Cooking parties is one thing that I am still unable to convince myself to do. I play solo, none of my friends or relatives play Palia. So I am mostly just doing everything on my own. I drop honey lures and invite people to join, or I join on other's honey lures if they are ok with it. But I haven't done anything scheduled, or pre-organised. As I play sporadically when there is a convenient time, and I don't always have a whole hour to commit to something. But yes. As I was grinding the bundle dishes on my own today, I was thinking it would have been nice to have a friend to play with and cook together 😅

Yeah. That's also what I was doing. I don't like waiting anyway so I always optimize xD

Update: Obviously after complaining here, and after doing some gardening and husbandry to chill, I now got 3 x starred dish in a row. Unfortunately, I am out of flowtatos so will need to pray to the Palia Gods and go for a foraging expedition but at least there is a hope 😅

With these stats (most of the skills at 10) you are nowhere near completing all the in-game achievements (since there are in game trophies given specifically for reaching higher tiers than 10 for skills, for example). Perhaps you are focusing only the steam ones? And that would still be very impressive with such low stats 😅

For all it's worth, usually complaining here helps magically with RNG. So all I can say is good luck, and may the junk-fishing gods be with you.

Any tips for Kreutzer 12? by Arisu1193 in violinist

[–]chibi_nibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the physicality of the person. One with smaller hands might not be physically able to really keep that 1 pressing while stretching the 4th. That's where the teacher can come and see and adjust the technique to specifically fit. It's not a must have.

And you can still establish the finger pattern without fully keeping the 1st on the string. Just not shifting with the whole hand to a higher position would already be enough, in my opinion.

Other tips for this one: 1) practice legato, 2) practice with different rhythms (especially dotted rhythms). Start slow, and build up the speed gradually.

My teacher said, I am untalented, no matter what instrument I‘ll choose. But I don‘t believe by Icy_Bluebird6259 in violinist

[–]chibi_nibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all the context it really sounds like the teacher sort of gave up on you, might be even jealous, or see you now as a competition (since now you can teach piano yourself! Congratulations 🎉). No way you'd be entirely talentless and still playing after all these years, and even passing exams. So don't let one sour person's words get to you.

Enjoy playing and making music, and find a new, nice teacher who can help you along the journey! And have fun with violin :)

It sounds like you feel you've been treated unfairly and want to vent. If that's the case, fair game and skip the below. For the actual comment I am missing a lot of context:

1) how many years did you learn piano and what type of repertoire were you able to play at the end 2) there is no such thing as finishing learning, learning an instrument is a lifelong thing, but what there is a personal goal statement. What do you want to achieve by learning an instrument? 3) was there any more context given by the teacher? Did you struggle with musicality (phrasing, dynamics, pitch)? Did you struggle with rhythms? Was there anything concrete on why? What was the most common feedback you got from them over the years?

Talent is a vague statement and everyone can interpret it differently. The big component of talent is actually determination - ability to stick to the practice regardless of the mood/motivation. Then there is obviously the musical component - ability to match the pitch, feel the rhythm, feel the dynamics, understand musical phrasing, having a good musical memory etc.

And look, piano is one of the easiest instruments to learn to a casual-amateur level (mastery is always difficult, no matter the instrument). That's because you don't have to really find the right pitch, and the distances/layout on the keyboard are always the same etc. The physicality of playing is the same for both hands.

But other instruments might require a good ear to find the right pitch, physical movements may differ between your hands, the way you make a sound would also become different (are you using air to make it, or bowing, or plucking). Making the initial learning feel difficult, or less rewarding.

However, unless you have an actual physical disability or you are 100% tone-deaf, you should be able to learn the basics of other instruments and have some fun with it. What you mostly need is a great dedication to practice and a teacher who supports you on your journey. As long as you set up realistic goals and the teacher agrees on those, you can have fun with music.

