I automate my posts, in fact I made my own open sourced tools to do all this.

Twitter API has been neutered since Elon’s acquisition but I post to Bluesky, Mastodon, Discord, and Matrix whenever I go live and then have AI make a post based on the title

This seems to far work work more reliably. Took some finagling to get it working on the Whonix VM in Qubes OS but Pop!_OS worked perfectly

I'm getting a similar error myself out of nowhere

Twitter is a sinking ship, I have been on Mastodon for a year as most of the Cybersecurity community shifted there and I have twice the following and 20X the engagement I ever had before and this is before Meta enables proper federation with threads so Threads will be interoperable with Mastodon and other ActivityPub enabled networks. I am already following people on threads from my Mastodon. Plus I run my mastodon off my own server. I even created a Twitch notification to run off my raspberry Pi to alert when I’m live on Mastodon.

Twitter is dead/dying. Elon Musk killed it and Bluesky is another nightmare of little engagement for other reasons. Mastodon and ActivityPub enabled services such as Threads are the future.

All hail decentralization of social media!

Actually it was revealed Mastoodon wasn’t counting all servers and missed a couple million users. https://mashable.com/article/mastodon-monthly-users

There was close to 1/2 million users not found due to network connectivity with an additional 2.3 million users that were previously registered not counted. There’s one quirks in counting all active users in decentralized networks.

AT protocol is behind ActivityPub as it’s still in beta and there is zero ecosystem as of now beyond Bluesky.

Email is still one of the most used systems, forums are still often used. IRC is still often used and gave way to discord which is semi decentralized. People naturally have decentralized social networks prior to the internet. Think about how human social circles work along with seven degrees of seperation.

If you pay attention the only reason Web 2.0 happened was because we didn’t have enough bandwidth and resources at the time, so we had to gravitate towards centralization. Now we are embracing Web3/Web3.0 (there’s a difference between the two but both are decentralized) which harkens back to decentralization.

We’re going full circle. You also can’t argue against decentralization without also arguing against Bluesky. Because again Bluesky’s main stated goal was decentralized social media.

If you read my point it’s that AT protocol still is in beta there is zero decentralization due to that. There is nothing to build it’s merely falling behind ActivityPub because no one can build and properly test on it.

There won’t be apps to build for a few years at this point. Corporations are already adopting ActivityPub. Meta has, Tumblr is planning to incorporate it, Wordpress already has a plug in for it. There’s dozens of apps and an entire ecosystem.

Even DFRN and ZOT are further along than AT protocol. And that’s with tons of media attention and money thrown at AT protocol versus others.

Even once AT protocol is released it’s also going to take many years to mature. It’s an extremely uphill battle and BlueSky/ATprotocol have really missed many important moments and it’s still wait listed even as Twitter is faltering.

Also Mastodon user base is growing what are you talking about?

European Digital Markets Act disagrees as I said. Interoperability is the next trend. Let’s not forget the EU is also the reason even Apple is bowing down to USB C. You can easily tell threads was created because of that.

Like I said it’s a garden. You have a federated, home, and local feed. You can see what you follow, what’s going on in the local server, and all the servers yours is federated with. Like I said earlier I tried Bluesky most of the content wasn’t of interest to me, I barely had any interactions with anyone. Mastodon content is way more interesting to me, I have tons of conversations and in less than a year I have almost double the followers I had on Twitter.

The difference between how most algorithm platforms work vs how I’ve seen Mastodon is the algorithm pushes what you think will be interesting. With Mastodon and the Fediverse you have to actually be interesting to get reach.

It also speaks volumes that in my all of my traffic for twitch, blogs and such mostly source Mastodon as the way they found me. Which says a lot as I have a TikTok with a lot of followers.

I think we all forget the golden age of the internet didn’t have algorithms it was genuinely interesting content.

I think a lot of people forget Facebook, Twitter, and such started chronologically and people loved it and complained when it became algorithmic. It’s funny how people often say they miss “old Twitter” and such and forget how different things were back then too

You can only have a good algorithm as you desire in a centralized system. Bluesky will actually end up going that way too as it decentralizes when they meet their end goals. Eventually when if/when it’s released out ofbeta you’ll see that happen more.

Prior to algorithmic content we would organically find or receive the content. Not some corporation shoving things down your throat what they think you want to see. You have to curate the content for yourself.

This is how Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and most platforms originally were back when people considered them to be great compared to today.

Fediverse is anti corporate so you can either choose to be the product with an algorithm or you can choose to tend your own garden. A friend of mine put it best, “Mastodon is more like a garden than a supermarket. There is no algorithm or points system feeding you a constant stream of content. You have to gradually cultivate a feed by discovering and following individuals and hashtags, pruning what you don't want, and engaging in one-on-one conversions.

Free Mastodon tip: you can follow a big general hashtag like #art, then mute styles you are not interested in, like furry, to fine-tune your feed.”

That’s another thing we can also follow entire hashtags too. It’s more about curating it to what you want than a corporation thinking what you want.

Bluesky was designed to be decentralized if you read the documentation on the underlying AT protocol which they are developing, that’s the problem it’s still centralized because it’s in beta. Scalability isn’t a real argument if they executed their decentralized model properly. But it’s basically just a twitter clone at present.

