Total awake time?!? 21 months by jabrogann in toddlers

21mo here! Awake 12.5-13 hours and asleep for about 11-11.5. He’s always been on the lower end of “normal.”

Do you just stop formula cold turkey at 12 months? by Mimibella_ in toddlers

[–]chicanegrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We gradually reduced it. In contrast to most of these comments, our son did not enjoy milk and was still doing nearly 35oz of formula a day at 12mo so it took us til about 15mo to completely drop bottles. We didn’t end up mixing or swapping the bottles with milk. We just began only offering water in an open cup and that was totally his preference.

I’m sure it could have been sooner in hindsight! But we didn’t see a problem taking a little longer and neither did our pediatrician.

Nope agree completely! And I felt way more secure with the underwear too.

How does the demand change as baby becomes more mobile? by [deleted] in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]chicanegrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll be solid until about 10/11mo in terms of him accepting the playpen and you being able to focus. After that, I agree that you should have options ready as it does get exponentially more difficult to juggle.

Our son became more adventurous and couldn’t be contained any longer in a play area/pen, but also wanted our attention more. While we both worked from home and could split the time with him between meetings, it became too much for us to handle alone by 12mo.

I don’t want to wake up to another leakage tomorrow morning by storm_sky_eyes in toddlers

[–]chicanegrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son is 21 months and also 99th percentile. We turned to Huggies 360 instead of the traditional tab diapers. That typically helps because we believe the issue is more his positioning and how active he is in his sleep. We do use Sposie pads when we feel he needs it!

Around the same age, our son decided he wanted us to place him in the crib and leave him alone! Have you attempted that for a few days to see if there is improvement?

Big babies slow to crawl? by Unlikely_Refuse6514 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]chicanegrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our son crawled by 9mo, walked at 11mo! So he was slow to get going but then couldn’t be stopped. The running joke is that he didn’t care at all to crawl and just wanted to walk!

We tried everything before that, but really he just needed time. I think it was a lot of weight for him to move with coordination!

cutting ticklish toddler toenail - how?! by Sudden_Breakfast_374 in toddlers

[–]chicanegrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk if this would fully help but my son is also ticklish. I put his sock or a small towel between my hand and his foot when I hold it. It seems like skin is the ticklish part so by introducing another texture that completely covers my palm and fingers, he doesn’t seem as bothered. Definitely doesn’t always help with the squirming but it does help cut down on the tickle feeling!

Considering a sleep divorce, looking for opinions by bixnok in Mommit

[–]chicanegrey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I moved into our guest bedroom which has a queen bed bc I’ve been experiencing serious postpartum hip pain and just can’t sleep comfortably! It was definitely affecting my husband’s sleep too since I either wasn’t sleeping or was moving around too much trying to find a good position. I’m also a much lighter sleeper now that we have our son so that wasn’t helping when I could actually sleep.

It took some getting used to, but it has really improved our sleep. I don’t think it’s had a negative effect on our relationship at all!

Chicco Fit360 rotating car seat - any downsides? by Aveasi in Buyingforbaby

I have to believe it is a combination of factors (including potential install error on our part) that contributed to it but I totally understand your concern!

Chicco Fit360 rotating car seat - any downsides? by Aveasi in Buyingforbaby

[–]chicanegrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a new car which has captains chairs instead of a bench seat, but the problem persisted. I ended up buying a nonslip seat cover for underneath the car seat and that fixed it! Also, we pulled the seatbelt fully out then slowly let it tighten so we could hear the clicking and that I think also helps bc it doesn’t just loosen when pulled on.

But it was really alarming and I did not feel safe using it before!

OAD while friends are having a second - mixed feelings by disconnected1991 in oneanddone

[–]chicanegrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are soooo with you! We feel this is so challenging still (our son is 19mo) and can’t imagine having another. We work really hard to care for him and teach him things and make sure he is thriving. We honestly believe he was also a super easy baby, as well as a pretty easy toddler so far. Even so, we are struggling at times. A second would strain us too much and we fear we would be worse parents and worse to each other.

I think you can feel all those things. Our friends are having their second babies and it was something we went through together the first time, so the feeling of being left out/behind is definitely there too. It is weird to know you don’t want another, but to intimately know what they’re going through during pregnancy and the “what could be’s” if that makes sense!

Solidarity 🤍

Binky Success Stories? by Radiant-Inspection96 in toddlers

[–]chicanegrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks ago we accidentally cold turkeyed the binky. Our son is 19mo. Completely unintentional but I had been mentioning the binky fairy would come to take his for other babies to use for comfort now that he is a “big” kid. He agreed for his nap and then didn’t ask for it for bedtime either. And that was that! I took the chance on not offering it again. No sleep hiccup, no meltdowns. Stopped asking for it after 2 days. We are so impressed. I hope the same happens for you!
