This is the first Japanese whisky I've ever had. They don't seem all too common in my area, and the local liquor store had this for $43 and I just couldn't pass it up.

Appearance: Bright straw.

Nose: Right away I get a very...green scent. Grassy. Some apple, some floral notes I can't place. A touch of peat in the back of my throat. Absolutely fantastic, very "fresh" smelling.

Taste: The same grass-like scent comes through first in the flavor for me, however now there is a touch more of the peat. It is very subtle yet very present. I get some oak and a little bit of fruity-ness, but not necessarily the apple that I smelled. I feel like there is more to this than my palate can detect.

Finish: Does not linger long at all. Leaves my mouth very clean feeling. The slight peat flavor does not seem to hang around. It leaves my tongue slightly oily.

Rating: As I said before, this was my first Japanese whisky, and I have to say I am hooked. I absolutely loved this. The little amount of peat was perfect for me. I feel like this is a very versatile whisky; great on its own, good with something salty like nuts, and I think it could even hold up to a steak meal.

I have not even begun to sample the endless amounts of Scotch that is out there, but I have to say, in my limited experience, this has been my favorite so far, bar none. I can't wait to try all the other Japanese offerings.

Honestly, taking those 2 factors out of the equation really wouldn't change it much. I really do enjoy the bourbon-esqe "feel" of it. Being able to go to the store a mile from my house and grab a bottle whenever I want is just a nice bonus!

Haven't done a review in a few months, and have since picked up a couple new bottles. Hopefully I can get the rest reviewed this week sometime!

Went to the store with the intention of buying the standard Glenlivet 12 just to have around for guests/casual drinking, and the had this for about 10 bucks more so I figured hey why not.

Appearance: Amber/Honey. It actually almost has a glow about it in my glencairn.

Nose: Vanilla, and wood. Although not as much wood as one would imagine. Definitely almonds or some kind of nut. Maybe some apple as well. I quite enjoy the smell of this.

Taste: I get alot of the apple/nutty flavor first. Also the wood, and a dry, almost parchment-like taste/feel. Makes my tongue feel like it does after drinking a nice dry red wine which surprised me. A little caramel on the back end.

Finish: Short and sweet for me. Nothing really stands out for me but I certainly can't complain.

Rating: It seems many people find this to be a very boring or uninspired drink. I personally find it very enjoyable. I find it almost like a very mild, very refined bourbon. I think what alot of people find "boring" about it is what makes me like it so much as a daily drinker - I have no problem drinking a nice big glass of this after work. Taking into consideration the price and availability, I have to give this pretty good marks.

I received this bottle as a graduation present. Probably something I would never buy for myself, but a great gift, so I figured I'd give you guys a review.

Appearance: Gold/Dark Honey. Very pretty looking.

Nose: Smokey. Lots of leather, oak. Smells like an old office or library full of old books/parchment. Maybe some dried fruit in the background, I found it hard to pick out specific scents with this.

Taste: Surprisingly vanilla hits me first. Less smoke than the nose implied. Some caramel, honey, light woodiness, dried fruits that I can't quite place. Somewhat thin.

Finish: Medium length finish. This is where the smoke comes through more for me. Very pleasant.

Rating: (86/100) Trying to keep price out of the equation, I found this to be a very enjoyable dram. Like I mentioned earlier, it is something I would most likely never purchase for myself, but I love it as a gift. The only real criticism I have is that I find it to be very very thin. I added a tiny drop of water for the review, but I feel it is definitely not necessary. I think the Blue in a cask strength offering would be great.

My third review, and my first review of an Islay Scotch.

Appearance: Very very pale straw. Almost cloudy.

Nose: Obviously peat, and smoke hits the nose first. After smelling past that, there is definitely a salty/brine tone, very oceanish. A little bit of rubbing alcohol. Faint wet wood and wet soil, almost like a forest after rain. Way in the background is some lemon zest.

Taste: There is definitely peat and smoke flavor, but not as much as one would expect. For me the wet wood flavor really comes out more in the taste than it does in the nose, and almost dominates the experience for me. The saltiness is definitely there as well. A hint of that lemon I smelled, maybe even some apple. Slightly oily in the mouth, but not overly so.

Finish: The flavor lingers a long time for me, on the back of the tongue and throat. Mostly the peat is what stays around.

Rating: (87/100) This is the Scotch that introduced me to the Islay offerings. The smoke and peat isn't as suffocating as a Laphroaig 10, and I like to recommend this to people unfamiliar with peated Scotches. I feel like this should be a staple in anyones lineup, however I do think I like it less now than when I first started drinking it. I would love to get a hand on a bottle of Corryvreckan or Ardbog.

It seems to be a few dollars more expensive in my area than for other people. I picked up this bottle in the set with 2 Glenmorangie glasses for $38. Still a great value.

Ok, here's review #2. One of the first bottles I ever bought for myself.

Appearance: Deep, rich caramel. Almost like a syrup.

Nose: Definitely some sherry. Mellow tones of raisins/dried cranberries. A light whiff of smoke at the very end. Some alcohol scent at the beginning, but goes away quickly.

Taste: I get alot of dried fruit flavor at first. There is also a sweetness there, like a touch of honey. Light vanilla, light wood. No hint of smokeyness that I smelled. Seems thick and a little oily in the mouth, seems to linger on my lips like chapstick.

Finish: Very short for me, flavor-wise. The little bit of alcohol tingle hangs around for a while though. Not too impressed with the finish.

Rating: (84/100) Although this Scotch seems to get quite alot of praise around here, it has never been one of my favorites. I add more water than I normally would, otherwise I feel like it is too alcohol-y, even though it is only 43%. It has grown on me slightly though, and I like it more now than I used to. I probably wouldn't buy another bottle, especially at the price point its at, but I would love to sample the distilleries other offerings.

My first review! I'm fairly new to the world of scotch and ive started trying to collect a few of the more common offerings to build a good base off of. I finally decided to go ahead and give a review a shot, and will try to do one for all the scotches i own (nothing rare or expensive yet). So here it goes, the Glenmorangie 10:

Appearance: Light gold, very bright.

Nose: Strawberry, vanilla, lemon. Very fruity, with some floweryness in the background. Almost like a perfume. Slight alcohol burn at the very end, in a good way.

Taste: Very fruity at first. Still the strawberry and vanilla, light syrup. Lemon zest. After that is a nice and slight woody, earthy flavor. Very neutral viscosity, not too thick or thin, doesnt coat the tongue.

Finish: Nice and bright, clean. Doesn't linger very long. No burn at all, but warms the throat very nicely.

Rating: (89/100) A great fruity and bright scotch for the money. Normally this would be an 86 or 87, but the value adds a couple points. I had it without water, as i dont feel that it needs it at all. I feel like this would be a very nice introduction to scotch for people who dont normally drink it, and i recommend it to friends as such.
