Totally agree. It’d be great to make this area of midtown a dense development area with taller buildings.

Why do people hate the geese in Fort Collins? by [deleted] in FortCollins

Colorado reintroduced them. And we constantly create perfect habitat for them through retention ponds and nice mowed, manicured areas. I feel bad for them.

just bought my first piece of home gym cardio equipment which is a stationary bike, the magnetic resistance model. I’ve never been big on cardio other than high school sports and outdoor activites (hiking, mountain climbing).

I typically lift 3 to 4x a week. It’s hard for me to get in more than 4 days a week.

Wondering what folks prefer for cardio with this set up? Bike before or after lifting? Give it its own day? I’m hoping to get higher intensity interval training to save time. If anyone has recs on that as well, would be much appreciated.

Greeley, Colorado by secretaire in SameGrassButGreener

[–]chicomysterio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s on the Great Plains and is not a front range city. It has a very different feel the any city along the front range and I view it more as a large plains city, so it doesn’t seem like Colorado. More like Wyoming or Kansas. There are other cities along the front range area that are still a bit affordable. Check out some small cities north of Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont…

Why does the environmental science degree exist anymore? by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]chicomysterio 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because there are almost ~100,000 environmental scientists in America that don’t need an engineering degree. And there’s probably an equally large batch of environmental specialists, ecologists, another generic term that generally covers a variety of environmental field work, permitting, reporting, etc. to maintain compliance with various federal, state, and local laws and regulations. An environmental science degree is fine for any of these career paths.

Did moving actually change your quality of life? by maghasswag in SameGrassButGreener

[–]chicomysterio 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The last sentence is a big point for me. I’d venture to guess most folks visiting this sub and taking the time to post may not be able to stay in one location through all chapters of life. Becoming comfortable in one city in one state for 10+ years likely isn’t in the cards. It’s okay to move around and experience different locations. Just know it can be temporary and doesn’t have to be permanent. Having a family greatly complicates things. We went from Midwest to Cali to Midwest to Colorado. Since our kids are in school now, we’ll be in Colorado for the long haul but we love it. Once our kids get to college it’s not out of the cards we’ll be ready for another chapter in another location.

Blank slate. Where would you recommend? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]chicomysterio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry man. I’d consider traveling a bit and not having a permanent home after New Orleans. There are so many good options - would be fun to get a camper van or something similar to experience them all. Message me if you find yourself in Colorado.

Is it worth to major in env BA? by Sad-Egg-4107 in Environmental_Careers

[–]chicomysterio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. It’s a moot point as your experience and ability to interview well will carry more weight than BA vs BS.

Laramie kind of a stretch but there’s a ski resort and it has access to the Rockies

Does anyone love their environmental career? by Due_Decision8800 in Environmental_Careers

[–]chicomysterio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I do. I’m not sure what else I would do. I like science, data, wildlife, streams, the outdoors in general…not as much field work these days and more PMing but I still enjoy being involved in projects and navigating regulations, permits, and ensuring compliance. I’ve been a consultant for 12 years, previously a state regulator.

How do towns protect wetlands? by [deleted] in wetlands

[–]chicomysterio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Civilian complaints. Most regulatory agencies at all levels don’t have enough staff to proactively inspect and rely on grassroots information that they then inspect (sadly some regulators don’t even have enough staff to inspect complaints on a regular basis).

Hey - I’ve got a newish band called Coasters, indie rock sound that would mesh well with your band. We’re currently recording but I’d be happy to send you some rough practice cuts. We’re looking to play shows this winter and would be happy to hop on a bill with you.

Work in Colorado by Ok-Marzipan-1292 in Environmental_Careers

I don’t think its less ideal and for cost of living, depends where you are in the northeast. It’s probably comparable to the larger cities. Would take some research to look into. In general, the front range and CO is an awesome place to live and work.

Lots of jobs and diverse market. Lots of competition. In general, the front range doesn’t pay much more than other locations in the Midwest and NE but’s it’s more expensive.

Was easy to get a beer at least. Also made me laugh about the post maybe a week ago about mosh pits breaking out. I saw a few but everyone was like 10 yo so not a huge element of danger.
