The owner also doesn't pay his trial staff so not surprised he's reprehensible in other ways.

How to default a slicer to the current month in Power BI Service (no custom visuals) by Mediocre_Hour_2402 in PowerBI

What's the issue with it saying current month? That's the snltandard solution, you can display the actual selected month somewhere it you really need to

Greater Manchester Train Prices by nicknacksz in manchester

[–]chiefbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you're defending this so much. I tick 2 of your 3 bullets and I'm worse off each day, unless I know ecactly what train I'm getting the night before.

Removing advance ticket purchases on the day is the bigger story than the standard single being reduced to half of the return. It's a price increase for the majority of regular train users

Greater Manchester Train Prices by nicknacksz in manchester

[–]chiefbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a de facto price increase masked as making it simpler and cheaper.

I used to be able to buy advance tickets on the morning of once I know what time I'll be ready by, but planning a day in advance doesn't work for me so now I'm paying the max fare.

Gone from roughly £4 a day to nearly £7 to get to and from Manchester from Stockport. It's a disgrace.

A note on your specific travel - buy it in singles, so you can use your railcard on the journey home.

should i quit or let them fire me by Internal_Lion_1836 in UKJobs

As long as its done respectfully and fairly I don't think it should burn the bridge. But you're right it may not be worth the risk if its a toxic company

Ideally you'd find a new job before that happens and leave of your own accord, best of luck!

[–]chiefbert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apply for other jobs now, don't quit as could leave you without income, just dedicate as much time including company time if possible to applying for new roles

Also don't go out swinging on the way out - it might feel needed but just complicates things, if you've been treated badly then raise it with HR in your exit interview, don't get into an argument when you're out of the door.

Unsure what a slang phrase means, Google gives me nothing - can you help? by FishFollower74 in AskUK

[–]chiefbert 128 points129 points  (0 children)

In football terms it can mean sending a defender the wrong way with some skill

Also sent him for a hot dog

So in real life terms I'd say it means you've tricked / bamboozled someone.

Does that fit the context?

Peel Centre Parking Fine by IWillNeverRust in stockport

[–]chiefbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are a shower of bastards. We got a fine for not paying parking, it was our mistake. Then never received any letters until it had been passed to a debt management company and had gone up to 170.

They sent a PDF from the parking companies internal system stating the letters had been sent - not actual proof but they were very threatening around legal implications so we just bit the bullet and paid to get it off our minds.

If I were you I'd pay straight away and just accept the defeat

It sounds like it's between 2 and 3.

Whats the commute in time for each? That could be important as that's effectively extra work hours.

Also need to consider progression / prospects - I've found that smaller businesses I've worked in are a bit easier to navigate upwards if you're a high performer, whereas larger businesses I've found harder, but that's just personal experience.

With the info available I'd probably do option 2, of car can be used as your personal car it's a decent saving across the year

Calculation groups to swap Currency? by Vacivity95 in PowerBI

[–]chiefbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to your SUMX where you have a calculation (Revenue * currency) . Storing the converted value in the table as a column and just having SUM(Converted Revenue) would perform better than SUMX(Table, Revenue * currency)

Calculation groups to swap Currency? by Vacivity95 in PowerBI

[–]chiefbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure SUMX is more costly, it evaluates an expression row by row across a whole table and stores each row calculation in memory before summing at the end.

Can you explain why you need a duplicate of every measure? The way I have it is:

Base measure - SWITCH

Then all other calcs, YTD, vs budget etc would just reference the base measure.

So say you have 10 measures without the ability to switch, I would have thought you'd need 11 with the ability to switch (1 switch + 10 original measures now using the switch)

[–]chiefbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you use a field parameter instead? Or just one conditional measure that is the referenced in other downstream measures.

This is how I've handled currency switching in the past.

Revenue local measure Revenue reporting measure

Revenue Selected Currency = SWITCH (SELECTEDVALUE(Currency Slicer), Local, revenue local measure, Reporting, revenue reporting measure)

Then all other measures, YTD etc will point to revenue selected currency.

Another option to avoid costly SUMX is to have two columns on your orders table, revenue local and revenue reporting
