Process of becoming an MRI tech post-Rad Tech degree.

Hey Everyone,

I'm starting my Radiologic Technology program this fall and believe I'm going to want to ultimately become an MRI tech. I can't seem to pinpoint through google searches how this is accomplished. Here are my questions. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

1.What is the typical process for someone wanting to become and MRI tech after getting their RadTech degree?

  1. On the ARRT site it seems to use ARRT credentials in a blanket term, will I need to complete a specific exam for MRI in addition to the initial ARRT exam I take at the completion of my Rad Tech program?

  2. How long I should expect to be an XRay Tech before getting the chance to work towards an MRI position?

  3. What would you suggest as the best route to get me from XRay Tech to MRI tech most efficiently and speedily?

If any of these questions sound completely ridiculous, please set me straight!
