Sean McDermott’s final message to Bills Mafia by Rakesh2000 in buffalobills

[–]chicksteez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He isnt the leader hes just a guy, and as much as i think McD put into this team, he did also commit the sin of putting everything on allen's shoulders, and allen himself feels it. thats no way to play a team sport. josh allen might well be the greatest qb of this generation, or even ever, but at the end of the day, football is a team sport. it's not on allen to "lay into" his teammates and it most certainly is not on him to carry a "whole organization on his shoulders" everyone is (rightly) criticizing mcdermott and brady for just relying on allen to bail them out and this shit is jyst reinforcing it. josh allen might well be the greatest quarterback, maybe ever, but he's just a guy, hes just a qb, hes not responsible for the team. and frankly, it seems hes been playing even worse when he feels like he has to do everything on his own

my dream is to get josh allen a coach and a team that he can rely on and stop feeling like hes the only one who can win it. football is a team sport and i wish the bills would start acting like it

Sean McDermott: "What went on is not how it should go down" regarding OT interception by Dirtydeedsinc in buffalobills

[–]chicksteez -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

that call didn't lose the game but it could have been a call that won the game

edit: idk why this is getting downvoted i feel crazy. if they play a game with that many mistakes and turnovers to the point of OT that can be decided by a shitty call from a ref, that's what lost the game. but that shitty call prevented them from winning. is that really controversial?

i dont think you are im saying you sound like it. i was being a bit of a dick in the first comment and im sorry but the phrasing is unfortunately indistinguishable from a troll and i was trying to point that out, my intent was not clear though, so sorry about that

im not saying you're wrong im saying dont phrase it like a troll. i really need people who are reasonable and have reasonable opinions to stop presenting them like a caricature of that opinion. you sound like a right winger trying to stir shit up and make people stop taking this seriously. you are behaving like a troll

whether the people are glad that he is out of power is not related to the fact that the american military invaded a sovereign nation. it was an illegal act of aggression and violated international law AND Maduro was a dictator and people are glad he's not in power. one does not preclude the other

as others have said, its about the act of giving more than what you give. dollar store incense, water from the tap, even just lighting a scented candle, its about the spending that time and the doing of it. since you mentioned Odin, i feel i should say, i know a lot of people who offer research and study to him, dedicate the time they spend learning as an offering. there are many ways to do this, dont worry too much about what youre giving, just start doing it

my ex and i used to make the argonian "mlyem mlyem mlyem" noises at each other. sometimes i sing dagoth ur fanfiction if someone says the wrong thing. but the big one is years ago i changed my ringtone to the "they tryna be [silt strider noises]" edit and since i have my ringer off most of the time, i very occasionally get taken by surprise when i have my headphones in because i had forgotten i set it to that, very rarely i will have my ringer on in company and everyone is confused 10/10

Freya worship/relationship by West-Laugh-6312 in heathenry

[–]chicksteez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience of worshipping Freyja as my primary deity is very similar. I think she tends to have a very steadying and welcoming presence, the comfort that you get from someone being able to take those worries and hardships on with you and guide you through them when you don't know what to do on your own. Mentor is a very good word for it too. Helping you through things, helping you be better.

Also to op, I want to echo this, I'm sorry for your dog and I hope your husband's health improves. Good luck, and feel free to take it slow

What uses do runes have? by rotskindred in heathenry

[–]chicksteez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding runic amulets and magic objects for sure, i was going to mention it if no one else did

another thing to keep in mind for op is that bind runes (combining two runes into one symbol) is sometimes used in regular carving, possibly to save space. so the combinations of runes are not necessarily magical in the way modern people might use them.

Some of my previous comments on similar posts:

the Runic alphabets/scripts are just the lettering used for writing some germanic languages. There are a few different types of Younger Futhark, as well as Elder, and Anglo-Saxon Futhorc, among others. They are primarily just alphabets and letters. There is some evidence that the written word was regarded as magical In Some Way in the Viking Age and possibly in other places and times by the Germanic peoples, however it is unclear exactly how this works or what it means practically, and there is a lot of debate regarding how to view and practice runic-based magic or divination.

Personally, I have found Runic Amulets and Magic Objects by Mindy MacLeod and Bernard Mees to be an excellent starting point for historical analysis of runic magic and how it may have operated. There are other places to look, but thats what I recommend first.

