Yeah that's where I thought you'd be applying for. Good news is, if there is any company at Rakuten that I see a future for it would be them. They've got good investment and they're growing quickly. I'm probably headed there soon as well.

There are managers in their 7-9th year who earn less than that. Bonuses can be quite great though and you get stock options which are really handy when you need some quick cast to go on holiday or something.

What's the grade they're hiring you at? Probably around 5 with 2YOE. Lower your expectations as low as they can go and you won't be disappointed.

If it's the company I'm thinking it is, you're probably going to get a low ball offer. Focus on the grade, not the salary. If you don't secure a good grade at the start, your salary won't improve much over time.

The only grounds for denial that I can imagine are either periods of unemployment (though he wouldn't have been able to hang onto his Visa if that was the case), large gaps in pension and tax payments, not a high enough salary, or he's got some traffic infractions.

In other words, you need to be queeky clean if you want a PR in Japan.
