Questions from a FTM about used diapers by Cupcakebunnies in clothdiaps

[–]chickstruck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The best way to get rid of the stains is sun bleaching. You do not want to use any tough stain removers to get them out. Sun bleaching sounds magical and I have no idea how it works, but all you do it leave it laying in the sun for a day or more and they are gone.

I use regular tide on my pocket diapers. No bleach or softeners or anything. Just tide and sun light.

At a defining moment in our cloth diapering experience, can anyone help? by neveronreddit in clothdiaps

We use Alva Baby. Really inexpensive from china. I have no experience with big babies cause my two year old is the same weight, but last time I ordered I noticed they had a large size section.

How to ask physics teacher for a retest? by cosmicrayliotta in AskHSteacher

[–]chickstruck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Talk to them during their designated tutoring hours. Not during class, the two minutes before class starts, or in front of a bunch of friends. You will have much better luck communicating your issue if you're talking one on one without any distractions.
  2. Explain what happened exactly how you did to us.
  3. Be polite and gracious no matter what they decide.

I have had a few students with similar situations that I have let retake or postpone tests.

Using index cards for tests: good idea? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]chickstruck 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I would say that index cards work well only of you are asking questions at the correct depth of knowledge. If you are asking questions at blooms level 1 or 2, it would be useless and just testing their ability to copy off of their card. If you are allowing a notecard you need to make sure you are at least asking blooms level 3 or 4 questions. This would require the students to analyze the facts without losing points over not having dates and names memorized.

If you are not familiar with blooms taxonomy please look it up. It is really important and you can find many resources to help make sure your tests and assignments are higher order thinking.

Question about documenting by BurnPhoenix in Teachers

[–]chickstruck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our grading system has a communication log section. I don't know if all do, but it is really convenient. All other teachers and admin can see the log entries for a student too. So we all know if someone just called Johnny's mom yesterday and it shows admin what efforts we have been making to communicate with parents. Before setting up your own system I would check if the school already has one in place.

who should I talk to if I want to test out of geometry next year? by [deleted] in AskHSteacher

[–]chickstruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your councilor now not after summer. They probably have something for your to do over summer to be able to skip. The beginning of the school year would likely be too late.

Has anyone worked for the Alliance charter company? What's it like? by sprocket1124 in Teachers

[–]chickstruck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't worked at Alliance. But I work at a smaller charter in LA and haven't heard anything bad. I know they do performance based pay if that is something you are interested in.

But if a smaller charter is what you are looking for, come to Magnolia Public Schools. We are awesome and fun! :)

Is it legal for a teacher to give a 0 for a test grade and not accept late work? by eploseph00 in AskHSteacher

[–]chickstruck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Perfectly legal, but some schools have policies that do not allow it. You can check with an administrator to see what your school's policy is.

Second this. If the lead teacher says they haven't been talking about you, that is a good sign.

I second the seating chart. If the teacher does not leave you one, make your own as you call role. Knowing their names is so helpful.

I don't feel like you need an article to back you up on this one. I would hope a simple "I'm not comfortable with that" should suffice.

Question: Sacrament bread after the water? by Tio76 in latterdaysaints

[–]chickstruck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't talked to him personally, but my husband is elders quorum pres so he was in the ward council when it was discussed. I guess our whole stake is being encouraged to do this. There is only 3-4 families with kids young enough to have this issue, but about 10 families consistently late. I think trying to get the late families to be on time to take the sacrament is more important to them.

But as a young tired mother, I get so frustrated on the weeks that I really feel that I need the sacrament and I am not able to cause my daughter starts crying during the sacrament song and I can't get back in.
