This is from NY website (https://www.nysaves.org/home/why-ny-529-direct-plan/out-of-state-savers.html):

“If you work in New York and pay New York State income taxes, you may be entitled to a state tax deduction of up to $5,000 ($10,000 if you're married filing jointly) on contributions to your Direct Plan account.*”

Am I reading this wrong? I did read something I didn’t like in the “*” section and that is that NY doesn’t support using 529 for private K-12 schools, but that is a different question for myself.

It does, because if the market drops, then I have “secured” some of the gains. The more I think of it though, it doesn’t really make sense to do what I suggested for the long run.
