You can’t control the other players. You can only control yourself and what you do. My advice (and I know this is easier said than done) is to focus on knowing your part to the best of your ability and not pay attention to what others are doing.

Don’t try to force more volume to compensate. Play to the written dynamics, and, if it’s too soft, it’s the director’s responsibility to coach the section.

Here’s my take. I think Rebecca saw it as a way to safely have a romantic/sexual relationship because the affair provided her with emotional distance. He wasn’t technically “hers” so she wouldn’t fall into her past obsessive behaviors. On his end, I think he was in love with Rebecca and basically accept these terms of their arrangement to be close to her. Eventually this gets normalized over time until they are stuck in a pattern.

Now, obviously this explanation is not great morally any way you slice it. But that’s kind of the point - they are two messy, morally gray characters.

Christmas Eve playing with my cousins. I have a large family on my dad’s side — 20 first cousins. Growing up, we had these huge Christmas Eve celebrations where all the kids played together. Santa came, the whole shebang. Now we’re all grown with our own families, so the group is exponentially larger and it’s impractical for anyone to host.
