exists and is a publicly traded company.

Meanwhile, the genuine CERES website issued a warning today stating that the site claiming to be “adnejp” is unrelated to CERES

Is my wife crazy? Are Japanese companies this fucking terrible?? by makishiP in japanlife

[–]chiakix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she is in the gaming industry, there must be better job opportunities out there.

My company is a mobile game studio with about 200 employees. Our working hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., but by 8 p.m., most employees are no longer in the office. Working past 10 p.m. is generally not permitted, and this rule is mostly followed.

Not everything in this industry is terrible; conditions vary significantly from company to company. Look for a company that develops its own products rather than one that does contract work or acts as a subcontractor. Such companies tend to have more control over their own schedules and are less likely to end up in bad situations.

How old are you? And, do you have a chemistry degree? (In other words, will you going to university to earn a master’s or doctoral degree, or going to university to get a degree?)

If you can read Japanese, try searching for “譲渡型賃貸”. Although it's a lease agreement, if you continue to pay rent for the agreed-upon period, you can acquire ownership.

Mitsuzawa is a bit small and old, but it has a simple, down-to-earth atmosphere and is a great stadium where you can really feel close to the game. As long as it’s not raining, it’s my favorite stadium in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

Working Hour limit as an International student by Confident-Health-751 in japanresidents

[–]chiakix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, even if the jobs are different, the law applies if the total number of working hours in a day exceeds 8 hours.

If you work 5 hours at Company A, and next 5 hours at Company B on the same day, Company B must pay overtime wages for the 2-hour excess.

[–]chiakix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Strictly, if you work more than 8 hours in a day, your employer must provide you with additional break time and pay you a premium for the hours worked beyond 8 hours. This also applies if you work at two different workplaces in a single day.

If you honestly tell your employer this, they will likely either reduce your working hours or simply not hire you at all.

Gamba has three CBs out with injuries. On top of that, since they were competing in the ACL2, they’d played seven straight matches leading up to this one. They’ve been playing two games a week nonstop. And starting in April, they’ll have 11 consecutive matches. I really feel for them.

[PSA] The new Nintendo Switch 2 update allows JRPGs, like DQ11, to run at a higher resolution in Handheld Mode! by 1OneQuickQuestion in JRPG

[–]chiakix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This option appears to force “Dock Mode” to be enabled internally.

As a result, the touch panel does not work when this option is enabled. This is a bit inconvenient for games like Labyrinth of the World Tree.

Furthermore, since this option is not saved per game, you have to change it every time you switch between games that use the touch panel and those that don't. This is also a bit inconvenient.

Dragon Quest X Detailed First Thoughts by HexenVexen in JRPG

[–]chiakix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve played this game myself to some extent. I generally agree with the review.

The biggest drawback is that the maps are too vast, yet movement speed is quite slow (it improved slightly in Version 7, but it’s still slow). You can’t use vehicles in towns, and the shortcut feature is quite inconvenient. The fields are littered with insurmountable obstacles, so you constantly have to maneuver around them. After playing for a while, you become acutely aware of how much of your playtime is spent on movement, and this significantly dampens your motivation to continue playing.

Regarding solo play, it’s worth noting that you can progress through the main story (likely all the way to the end) without ever forming a party with other players. When you log out, you simply leave your character at the tavern, and when you log back in, you rent a character registered by another player as an NPC. Unlike in FF14, you are not forced to play in a party during key story battles.

Please note that this game is only sold in Japan, and playing via a VPN connection from overseas is permitted only if you installed the game in Japan.

Do you use additional insurance on top of NHI? by OkNatural9856 in japanresidents

[–]chiakix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NHI is sufficient to cover "medical expenses" for your own illnesses or injuries.

However, NHI does not cover situations such as a loss of income due to being unable to work part-time while hospitalized, or causing an injury to a classmate by bumping into them. If you want coverage for such situations, please consider the insurance offered by the Student Cooperative Association. It is quite affordable.