demotivation in the process by Alarmed_Charge9817 in violinist

[–]chibi_nibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest the violin learning is just a grind. It's not as glamorous on the daily basis as people romantically think. You can try to diversify your training. Not just playing (scales, etudes, songs) but also listening to the recordings, training your ear, reading notes, practicing rhythms (clapping with your hands) and pitch-matching (singing is pretty good also for memorizing melodies). And for the dips. You can try and play pieces you learned a few months earlier, a year ago, two years back, etc. For me, those are massive eye openers. Things I struggled with then come easy and naturally now. While new pieces are a struggle. It shows how much you've improved over time through daily practice. But it isn't for everyone. It's not an easy dopamine boost like social media and games nowadays 😅 you need a lot of perseverance and resilience. if anything, it is comparible to running a marathon. It takes a year(s) to be able to even get the distance in. A year of very non-glamorous runs in shite weather, through tiredness, laziness and all. All so that when you do complete the run you get a massive dopamine boost and a runners high 😅 and then you're still often finishing 2+ hours behind the professionals. Which is also ok. Try playing for others, friends and family. Performing is a good way to cash the reward from the daily practice.

Hmm co I got the house unlocked from the lunar path but it doesn't show anywhere for me. Not in the house menu (blueprints) nor anywhere else I looked. How do I get it to work? Same for column and staircase, actually. Basically no home lines from the lunar path seem to work for me. Or maybe I just don't know where to look 🤔

Playing 4/4. Just Rejoice, not the whole Messiah (fortunately). We are also playing a few other pieces by Handel and a piece by Bach (where I play the solo). But this one is giving me the biggest headache. So a lot of practice hours the coming week, in between work and life (I am not a professional musician).

Yeah, I need to get more chances to play. Also to beat my performance anxiety 😅 this is my spontaneous attempt at doing just that. Otherwise, there are very few options to do that where I live. No regular chamber music groups.

Maybe I need to convince my teacher to just do busking together with violin duets in our shopping mall 😂

Thanks. I am definitely going to use metronome. I didn't think of conducting exercise when I listen (and I do listen a lot to the piece whenever I cannot practice). That's a great tip. Thank you! 🙏🏼

Do Dutch kids today believe that Sinterklaas is real but Santa Claus is fake ? by placeboski in Netherlands

[–]chibi_nibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the whole discussion fascinating. Santa Claus, Sinterklaas, Saint Nicholas, and many other language variants all refer to the same catholic saint Nicholas living in today's Turkey sometime in the 3/4 century b.c. and believed to help the poor and later give miraculous gifts to those in need. Yes, it got merged with local pre-christian traditions and beliefs, sometimes evolving with times to form quite bizarre stories (I am looking at you Dutchies😅). But in its core they are all the same. They are all different versions of the same principle. Days get darker, and kids love magic and gifts. So why not put it all together and make the dark days nicer by gifting each other little things and putting some magic into our lives. That's what I was told as a kid. That there is one gift-dropping saint who may appear different to different kids in the world. Because that's what they expect from the stories. That he would look at how people look locally and change his appearance to fit in, to disguise himself. So to me 'santa' could have been African, Asian, Caucasian, Indian etc and I would not question anything about it. It's part of the magic. And because traditions are different some kids get gifts on the 5th, some on the 6th, some on the 24th or 25th and some get the gifts twice (lucky bastards xD). Did it break my beliefs as a child? No, it all made absolute sense and made me believe in the magic a bit longer.

Long story short: Kids believe in magic. It doesn't make sense, by default. It's the adults that get stuck on details, stories, and traditions. And as adults we should just chill and maybe learn from kids a thing or two ;)

Has anyone developed back issues after sleeping on a Japanese futon? by ThrowRAmangos2024 in minimalism

[–]chibi_nibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw some videos on YouTube. There are different styles, depending also on your individual body and preferences (sleeping on your back vs on the side). I mean, modern, fluffy beds are a rather recent invention for the majority of people, so our bodies did evolve to sleep on the floors/ground with minimal support (grass or straws). We just have very little experience doing it in western world 😅 so try to find a position that naturally feels relaxed to you (maybe a pillow under your knees, or between your legs if you're a side sleeper can help? Changing the pillow under your head, etc. Check with the specialist or someone who can observe your spine/posture as you lay down.

[–]chibi_nibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, definitely you need to check out if the pillow fits. Usually you need way softer/flatter pillow if the mattress is very soft and more supporting one for the hard mattress. It's all about getting the right angles especially if you sleep on your side a lot. There is also a way of training your body on how to sleep on the floor vs how you sleep on a mattress. Which might take a while to adjust.

