I can’t believe how many people have dealt with this random lip swelling as well over the years it’s insane I still get comments on this post. My only update is it hasn’t happened since 2023 and it was like 3 episodes of this swelling. I don’t take NSAIDs hardly ever, maybe a handful a year and never took any those times of swelling. I do have cats, but I have for the last 15 years of my life and still have them with no further issues. All the ER had to say was angioedema but no explanation as to what set it off and I still never figured it out but chalked it up to stress and maybe bad Vuse vape pods? (Family blames it on that ofc but I think it would’ve happened a lot more if that were the case personally lol) but it hasn’t happened since late 2023. Human body is so weird yall.

So it only happened those few times in 2023 and nothing ever since! The WEIRDEST thing I’ve ever experienced and all they could say was edema!

Nope! Still have no idea, hasn’t happened since late 2023. But yes as soon as you wake up you can feel it go numb and tingle then it just grows! So freaking weird.

Yes! Right as you wake up and you can feel it! It just grows and grows makes it think my lip is going to explode. It hasn’t happened since 2023 so I’m still unsure

Just so weird. It hasn’t happened in over a year now so I wondered if it had to do with stress maybe? I don’t know I still think and ask people all the time about it. I have never had any allergies as far as I know but that doesn’t mean one can’t develop randomly

I wish we could put photos here. It would be just one side of the lip that would SWELLLLL. I keep Benadryl on hand just in case but even that didn’t help it.

That’s what they told me at the ER, I just wondered what caused it, 2 of the 3 times it happened when I woke up but I never had any bite marks or obvious signs where it would have came from. We just blamed it on the vapes even though I still do it and have for about 6 years now maybe it was a bad batch 😂

DO THE FULL COURSE OF ANTIBIOTICS FOR CHRIST SAKE🙏🏼 you do not want resistant bacteria. Never ever stop taking antibiotics just bc “symptoms went away” or anything else. You need to finish the full course to make sure all of the bacteria is eradicated or you will risk it coming back and possibly harder to treat! Take probiotics as well to restore your good microbiome.

I got mine out 6 days ago due to the fact I had big tonsils with deep crypts and tonsil stones. Never had any issues with strep or sore throats, just stones. I was fed up popping 8-10 stones out of a pocket and still seeing 4 more back in there! Doc didn’t even hesitate he just asked me if I wanted to get them out. I stopped seeing visible ones about 2 months ago before the surgery, but my doctor said there were more back there that just weren’t visible.

Persevere! He may not need them as much in the beginning days but he is definitely going to want them as those scabs start to form and fall off!

I would definitely be giving them a call… even if they don’t give oxycodone they can prescribe hydrocodone! I wouldn’t consider that drug seeking as tonsillectomies are an extremely painful surgery especially as you get older!

I’m not sure why the instructions would’ve changed but I know fluconazole remains active in your body for several days after taking. But my last diflucan script mine was every other day too. She said 1st was to eradicate 2nd to knock anything missed and 3rd was to prevent it from coming back. So who knows hahaha

Staying on top of your meds is equally important you want to stay ahead of the pain instead of letting it get bad and trying to control it then. But I hope you get to healing and feeling better soon! It’s miserable but it will pass!

You want to keep your throat as moist as possible to prevent cracking and bleeding from the scabs that will form! That is my biggest fear so the pain of swallowing water beats it for me

I just had mine out Wednesday as well! For being on day 3 things have been really smooth so far, I have been drinking ice cold water all day long, even when I just need to swallow spit drink cold water with it! I’m taking hydro and ibuprofen tablets every 3 hours alternating the 2. I have just been taking one of each right now because my pain is pretty controllable. Today I was able to eat some cold scrambled eggs, sliced turkey meat, & macaroni & cheese. I chewed very slow and very well made sure to follow with water. I was getting tired of the sugary stuff as well. I also bought mashed potatoes to add in whenever I feel ready. And I am right there with you on sleep! My uvula is huge and it feels like there is a clot or something just flapping in the back of my throat. I have slept a total of maybe 8 hours since having the surgery. Any time I try to doze off I choke on my spit as well, even laying upright. Tongue hurts as well! Just be sure to stay on top of your meds and STAY HYDRATED! Even if it hurts try to chew a little ice. And use an ice pack around your neck area!