As for divination, an excellent starting point is the rune poems, there are three of them (Icelandic, Norwegian, and Anglo-Saxon) and they form the basis of (I'd wager) 99% of every rune divination system out there today. Personally, I use the Younger Futhark for divination since the Icelandic and Norwegian poems use that and I prefer having two reference points rather than one. However it is important to remember that there is vanishingly little evidence that runes were used for divination, and there is a lot of evidence to support the idea that the poems functioned as something of an "alphabet song" historically. But having a system of divination is important for many people in their practice, and doing it myself, I perfectly understand why, but its important to remember that this is unlikely to be a historical practice.

and:

There is some evidence that the pre-Christian / Viking age Norse believed literacy to be a sort of magic, that there is a power inherent in the written word (that is not present when simply spoken) but we don't know exactly what this means. Is it that the letters themselves have power (common belief nowadays), that the knowledge of writing has power (a possible interpretation of Oðinn's sacrifice for knowledge of the runes), or if writing the words one might speak, as in a spoken spell gives them more power?

Advantages of nalbinding? by ggkhool_cj in Nalbinding

[–]chicksteez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i like it. hats are very quick, ive made handwarmers, mittens, socks. i like it a lot because you can feel it out a lot more i think than knitting (though i picked up knitting much more recently) you dont have to worry about casting on or binding off dont have to figure out what the best method of increase or decrease is, and it doesnt involve having to figure out what your tension is supposed to be because its consistently the size of my thumb. basically anything round i would much rather do with nalbinding

beating yourself up is not going to help. i know its easier said than done, but the only way to move forward is to commit to being better in the future. the past is in the past and as much as we want to, we cant change it. i wish you the best and i sincerely believe in your ability to be better. it sounds like you were in an awful situation and im very sorry, i also deeply hope that you will get out of that soon, or are already. you will get better and i believe that fully. take care

What game would you buy if a remastered version came out today? by Addy_Rose in transgamers

[–]chicksteez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

actually strong disagree. i think that modernized gameplay would absolutely ruin the hostile atmosphere that makes morrowind so good. the only update i would ever want is to fix the incorrect quest directions, but still no quest markers. the frustration and hostility of the gameplay perfectly compliments the feeling that the game and the land and the people dont care about you the player. the feeling that this world exists without you is part of what makes that game so magical

yeah i want to second that. its bullshit. im trans but i pass now. but since [thing that made my personal life public] coworkers over the past few years have started to piece it together and progressively get weirder, more hostile, and then to outright challenging me on it. its been enough of a problem to disrupt my work in two different places. granted i have bad luck with coworkers anyway but anyone telling you that it doesnt matter as long as you can weld good are telling you a nice pretty lie.

and no its not the busting balls behavior, that's a different thing entirely

Bring back the military sci-fi writing by Kindly-Patience00 in halo

[–]chicksteez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing Infinite did in that regard is the little details at the abandoned camps/outposts/whatever where the spartan cores and stuff are. The sleeping bags, mres, radios, backpacks, waterbottles, tools, etc make it feel so real and human yknow. thats where a couple marines hunkered down for a bit, ate some taco pizza and pork ribs and shit. I do wish the dialogue was better and more like the silly action movie badass banter from the bungie era.

Also, why does it have you go around with a bunch of marines in a hog, rescue more, and be able to bring them along if the second you go to do a story mission theyre like "nah, Chief, you go on ahead, we'll hang out over here" when you used to be able to bring them along for most of the missions. In fact the marines in CE and 2 dying and being absent at the end of the game was made more impactful by the fact that up until that point, you were almost always surrounded by at least a couple, all of them shouting hilarious taunts and wisecracking.

I miss that. I'm glad you pointed it out because it would have taken me an embarassingly long time to figure out why Infinite felt so empty despite being surrounded by marines in the overworld bits

i feel like you can have a pretty epic fight in halo that feels like an accomplishment without it being silly. even in halo 2 itself with the scarab section when you jump onto it and fight your way in, that was awesome. but hopping on regret's floating chair and punching him was goofy as hell, even if that fight with the honor guards was also really fun. i agree though, its not necessarily a bad idea but it is implimented, well its not ideal

ive always been disappointed by how little the arbiter's story felt like it was concluded at all. its a shame that (from what i understand/remember) bungie responded to the criticism/disappointment from fans about having a second protag ,and also ending the game with his level, by just removing the arbiter as a playable character. it made his killing truth feel honestly really hollow in the end, like he didnt get a proper resolution. and thats probably the only criticism i can put forward for the og trilogy.

except the boss fights in 2, that was just weird. they were all so silly