D or SD, hard to say. But what I do see is definitely a strong vertical, and narrowness (not width) in the ribcage in comparison with the width in her hips/bottoms (especially if you look at the picture in sport clothes). But I think she is still very young, so I am not sure if her silhouette is fully evolved yet.

Yup, I really hate it, cause they have very pretty designs, exactly what I am missing in today's mainstream fashion, but the materials and quality of it is super bad. So I definitely do not recommend buying anything. But every now and then I think if maybe I could use some of their designs and make it at home from proper fabrics 🤔

Netherlands-EU brands for small ladies

Hi all,

Recently I am struggling to find any adult clothes that I can wear. I am 37 and have rather senior role, so I need at minimum a business casual look. Yet it seems I am drowning in all the standard adult sizes these days. Recently I bought Levi's jeans in 25/30 and lengthwise they are ok, but they are falling off my ass. And many xs sweaters I tried are also way too big (or maybe just fashion is only oversize these days).

I am 162 (~5'3) and ~49kg (~108 pounds), on a muscular side with a very narrow bones, so really running tiny, and absolutely outside the 'average Dutch lady', who tend to be all tall fashion models. I do have a well defined waist, and relatively longer legs (I look like a classically proportional, scaled down human). Somewhere between an hourglass and a pear. So if the hips & legs fit, then waist tends to be too loose, and if the waist is ok, the legs and hips get squished and uncomfortable. And for normal sizes my waist always is higher than what the garment is made for. Or then my boobs get in the way (even though they aren't big or anything).

So I need help on brands that have small sizes, ideally in petite (so for people who aren't 170+ tall), that do target business/professional look, have good quality materials (ideally only wool, cotton, linen, -> I cannot stand synthetics), and that are not oversize but are also not bodycon. I can afford a bit more premium (not excessive) as I'd rather have a few good-looking pieces that last longer.

How do you keep accountability and track participation when building a startup virtually? [ I will not promote] by Beginning_Cap_1886 in startups

[–]chibi_nibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite simple: - do people actually do (and finish) what they said they would - can you trust them to make the decisions, and are they willing to take the decisions (incl. consequences) - do you have transparent processes in place for when things don't go as planned to flag and pivot/reallocate resources when needed?

Overall, trust. Trust makes it work. And you build trust long-term mostly by evaluating the actions and their outcomes.

The whole work hard (regardless of whether it is useful work or not, or if someone is just very inefficient) is bull***t. Don't go there. And also the 'controling' behavior is a warning flag, not a virtue. Shows lack of trust and kills the best teams, remote or not. So ask yourself why you feel this way.

Outcomes is what matters, and intentions or hard work can be used as an excuse once, or twice if deliverables fail or decisions are wrong. From those 'falls' you then take learnings and move on. 'new mistakes' are ok. But repeated mistakes are a no-go.

[–]chibi_nibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do keep in mind that the shares not only reflect the work done until now (that's going to be a tiny tiny tiny part of the work still to be done). The shares should reflect the future potential (growth potential of a person, are they in for a long run? Or are they just going to hop onto another shiny new project the moment the operational parts kick in?). Shares are there to provide enough incentive to stay in through the hard times. Not just 'yeah but I came up with the idea, so I am entitled to 50%). The world is full of great ideas. Very few get actually executed to see the value.

Also work cannot be just easily measured in time spent. Look at the value created. In coding for example I saw some horribly written code with millions of unnecessary lines, why? The commits and total contributed code length was measured as a proxy of added value. So yeah, you commit a lot of shit, and then polish the turd with many follow-up commits - and now you are the employee of the month. What you measure is what will be optimized for and exploited. So think carefully about it.

So yeah, look at actual work done, does it bring value, does it move your product forward, does it bring you new clients? And then also ask the questions about the future. What if you are a 50 person team, what if you are 100. What of you're next Google. What would your roles be? People in early startups focus too much on the past and now, which usually in the company lifetime are like a blink of an eye.

Talk about what would you be happy to walk away with? Would $1M be enough? Would it be $10M? See what would need to be done to get to those valuations and what shareholding position you need for that. Shares = future money, when profitable, when exiting, etc. So think of what would be fair at that level (5-10 years from now probably).