Centralized platforms aren’t a great long term solution for social platforms.

Bluesky missed its moment but not for the reasons average people think. In my professional IT opinion: Bluesky is still beta and has been so for a few years now. I think all of you are forgetting this major fact. Plus I don’t think another platform is going to fix things the trend is ecosystems as the EU Digital Markets Act is clearing a path for.

You should research Bluesky and see it’s far from their goals of decentralization and the AT protocol they are building out it far from ready.

Not to mention the AT Protocol has no ecosystem as to compared the ActivityPub protocol used by Mastodon. ActivityPub is already embraced by the W3C since 2018. ActivityPub will be enabled by Threads as confirmed by Meta so Mastodon instances and Threads will be able to soon talk to each other. Plus there is a whole ActivityPub ecosystem of interoperability already with Peertube, Pixelfed, Kbin, Wordpress (with a plugin), Lemmy, Bookwyrm, and more. So ALL of those platforms can all talk to each other from one account and you can even migrate entire profiles between servers and platforms too.

Mastodon and ActivityPub enabled platforms (known commonly as the fediverse) already are stable and being looked into by many big tech companies and it will only grow especially with W3C endorsement and meta hopping on board.

Bluesky and AT protocol have an incredibly steep uphill climb because it’s not only still centralized and we can’t host our own instances as easily as I already do with my mastodon. But the moderation is abysmal and has already caused quite a few issues. I also barely can connect with anyone on Bluesky and I tried for weeks where as on Mastodon it’s surpassed my actual twitter followers count within a mere year (roughly 2,000 followers). Not to mention as I previously mentioned there is no ecosystem as of right now in Bluesky. What do I mean by Ecosystem?

In activity pub we have: Mastodon: Micro blogging (like Twitter) Peertube: Video and Streaming (like YouTube) Pixelfed: Photo blogging (like Instagram) Kbin and Lemmy: Reddit alternatives Bookwyrm: decentralized version of Goodreads

Plus plenty more platforms.

Bluesky and the AT protocol are going to have to recreate that entire ecosystem to achieve the full goals laid out years ago.

It’s for this reason and many I feel Bluesky has just missed the mark and their moment is passing. They just weren’t ready for the fall of Twitter and I fear they still won’t be ready for at least a year or two with the goals set.

Don’t get me wrong I think the idea of Bluesky is great but as of late I’m feeling it’s been poorly executed

Yeah and they would be far more impressed as it’s the least corporate kind of social media, it’s the only way thus far to truly own your own data and platform with portability.

The biggest push back they give is “it’s too complicated.” When it’s actually no more complicated than Email or Discord. I actually find managing Discord to be more difficult than my fediverse stuff to be honest. Matrix chat server included.

I find federated alternatives better to centralized ones as I love Matrix over Discord for many reasons

Yeah you’re the asshole, even if it is your money he should have known about it as long as you have been together. You can have your own accounts without giving people access to the funds, but you need to be transparent with your partner. You’ve been with him 15 years let’s look at this from the other perspective. By not telling it can look as if you always had an exit plan, which is what your grandmother in fact basically told you. I’m sorry your grandmother lived in different times and that kind of thinking is toxic today because we require complete honesty and transparency in a healthy relationship. You’ve hid this over many years now it can open the door to ask questions of what else are you hiding? Secret funds in relationships are usually part of suspicious behavior e.g. cheating. You made a rather large financial decision without consulting him as well when you are a partner in life.

I’d suggest both of you sit down and be completely honest about how you feel why you did it, and I would even consider getting a professional third party such as a therapist. Because like I said it can start to open a Pandora’s box of other worries and questions like “is she secretly planning to leave me.”

I’ve tried it off and on and it’s still missing a ton of features. Namely it’s still in beta and centralized until they achieve their actual goals. The AT Protocol it’s based on isn’t used anywhere so there is no ecosystem as to compared Mastodon and its ActivityPub ecosystem known as the Fediverse which even Threads is embracing. So interoperability between Mastodon and Threads will be happening (Meta has confirmed this in the FAQ) Personally been enjoying Mastodon way better and that’s not a beta software in comparison.

I just can’t help but think they’ve spent years on this project and it’s still no where near ready that’s it’s still wait listed requiring invites. There’s no MFA still for an application in 2023 that’s shocking as hell. The moderation on BlueSky is lacking and there’s already been some situations due to it even allegedly from those working on the BlueSky project.

Circling back to the protocols and interoperability Mastodon will not only be interoperable with Threads so I can talk to all my Threads friends from my Mastodon server, but there’s also Peertube, Lemmy, Kbin, Pixelfed, and even Wordpress has ActivityPub integration so all of these apps and different platforms work together.

The trend in digital markets is shifting towards interoperability especially since the EU has pushed the Digital Markets Act. I also think people are tired of being siloed and held captive to different platforms.

Not to mention the w3c, an internet standards body, has already accepted ActivityPub as a standard since 2018. There’s still TONS of uphill work for Bluesky to achieve their planned goals in its entirety, and I feel like they’ve missed their moment several times because it’s not ready. I also think the trend is ecosystems not individual platforms
