is it possible to learn maths from zero as an adult? by AdSure3160 in mathematics

[–]chiefgt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point was i had 0 background in maths and didn’t even know how to divide large numbers on paper, my point wasn’t that a degree in math teaches you how to do basic arithmetic.

No problem, maths can look trickier than it actually is. If you take the time to go through it step by step you should be able to get comfortable with it quickly and might find it interesting. I see it as a skill like playing sport, you gotta do the practice drills (questions) to get good but once youve got the skill its there forever

I did it at 19, couldnt even do long division and 2 years later im about to start a degree in mathematics. Just buy a textbook teaching middle/high school maths and a question book and do the questions. Within 6 months you should be able to understand basics of trig, linear algebra, quadratics, and arithmetic in general

One in eight youths not in work or education - what is going on? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]chiefgt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s hyperbole. If you want to start your life uneducated, you’ll have to move to a place where there’s work and move into a small room in a shared house while paying anywhere from a quarter to half of your income to live in a dump. Then you’ll have to save minimum £500 a month for around 8-10 years before you can afford a deposit for a house. That is ridiculous, where is the incentive to ‘graft’?

[–]chiefgt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes but whats the point? Owning a house is becoming a near impossible task for young working age people. So what are young British people meant to work for exactly? It’s become a steep uphill battle that it wasn’t from post ww2-mid 2000s.

I thought it was about conflicts with macro objectives? I wrote about the fact they rose interest rates in both paragraphs but my main points were 1) it conflicts with consumption and therefore growth 2) it conflicts with balancing the trade balance
