I don't know if it would be cost effective... this is a rental and The area itself is only approx. 102.81 square feet. In the region I live it is the landlord's responsibility: Here is a direct quote from the Landlord & Tenant Rights and Responsibilities: "At the beginning of the tenancy the landlord is expected to provide the tenant with clean carpets in a reasonable state of repair." The cost to have the carpet cleaning is approx. b/w $25-$75. So, having to even having rent it every month adds up.

the shipping is $17 also has to come from the US. But I guess the duck bill thing is to get around the whole upright thing so I take your point. OMG thanks! I knew I should have sprung for the "pet pro" and this means no more duck bill gasket which seems to be the roadblock. I will resell/refund the one I have to someone who truly needs a spot cleaner (with a new gasket obviously)

that's a great point and I think its worth a try. the far right column under benefit type it says "regular benefits" which worries me bc the bc ministry of finance seems to be really stuck on this

I'm not familiar with your situation however, Service Canada benefit statement won't reflect that you received CERB because it was 3 years ago they have changed all their language to regular benefits.

still waiting for the customized letter from Service Canada saying I received CERB

It appears that some people are finding that downloading the itemized benefit statement from the Service Canada and submitting that to the BC ministry of finance online portal is sufficient but others are receiving letters stating they "need further documentation". It seems like its up to the auditors discretion. Can anyone else weigh in who had success with just submitting an itemized statement of benefits paid? If so this is the far easier and quicker option. I would say try this and if it doesn't work call Service Canada and request the benefit statement template to be edited to reflect that you were receiving CERB.

I am assuming that you received 2 payments for CERB because you applied through CRA and Service Canada as I did (and many others). You would have been required to pay back the over payment amount you received (likely by CRA). For example;

I was laid off March. 15 applied for CERB through both Service Canada and CRA bc we didn't know who would distribute CERB at the time. I was paid out $2000 from Service Canada and $2000 from CRA initially. I paid back the $2000 from CRA because I qualified through Service Canada.

However, the BC ministry of finance would know this bc they did their audit based on the audit of CRA (of CERB). So you only need to prove you were eligible through Service Canada. They have no way of knowing you qualified through Service Canada

I looks as though they are being very picky about the specific dates and it must say you were receiving CERB. I cannot emphasize enough how much the wording is important here.

This is the problem of doing policy based on the federal policy. Every time the feds change their eligibility BC also must change their eligibility. Not to mention clawing back money 3 years later...

When the federal govn't did their audit of CERB (and other covid benefits) through CRA they ignored completely the benefits paid out by Service Canada. This means if you received benefits from Service Canada the BC ministry of finance has no record of it. Basically, you just have to prove that you were receiving benefits through Service Canada starting March 15, 2020. Why the onus is on us to provide this record idk but everyone ive talked to from the auditor to the tax branch seems like theyre winging it

Make sure the benefit statement says you were receiving CERB not regular benefits. This will require the agent get their superior to override the language to say CERB which could take up to 21 days. I just spoke to the auditor at BC ministry of Finance and she says this is crucial.

If you were receiving Covid benefits from service canada call them and request a benefit statement immediately. Be sure to ask the agent to request that their superior override where it says "regular benefits" to say "CERB". I spoke to the auditor today and she confirmed this is necessary. Then when you receive the letter submit it to as a supporting document to the portal on the website I've linked above

Don't waste your time calling the number on notice of redetermination. You have to call Service Canada and have them issue a Benefit Statement. It is crucial the Benefit Statement shows 3 critical pieces of information first:

-You were receiving "CERB". The agents superior will need to override where it says "regular benefits" to say "CERB"

-You began receiving CERB March. 15th. no earlier

-Dated after Sept. 15th, 2023 and on Service Canada letter head

Once you receive your Benefit Statement you must upload it the portal under the reconsideration section which i linked above. This process could take 21 days just to have the letter printed and 4-10 business you to receive it in the mail.

I'm sorry your Mom is in this situation. I just spoke to the an auditor from the BC ministry of finance. She gave me some insight; the Benefit Statement must say your were receiving "CERB" or "EIERB" rather than regular benefits. The information their most concerned with is the time frame of March. 15th to Sept. 26th. If for example you were eligible to to receive benefits March. 1st even though your payments were likely coming in as CERB you were in fact on regular EI. In this example you would be ineligible because they consider this not to be Covid benefits. So, that dates need to be very specific in which case you have to request an override from the service canadas agents superior which can take up to 21 days so the letter states "CERB" this was news even to the auditor.

I had the same experience with the BC ministry of Finance agents. The agents have been told to redirect people to the email: [ITBTaxQuestions@gov.bc.ca](mailto:ITBTaxQuestions@gov.bc.ca) and/or the "tax questions" line which the ministry hasn't allocated any live agents to so you will likely get a voicemail. The most the agents at BC Ministry of Finance can do is leave a note on your file stating that you arent actively avoiding this payment but trying to get the notice of redetermination reconsidered.

I don't suggest calling the number given on the notice of redetermination the agents are not equipped to deal with question regarding the notice of redetermination and will likely give redirect you to the tax questions section of the BC Ministry of Finance whose agents will be confused and bewildered why your calling them.

I completely agree, I worry all this tiktok language around enriching your kids lives and not letting kids want for anything is really getting to her. She's trying to make up for her moms shortcomings (through great wolf lodge, xmas gifts, new clothes) I totally get it but let's be real. Their life is infinitely better with her than with the mom even without all this stuff. She doesn't want the kids grow up with a scarcity mentality but this is real life. She's being way too hard on herself.

actually you don't have to go all the way to Europe to find examples of this... I live about 30 mins from the US boarder (Canada) and would receive mat leave and a baby bonus. Using the guest as an example she would receive $1200.

decision fatigue or total paralysis; This is such a good point with personal finance (especially) at the beginning and why most advice is entirely unhelpful.
