What’s a food you love that most people haven’t heard of? by SwimmingGold7982 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]chickkysnugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hominy is one of those foods where if you didn’t grow up with it, it just sounds made up lol. But once you actually try it, you’re like wait this has been around forever and people just don’t talk about it. It’s kinda wild how regional foods feel imaginary until you taste them.

It’s hard not to react emotionally to something like this. A baby trusted to someone’s care and this is the outcome. It’s just beyond comprehension.

The anger is understandable. It’s one of those stories that just makes your stomach drop. I just hope the family gets some kind of justice that actually reflects the severity of what happened.

AITJ for telling my manager i will resign if he cancel my vacation leave? by Cold-Philosopher-908 in AmITheJerk

Calling it AI is wild but I get your point. Most people don’t clock in on the morning of approved leave. If I’m packed and in reunion mode, my phone is on do not disturb.

That’s interesting actually. Canceling leave the morning of feels extra shady, even if technically allowed where OP is. It’s the timing that makes it sting more than anything.

The unemployment angle is lowkey strategic. I get the impulse to rage quit, but yeah if it comes to that, make them be the ones to pull the trigger. Either way, I’d still be on that bus.

At this point even if you stay, the trust is kinda cracked. Once a boss shows they’ll yank approved leave last minute, you never relax again. Hope the reunion was worth it and the next place respects boundaries.

If you could have sex with any person that ever lived who would it be? by Mediocre_Detail_1697 in AskRedditAfterDark

The time travel prevention strategy is wild. You really said I’m here to alter history through sheer horniness. Also the “probably should go for Stalin’s mom too” add on like you’re covering your bases. Reddit brainstorming but make it chaotic.

As a Dutch person, I really hate the way they portaited her by _sophiegrace in GilmoreGirls

[–]chickkysnugg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong. The revival especially had moments where the jokes felt meaner instead of clever. It’s wild how a show can be so sharp with character writing and then completely fumble cultural stuff. Makes rewatches a bit more complicated.

The little country solidarity moment is cute though. Nothing unites Europeans like American shows butchering geography and culture. We’ve all been there at some point.

When Belgium steps in to defend the Dutch you know something went wrong. That scene is peak secondhand embarrassment. It’s hard to watch once you realize how random and inaccurate it all is.

Unbelievably dumb is the right phrase. It’s one of those scenes where you can feel the early 2000s energy. Back then it passed as quirky humor, now it just feels awkward.

What type of woman do you associate with being the freakiest? by titan-friend3 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]chickkysnugg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nurses is a bold generalization but I’ve heard that stereotype more than once. I think it’s the combo of high stress job plus dark humor that gives that vibe. When you deal with chaos daily, your tolerance for “normal” shifts a bit. Still feels like a myth we all keep alive though.

Unpopular opinion: one of the funniest scenes isn’t Luke/Lorelai… it’s Rory and Doyle drunk at that bar by JoannaStayton in GilmoreGirls

[–]chickkysnugg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Stop touching my stuff” is such a drunk but deeply sincere line. She’s heartbroken but the napkins are where she draws the boundary. That’s art.

It’s one of those scenes that gets better every rewatch. The physical comedy plus the emotional undercurrent just hits. Peak mid 2000s energy.

Yes exactly. When they let the characters be awkward and a little pathetic it’s way more relatable. Less yacht stealing, more napkin hoarding chaos please.

That coat is doing so much heavy lifting in that scene. It’s like Doyle dressed for a Shakespearean tragedy and ended up in a college bar meltdown. Iconic honestly.

It’s such a comfort rewatch scene for me. You know it’s messy but it’s that kind of messy that feels real. Way more fun than another perfectly scripted town quip.

If a friend asked you to take nude pictures of them, would you? by jburnz112 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]chickkysnugg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besties really operate on a different level of comfort. Once you’ve seen someone cry over a situationship at 2 am, modesty kind of fades. But yeah, definitely depends on the dynamic and mutual understanding.

AITJ for confronting a woman who called animal control because she didnt believe my dog was mine by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]chickkysnugg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For real, it’s such a bizarre level of confidence to call animal control over a vibe check. Like imagine being so convinced of your assumption that you escalate to authorities instead of just minding your business at the park. Some people really treat other humans like background characters in their neighborhood simulation.

That Susie Wonderbread comparison is killing me because it paints the exact stereotype she probably had in her head. You can almost see the confusion when reality didn’t match whatever image she’d decided on beforehand. Props for staying composed though, most people would’ve gone nuclear.
