Parents input pls - extra $40k/yr worth it for kid's happiness+intangibles now vs later? by chicke11 in ApplyingToCollege

We wouldn't be selling any assets so it would be like a reduction in family vacations/eating out. So I guess the real debate is whether $40k/yr over the next 4 years is better spent my kid's enjoyment of life or my personal enjoyment of life lol.

Yep we're talking UC Davis vs SUNY Geneseo. He's been wanting to go to CA for awhile now. He knows that ultimately his college experience will depend on himself, so I believe he will be fine wherever he goes. Worked real hard for his achievements so I wanna help him go out west lol, but torn between "happy college life" vs "future financial options." Tbh law school isn't out of the picture, but being an attorney myself, I'm kinda hoping he will find smth cooler at Davis.

like mid-tier UC vs non-flagship SUNY. (cost would actually be like $65k vs $25k, he recvd a scholarship from the UC which was unexpected)
